FANTASTIC! Best Buy had this on sale for $699 and they had an Open Box - Excellent for $499. I think all someone did was just open the box, because it was still wrapped and packed PERFECT! I couldn't resist. I paired it with my 4 year old LG 65" C7 and WOW! It is not a large room, but felt I wanted the the wireless rear speakers just back behind my head. Best Buy had that kit for $150, so for $650 all in, I am in love! Incredible surround sound and I'm like a kid at Christmas when the soundbar display reads DOLBY ATMOS.

Granted this is my first quality TV sound bar setup so really can't compare to others or true satellites. Might throw the wireless rear set on to get more of a 7.1.2. The new model, S90QY looks nice and I think they added another Atmos speaker in the center. Both are on sale at really good price right now

To answer your question, I bought the Klipsch Surround 3s for my Cinema 600 and I have them set up behind the couch on Sanus stands made for Sonos surround speakers (if you look closely on the Klipsch website they actually use them for the product pictures) and I use them when watching a movie or listening to music. They add a lot of spaciousness to both. My system doesn’t really distort even at max volume, which I would never use for more than a couple minutes. I keep watching and so far nothing you review seems like it would actually be better than my current setup, even without Atmos. Thanks for all the reviews!

I’ve got a rats nest of surround wires along one wall of my living room wall. My wife has just given up. Witless surround add ons would be an upgrade I would make if some smarty pants speaker maker could come up with that for those of us with existing AVR setups. I just put the Samsung Q950A in our bedroom and the wireless rears are awesome, as is the entire system. If I didn’t already have an AVR system downstairs I’d consider buying a second one.

To your question of "How many have hooked up surround sound channel speakers ~around the room...". (Yes, I stayed 'til the end) When I had my house, we had a family room that I built in the basement with wire raceways built in to the walls for floor to ceiling access, so you never saw wires (way before wireless speakers). The family room was wired for 7.1 and the sound experience was fantastic. We later converted the living room to 7.1 (from stereo) but were limited to stand mounted surround sound speakers as there was no access to the ceiling (2nd floor bedrooms above). Both set-ups were great, but the higher placement of the family room speakers made that the go to spot for action movies.
Having downsized to a rental home that just has a living room with little or no access to running hidden wires, I have been searching for a good soundbar alternative without spending the thousands of dollars that I did "back home" to get a similar sound experience. I have been using a Yamaha YAS-209 that was not Dolby Atmos compatible as it didn't need to be when I got it. It has pretty good sound, but connection issues abound.
I recently upgraded to a high end LG OLED TV with Dolby Atmos (++) capabilities, and have access to almost every streaming service, so I was on the hunt for a good Atmos soundbar. After watching countless reviews on at least 10 different soundbars, you convinced me that the LG SP9YA 5.1.2 should be my choice. Please don't disappoint 🙂
    Thanks
    Kevin

I have surround sound hooked up, currently just a 5.2 with a couple of Polk RTI-A1's bi-wired because they're power hungry. When watching movies I feel like the ambient sound added by the rear surrounds is worth keeping it around for, and it's definitely a benefit with gaming, though I rarely have time to game anymore. I've considered going for an all in one solution, and was excited for the Cinema 1200 until your review kind of tempered my enthusiasm. I'll wait to see if those kinks get ironed out before jumping to downsize from my current set up.
Excellent review as always. Thanks guys!

My sound system is a 5.1 Logitech Z5500 that I’ve had for years. It’s been 3.1 for a long time because it has been impractical to place the satellites without cables being an impost to movement or unsightly.

I am glad to see that LG is approaching smaller spaces. My Condo is 465 square feet so most larger solutions just get complaints from my neighbors! I currently use a Sonos BEAM and two Play:1 's and it works great in a smaller space. I am using an LGF sound plate for my bedroom TV as 5.1 in that space is less important. I use it for a wind down and news before bed or in the morning prior to getting out of bed,..

I have the next step down from this (the SP8) which I believe is almost identical to this model without the side speakers built into the bar. I say "almost" identical because when I tried the SP9, I felt that the center channel audio was a little off compared to the SP8. So I wonder if that is related to the distortion you found. I ended up going with the SP8. I do wish someone would review one of these LGs (the 8 or the 9) with the optional rear speakers. These are one of the few brands that let me use my existing ceiling speaker wire instead of plugging them into wall power. I have them and it really makes a difference. They are also stupid easy to install. It's basically plug & play. I find the sub has plenty of punch and I can't imagine going to 85DB (I guess my room isn't big enough). I've also never had an issue with the app connecting.
I came from a traditional 5.1 home theater system with a receiver and I was blown away by how good it sounded. In fact, when I first turned it on, I thought it was still coming from the receiver. So happy with this soundbar and the simplified setup over a receiver. I control everything now with my Apple TV and was able to see my HarmonyOne for almost as much as I paid for it.

I went with the SP8 too because of the center channel thing, it was on sale for only $500!!! I’m no audio expert, but this thing is absolutely amazing. It truly feels like real surround sound when atmos is turned on, but other modes like regular DTS and true HD etc.. sound just as immersive depending on the content/scene. So glad I got this instead of the SP9 and again only $500! I got freaking lucky.

Glad I found your channel as I have downsized and my full 7.2 Atmos capable system just doesn't have the space for it now. And yes I ran the full 7.2 with the side and rear surrounds. (nice square room with easy ceiling mounts). Currently running the system in just 3.1 and it just isn't doing it for me plus the room aesthetics are challenged with the speaker config. Wife factor is also big and she is a soundbar fan. The LG has jumped up into the potential buy catagory.

Plugged the sub in the corner, connected bar power cord & HDMI to eARC.. connected to the soundbar via wifi.. ran the room calibration, and bam. Done. LG OLED instantly recognized the bar and I ca. run everything off of just my 4K AppleTV remote 👍🏼
Have been listening to my playlist favorites for past two hours. My wife & I selected “Bass Boost”, left treble at zero, bumped bass output to +1, and the sound is fantastic. Volumes of 20-25 are plenty loud. Very happy with this bar.

Fantastic review as always! But man, I bought this because I wanted a streamline system that sounded good. I went from a Denon receiver, Klipsch 12SW and Jamo satellites (another reason for wanting something new) and I now I just feel like I’ve wasted a bunch money. I should have just replaced those satellites. The LG sub is almost non-existent, I spent an hour or so trying to figure out if I did something wrong in the setup but I think my basis of comparison to the 12SW is the problem and for the original price point I just expected more from it. However, I am pleased with the bar itself. I think for a bedroom this would be a great system.

Hello everybody!! We hope that your Sunday is off to a good start. For those wondering about the Sonos Arc. We still haven't heard it. I'm sure it's fine but no, we aren't planning to buy one. Sorry to disappoint you as I hate to do that but...I'd much rather see you support the brands who support us anyway! So buy the LG (or any of the others mentioned) instead! 😍

I did! Bought the Samsung Q950A based on the review here. The Sonos is one of those brands so hyped by its users that I’m predisposed to ignore it. How could it be THAT good? Their lack of supplying a review unit doesn’t motivate me to look at them either. What are they hiding?

    • @KristiWright
      @KristiWright 3 роки тому +1

@@SeanVedell I'm don't know if it is that they are hiding anything as much as it might be that from their perspective they don't need another review of the Arc. My guess is that it sells well enough or more reviewers would get one. Who knows. Maybe when they replace the Arc, we'll finally get Sonos to send something. But at this point, I'm done asking for one.
      Besides, the Samsung is great!

We have surrounds in two of the three rooms we watch most often. In the media/game room it is 5.2.2. I wish it was 7.4.2, but with one listening row and room layout, 5.2.2 works really well. In the bedroom we have the sonos 5.1 (playbar, one surrounds, and sub). It sounds pretty good, but the main acceptance factors are the wireless connectivity, and it’s ability to blend in well. We have a playbar and sub in the living room. Surrounds would not fit in well, or would stick out. I don’t really miss the surrounds in the living room, but we don’t really watch movies their either.

I only use it for Movies & Gaming & its perfect for my needs. I wouldn't spend over a £1000+ on a soundbar setup. Thats why I didn't purchase the Samsung Q950a this year, for £1499. Andrew, purchased the LG 70pue 4K TV and LGSPY9 soundbar back in December 21. Great combination, recently learned more about soundbars, sounds, Dolby Digital, Atmos and HDMI vs Optical.
My living room is 800sq/ft and it’s a great pairing. How often does anyone listen to 85 btw. Now that I’ve fix all the settings
Your videos are quite helpful and a couple others. You and your lady friend are quite knowledgeable and convincing. I learned today my soundbar has a APP(Thanks for that).

First time viewer. Great review, I like the lady commenting in the background at the end to have some sort of second opinion. I had returned a LG 7ny previously as I wasn't impressed with it for the money so I might give this a try. I want so much to like the elevate but in the end I just think that it's just some more breakable part because it keeps going up and down. Your other suggestions are interesting but Atmos now day I think is pretty much mandatory. Subscribed.

Great review! You and Kristi are a great team haha! I've got this bar paired with an LG77C1 and love it. I also bought the rear satellite speakers and have to say for the money they are decent. I think I paid $100 on sale. On the app I opted for the "Original" vs the "Surround/Always On" for the rears. When they are active I get great surround with them. I can also confirm what you said about the intermittent connection issues. My living room is about 15'x20' with ~10' ceiling and I can't get it to that 86db distortion level. It fills my room no problem. Thanks for the great review! Subbed!

We have the Samsung Q950A now, which I adore, and right now the satellites are on stands so my gf makes me put them away when it isn't movie night (I play PS5 on a Pulse 3D headset). The surrounds are PSB alpha minis attached right too the wall. I have a really big hometheater 7.4.4 and for some reason I had to change my av receiver every 6 month or get it in repair its not a brand issue because I try every brand possible out there and they all broken, my Yamaha Aventage rxa2080 just die on my sent it to repair so I decided to buy a soundbar in the meantime, originally bought the Sony g700 but returned it for this lg. I must say my wife and I are really impressed for movie its really good for music not so much but It doest a really good job I totally can live with this lg, hard time hearing dialog is thing with the passed with this bar, the subwoofer is ok but overall im really happy with it.

As usual, top notch review and entertaining to boot. This might be the perfect choice for our second room where we watch more movies than listen to music. Price in Canada seems comparable with exchange rate on dollar ($1299). As far as surround goes, i guess I'm Kristi's 1 in 5, been using a 5.1 system for years for TV and movies (and if i had room for presence speakers - i'd move up a notch). Always revert back to a simple 2CH Direct for music though.

5.1. Sofa is against the back wall so I've got the surrounds up high and pointed towards that back wall at about 45° towards each other also. Rear effects get washed across the back wall and really fill the space. The tweeters are less that 12" from the ceiling.
Surrounds are supposed to be non-directional. However, I'm not using dipoles so this works very well. Paradigm Reference Studio 20's.
A little ugly this way but the cabling is in the wall at least. Besides, I'm watching the screen, not them. :)
