36-year-old Iltija Mufti has taken a plunge into electoral politics and the task is cut out for her: this is the first political battle in her family’s home turf of Bijbehara where she is pitted against National Conference veteran Bashir Veeri. Though the constituency is considered a bastion of PDP as the party has never lost an assembly election from the constituency since 1996 but the NC has also been gaining ground steadily. “It's not about taking the mantle forward at all. If you see, our party stands at its weakest, at its lowest point. So for me, you know, the media is projecting it like I'm being anointed, and there's some crown that's being put on my head. It's not,” she told ThePrint.
