"You're not retiring any time soon, are you?" It gets to me every time I hear that. It shows that no matter how many times Bond fails to return the gadgets in pristine order, he had grown fond of Q. Rest in peace, Desmond Llewelyn. We will always pay attention.
Yes desmond was a great Q and i especially liked the relationship he had with Pierce Brosnan. I loved how annoyed Q but still they cared about each other
I think some of it was also that Bond trusted Q with his life, he wasn't overly sure about his replacement who in the next film Bond initially refused to call Q
The very first time I heard that...it took SEVERAL minutes to STOP laughing! He did that line with TOTAL Perfection... Desmond Llewelyn WAS the jewel of the Bond Franchise, IMNSHO...
I never fully realized that Q was the only real constant throughout most of the bond films. I do miss the original Q more than ever now after watching these.
Anurag Gupta Agreed, John Cleese was pretty good. I strangely do like the new guy - even if I was pretty damn pissed in the last movie when his character allows their entire system to be compromised. When he first plugged in the computer I pretty much wanted to scream - That better not be directly into your "personal" systems!
***** Definetly, I really like the actor. Especially when he briefed Bond at the museum. That laptop scene really did piss me off as well. Q is supposed to be a minor character, not something that drives the plot to that extent. But whatever, hopefully he's good in the next one.
Technically Desmond Llewelyn was the second Q but the first to be addressed as such. He was played by a different actor in Dr. No, but the character was addressed by his actual name, Boothroyd.
+Anurag Gupta I agree with you. If they'd kept John Cleese for the newer films, I'd have been so happy. I mean, they kept Judi Dench, but not him? I can totally imagine Cleese and Craig working together, they'd have been such a great team.No offense to Whishaw, but he hasn't made much of an impact on me. Neither has the new Moneypenny(she and Craig have no chemistry). And I only like Fiennes as M because it's Fiennes as M. I guess it all depends on the next movie.
After the death of Desmond Llewelyn (1963-99) I always shed tears when I watch Q LITERALLY going into the ground in "The World Is Not Enough." :( It is harsh enough that this was his last film, but to have him be hit by a car in real life and then going under with a car onscreen.... :( Farewell Mr Llewelyn, you will be Dearly Missed. :(
Desmond Llewelyn's exit from the Bond series rightfully #1. Starred in 17 of the 19 Bond films that were made while he was alive. Ben Whishaw makes a good Q but nobody can ever fill Desmond's shoes. Rest in peace good Sir.
Douglas Roth I would think that born and raised in Scotland before moving to London, Bond would be Anglican rather than Roman Catholic, if he were to have any religious affiliation at all. But my personal pet peeve is the ubiquitous misrepresentation of the two zeros preceding 7 as the letter O it’s most irritating
At first I never really was into John Cleese as Q. But after a few years and revisiting I can see the wit he brought and the similarity to Desmond and I think he fit the role perfectly. I like the new Q as well, but of course Llewlyn will always be THE Q we know and love. I remember tearing up when I saw the memorial montage that was included in the World Is Not Enough VHS release.
Desmond Llewellyn was on screen for a total of 30 minutes total in all of the Bond movies. Yet he was one of the most beloved and recognizable actor from the entire series. He is missed. I wish they had kept John Cleese as his replacement. “R” always made you laugh.
While #2 is the funniest by far, I love how heartfelt #1 is. You've got these two professional associates that have been joking for years. If you look back, they almost never have serious conversations. But you can see the deep respect 007 has for Q, he's hurt by the idea of Q being there. Most brilliant part of that movie.
6:40 #2 I love how Bond isnt really paying attention to him but just decides to pick up his lunch and fiddle with it while he's talking. Ahh the best Q quote.
+JasminLeblanc I thought Mr. Cleese did a fine job in his roles he played, especially in Die Another Day. I'm sad they couldn't find a place for him in the new ones, but the young guy is "ok". I hate that he is like 12, but hopefully he'll literally grow into the role. Q has always been a father like figure, and now he's like a kid brother. On that note it would be nice to see Q in the field again, but working more alongside 007 to expand upon that brothers role. Make it seem like he needs protecting and right as Bond swoops in to save the day he uses a gadget to get out of it, with the only reason he waited was to see the look on Bond's face. I like the tone and mood in the new films, but I would like to see more humor interjected between Q and 007 again. Not forced, but just this roll with the punches humor they have always bantered in. I do very much miss that.
+JasminLeblanc I think the new, younger Q is more suited for the modern age. It's better to have a computer wizard to head the tech department than to have an old dude that invents weird gadgets. After all, we are not in the cold war era anymore.
I always liked the nearly sibling rivalry sort of relationship Q and 007 had. Q was always trying to get James to take things more seriously, and of course James never does. Like an annoying younger brother.
Missed a clip from (I think) Licence to Kill where Q gives Bond a cell phone Q - "Talk here, listen here" Bond - "So that's what I've been doing wrong all these years"
The Q's Lab scenes were always my very favourite parts of any Bond movie, because we got to see all the wonderful and imaginative gadgets Q came up with. The weirdest thing, it when you delve into spy history and find out how many of his gadgets are real and how crazy rea spy gadgets can be
Of course, he added humor in a film known for it's action. The Daniel Craig are more emotional drama with less humor, IMO, though the dramatic mood is great, nevertheless.
darthstarkiller1912 I can only hope they deviate from the intense emotional drama formula in later instalments. James Bond is meant to be James Bond, not Inspector Morse.
Never let them see you bleed - I don’t think Connery’s Bond ever bled. Wasn’t until L&LD that they actually showed Bond cut and bleed finally (Moores first Bond flick).
Q: "Not to worry, 007. I have a retirement plan. It involves playing an all-powerful alien in a TV series the Americans call Star Trek: The Next Generation. I always wanted to branch out a bit. Should be interesting, don't you think?" 007: "I don't think you'll be bored. But just be careful not to branch out too far, Q, or they might nickname you 'Twiggy'." Q: "That's not funny, 007."
Making the 7 a double 0 is a nice touch. Well done. And good choices. Dashes of Cleese, who is always great, but the vast majority goes to the true Q. Desmond Llewelyn. We miss you.
Bond: Forgive me Father, for I have sinned. Q: That's putting it mildly, 007. Meanwhile, in Mexico El Mariachi: Forgive me Father, for I have sinned. Steve Buscemi: No Shit!
Best Bond's, Sean Connery, Roger Moore , Pierce Brosnan . Best Moneypenny , Lois Maxwel, Best Q, Desmond Llewelyn, Best M, Judi Dench. Best Bond girl, Ursula Andrews.
TWINE was actually going to be his last movie any way, hence why the footage of him retiring exists. So the franchise would have continued the same regardless
I may not have agreed with loads of these (re: mixing up R and Q, and #3 with Timothy bloody Dalton), but, I will hands down agree on numbers 2 and 1. #1 is probably my favourite scene in cinema of all time.
+MeatballsMarlowe In the Connery era, Q was mostly just a nerdy colleague Bond was stuck working with. It wasn't later that he became the grumpy dad we all love.
I loved how annoyed Q but still they cared about each other
Yes. Adieu, Q...
He was the best
I think some of it was also that Bond trusted Q with his life, he wasn't overly sure about his replacement who in the next film Bond initially refused to call Q
That bit always gets to me I grew up wachting bond movies
"I think he's attempting reentry, sir" LMAO
Funniest line I heard! Lol
That's my favorite Q's line.
one of the best lines in the series for sure.
Well tell him to pull out!
The very first time I heard that...it took SEVERAL minutes to STOP laughing!
He did that line with TOTAL Perfection...
Desmond Llewelyn WAS the jewel of the Bond Franchise, IMNSHO...
#1 is perfect. That is the last time we ever see Desmond Llewelyn as Q.
"I think he's attempting re-entry sir" 🤣🤣That line would never pass today
DON"T TOUCH THAT...That's my Lunch
I never fully realized that Q was the only real constant throughout most of the bond films. I do miss the original Q more than ever now after watching these.
John Cleese is pretty funny as Q though. I dont really like the new one though. He's ok, I guess.
Anurag Gupta Agreed, John Cleese was pretty good. I strangely do like the new guy - even if I was pretty damn pissed in the last movie when his character allows their entire system to be compromised.

It is harsh enough that this was his last film, but to have him be hit by a car in real life and then going under with a car onscreen.... :(
Farewell Mr Llewelyn, you will be Dearly Missed. :(
RoninAquila The worst part is that despite that scene, he said he’s play Q for as long as he lived :(
Desmond Llewelyn's exit from the Bond series rightfully #1. Starred in 17 of the 19 Bond films that were made while he was alive. Ben Whishaw makes a good Q but nobody can ever fill Desmond's shoes. Rest in peace good Sir.
That's exactly why I'm glad they went with a completely different kind of Q, they knew trying to make him like Desmond would just never entirely work.
4:20 "I haven't time for that... later perhaps." Q you dirty man 😂
"He's well-suited for the job." LMFAO
I wish there was more witty jokes in movies nowadays.
Always have an escape plan
That one touches me the most😞💯
That’s my Rule #2! (Gibbs from NCIS has his rules, I have mine.)
"Really 007?"
"Q, what the hell are you doing here?!"
Lmao, that part always gets me.
"Ejector seat" and "attempting re-entry" are just classic Q lines lol
Desmond Llewelyn was, is, and always will be, my favourite Q.
Such a good actor...RIP Desmond...We Miss you!
That scene when q decends down from the pool table sad moment
"I think he's attempting re-entry sir!"
Bond: Forgive me father for I have sinned
Q: That's putting it mildly 007
Douglas Roth I would think that born and raised in Scotland before moving to London, Bond would be Anglican rather than Roman Catholic, if he were to have any religious affiliation at all. But my personal pet peeve is the ubiquitous misrepresentation of the two zeros preceding 7 as the letter O it’s most irritating
Moonraker is absolutely the best...I think he's attempting re-entry. Hilarious.
#3 "something we're working for the Americans, it's called a Ghetto Blaster" Lmao! Oh that Q :p
when I watched the movie I honestly thought he would say it was a "Boom-Box" before he said the line.
Daltons Face matchs that comment
Desmond Llewellyn was on screen for a total of 30 minutes total in all of the Bond movies. Yet he was one of the most beloved and recognizable actor from the entire series. He is missed. I wish they had kept John Cleese as his replacement. “R” always made you laugh.

"I think he's attempting reentry sir." *just dies laughing* "Grow up 007." Why? LOL! The Bond/Q scenes are the highlight of each movie.
6:40 #2 I love how Bond isnt really paying attention to him but just decides to pick up his lunch and fiddle with it while he's talking. Ahh the best Q quote.
That's because he thinks the sandwich ejected the chair.
Sir Desmond Lewellyn is the Q.
The one and only Q.
Irreplaceable.
1:11 - Q's lack of concern with his high tech equipment, "I'll just toss this anywhere because I hate working out in the field. I'm outta here". 🤨😏😂🤣
3:10 Two Q's.
James' nightmare xD
before i saw #1, i was thinking #2 should have the top spot. God bless that man :'(
watched all but really no.1 is the best quote ever..
I'm still rightfully pissed they didnt keep John Cleese as Q for the new Daniel Craig movies.
CANT BE CAMPY. GOTTA BE DARK SERIOUS AND BROODING.
+JasminLeblanc I thought Mr. Cleese did a fine job in his roles he played, especially in Die Another Day. I'm sad they couldn't find a place for him in the new ones, but the young guy is "ok". You've raised a point & answered it in one post there.
I'm...I'm not sure what movies you're watching, but that's not what Craig movies are. They're gritty, but that's about it for those labels.
JasminLeblanc Haven’t you heard..................we don’t really go in for that sort of thing anymore.
"DON'T TOUCH THAT... That's my lunch." Oh, for a moment there I thought it was some sort of cleverly disguised explosive.
Funny thing when the guy on the seat in scene#2 is ejected and nobody seems to even give a damn about that :D
DON'T TOUCH THAT...That's My Lunch
+JudasAngel666 no YOU DONT TOUCH THAT ITS MY LUNCH
In Q’s lab, something like that is just another part of the job!
I always liked the nearly sibling rivalry sort of relationship Q and 007 had. Q was always trying to get James to take things more seriously, and of course James never does. Like an annoying younger brother.
"Now pay attention 007..."
You know that whatever lines follow that one are going to be good
No. 1 was the best and only choice for top moment. Good call. RIP Desmond.
I always liked how they got serious with each other on #1. Makes me tear up everytime.
A memorable role!Always was crazy with 007 because he always destroyed the equipment!!!RIP Q.......
Missed a clip from (I think) Licence to Kill where Q gives Bond a cell phone
Q - "Talk here, listen here"
Bond - "So that's what I've been doing wrong all these years"
Tomorrow never dies
Thank you for making that one number one. Still chokes me up to see it.
The Q's Lab scenes were always my very favourite parts of any Bond movie, because we got to see all the wonderful and imaginative gadgets Q came up with. The weirdest thing, it when you delve into spy history and find out how many of his gadgets are real and how crazy rea spy gadgets can be
Demond Lewellyn added significantly to the 007 popularity...
Desmond Llewelyn > 2014!Paddington Bear
What a great man! But the last one though😭💕 the new q is doing a good job though I think!👍
Personally I think the ''Don't touch that..its my lunch'' should have been no. 1.
Never let them see you bleed - I don’t think Connery’s Bond ever bled. Wasn’t until L&LD that they actually showed Bond cut and bleed finally (Moores first Bond flick).
#9: Q ends up with more girls than 007 did over every film :D :D
I love how they test new weapon systems by firing missiles or other ammunition at short distances in rooms with other people working nearby.
To demonstrate how it will cause little collateral damage maybe?
007: How r u?
Q: Most unhappy thnx to u 007
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
" i never joke about my work 007"
A clasic :')
Number 8 always makes me crack up!
Although 9, you know Q, there are times where you should just lean back and enjoy........
Q: "Not to worry, 007. I have a retirement plan. It involves playing an all-powerful alien in a TV series the Americans call Star Trek: The Next Generation. I always wanted to branch out a bit. Should be interesting, don't you think?"
007: "I don't think you'll be bored. But just be careful not to branch out too far, Q, or they might nickname you 'Twiggy'."
Q: "That's not funny, 007."
I still think they missed a trick when Desmond retired by not offering the role to Patrick Stewart ;)
Never let them see you bleed..
Always have an escape plan..
Those are my Rules #1 and #2, respectively.
@2:19... that has to be the funniest james vs Q scene
he's the one character that never needed to be recast until his health started to fail him. almost 40 years of being Q.
Man made a career out of this role. He will be missed.
Making the 7 a double 0 is a nice touch. Well done. And good choices. Dashes of Cleese, who is always great, but the vast majority goes to the true Q. Desmond Llewelyn. We miss you.
Usually I do not agree with these lists but the Number One is the most perfect top of the list ever!
Rest in peace Mr Llewellyn. Q will always be you. Such a shame.
he is my all-time favorite role on the Bond movies.funny how always jabs with bond.
they are not the same since he passed.miss him.
007: Sorry about the leg - skiing?
Q: Hunting!
Sean Connery is the best bond ever
Bond: Forgive me Father, for I have sinned.
Q: That's putting it mildly, 007.
Meanwhile, in Mexico
El Mariachi: Forgive me Father, for I have sinned.
Steve Buscemi: No Shit!
#9 is one of my favorites.... "later perhaps". Q gets all the chicks.
Casting John Cleese as Q was a bit of studio brilliance.
Q just yeeting it into the bushes.
I love this Q! He's so funny 🤣
the 2e luch is perfect.. and the first is always the beste... RIP Q
Miss the british humorous quick in 007 series in Q explanations of the gadgets
Best Bond's, Sean Connery, Roger Moore , Pierce Brosnan . Best Moneypenny , Lois Maxwel,
Best Q, Desmond Llewelyn, Best M, Judi Dench. Best Bond girl, Ursula Andrews.
ursula andress doesn't do anything.
the best bond girls are eva green, diana rigg, and izabella scorupco (vesper, tracy, natalya).
I agree with everything except for the bond girls I think Eva Green was the best
Mustave Took You Time To Do This .. I Enjoyed It!!!
Tomorrow Never Dies: The remote control for the car was an excellent idea. Too bad it was used for such a shitty vehicle.
Very nice , the seventh place are 007.
Anyone else notice on number 14 he just throws away Q-lab tech, just like Bond does? must be a field agent thing...
Made me tear up again!
3:03 Pause it and tell me if that's not John Cleese.
So tragic that he died so soon after his last appearance. Will never be replaced.
Thanks for posting!!!
DONT TOUCH THAT! That is my lunch! Haha, hilarious
R.I.P. Q you were the best
I like the new q but Desmond is THE Q.
I cried tears when he said "ghetto blaster"
TWINE was actually going to be his last movie any way, hence why the footage of him retiring exists. So the franchise would have continued the same regardless
1:13 - 1:15 - What was that about how your equipment never gets returned Q? XD
I was counting down thinking "where's the one about the lunch?! where is it?!?!?" then it came second - and quite rightly :D
I love number 11. Just tosses the manual in front the shotguns lol.
Makes one long for the days when the Bond franchise had real sense of humor and charm. The Thug Bond era can't have none of that.
Anyone else notice that the 7 on the count down in the top left was titled 007?
This new Q can't hold a candle
who can?
Cleese did a decent job
6:30. Gettoblaster.
I may not have agreed with loads of these (re: mixing up R and Q, and #3 with Timothy bloody Dalton), but, I will hands down agree on numbers 2 and 1.
#1 is probably my favourite scene in cinema of all time.
#1. The Final. I know. The World is not enough(1990).
I wish you had used more clips from the Connery era and less John Cleese.
+MeatballsMarlowe In the Connery era, Q was mostly just a nerdy colleague Bond was stuck working with. It wasn't later that he became the grumpy dad we all love.
@@DarthRushy upload the Q scene from Thunderball. He was pissed at Bond
Haha, at number 7, the number changes to 007 in the corner, nice touch.
Wow, The World is not Enough must have been that memorable. lol.
I never joke about my work, 007.
3:08 Is there's really that much of a difference between "stocked" and "fully loaded"?
Sadly he died the same year " the world is not enough" was released
I remember I watched TWINE for few days and saw the news when I was at the school, I was really sad that time, even I was very young
😢😢😢I miss him so much😢😢😭
Desmond Llewelyn is a legend from being Q. RIP
#10 is my favourite :)
Who wants to have a ghettoblaster, too?
