Fantastic. I sort of abstain from picking a winner, I'm a bit too awestruck by both versions, the fun you're both having and giving and the creative stuff you do to even pick a winner. But as the songwriter, I have to give props to Nathan for the concept and for Andrew to take it to a different level. Thanks so much!
It's been too long. We are gonna be doing a LOT more in 2024 :) this year was honestly a bit rough for me dealing with some burnout and an enormous amount of producing work that I just couldn't publish how I wanted to... but going hard next year!
it is impossible to pick a winner. well just a suggestion can u keep Nathan's beginning of the song and Andrew's second part of the song? like make them exist together
I like the way the metal pushed this song to a new level. My personal taste would be to change the sound of the drums. Metal drums sound...especially the kick too much like a "thud". I like more boom and open. Again my thoughts. Overall loved both versions!
Sounded good! I feel like the guitar work in the metal version could have been a little more technical but that might just be my preference. I think it took a little bit to get going. The breakdown however, was top notch. I think a blend of both versions would be the ultimate solution.
As an aspiring home metal producer, this super cool and insightful. A round 2 wouldn't be unwanted! Great as always guys; pretty much all I know comes from people like you two. Keep up the amazing work!😎🤘 Maybe once I have money, I'll join produce accelerator.
Awesome!! I just found ur channel. I watchd ur battle against Forest yesterday. Now i watch this. You guys awesome. This is what im looking for my whole life. So inspiring. I wish i can do battle with u someday 😁😁
Wow! I love this track! Andrew..great mix! I'm not really into metal but what you did with this song , I totally dig. I can't pick a winner though. I'd say you both win !
I'll share :) Strings: 8DIO Solo Cello for the super attacky staccatos NI Cremona Quartet (other solo strings layered) Native Instruments (NI) Symphony Strings NI Symphony Brass... I think the Symphony Brass is my all time fave for brass, but Berlin Brass is also great I also use Braams from Keepforest (all their stuff is insanely good) Output has Analog Brass for more punchy brass stabs Drums - Damage is killer, Keepforest is insane (Devastator series). That's for the cinematic stuff.
A merged version would be cool. I liked the guitar over the whole thing and the busier kick pattern from the metal version, blended with everything in the original version. 👍
I do really like the Metal one, expect for the second verse, where I feel there's no real addition to what came before. But definitely everything that comes after is freaking great. And the slowly boost of intensity/agressivity is very good. I do also like the original one, though I find the vocal too much on top, before all the instruments come in. The different cut/arrangement of the vocals in the last part of the Metal one is also bringing some more fresh air, some other dynamic. Nice song ! :)
SORRY NATHAN, THE METAL VERSION GAVE ME CHILLS!!! that was a great production Andrew, you got a new follower here. Im still learning production but I do have about 30ish songs on spotify so far. I would love to learn more. Ill be sure to txt about the challenge and thanks for sharing Nathan! Keep up the great work.
Ideas for nathan -USA vs Indian producer -Usa vs african producer -USA vs UK producer -etc,if you want more details dm (you could just send any sample and ask them to make song using their regional musical elements)
IMO, even though this is a producer battle I don't think there is a clear winner. Both versions have some pretty cool elements in the song. I think the best version of this song falls somewhere between these two versions. The metal guitar definitely offers some anger fitting for the theme of the song. I'm not so sure I'm sold on the classical elements in Nathan's version but I do like the cello. It gives it sort of a Transylvania feel. The poppy drum/impact verses of Nathans version sounds pretty more fitting than the metal version. I wish you guys would release the stems. I would love to take the stems and see if I can create a combination of the two versions😃
Both versions were epic. The metal version felt metal light, though, just dipping a toe into the murky waters of metal. For example, the kick-drum triplets were DOPE, and showed up only once. The guitar riffs were great but too few, and every great metal song has a least one guitar solo, which seemed lacking in this version despite being longer than the original. Still, these are nitpicks, both version were amazing to hear.
that was so sick man!! really liked both versions! do you get all these cool sounds with Native Instruments Komplete Ultimate ? these vocals couldnt have been cheap, damn awesome singer! what did Andrew use for the guitars, amp sims or? sounded killer! thanks heaps guys!
Not sure what Andrew used but I use a wide range of sound libraries but definitely a lot of Native Instruments. The vocals were done in my studio - Saylor Wilterding (vocalist) and I write and release a lot of music together. This song is on Spotify already (under Nathan James Larsen: Monster)
I liked both, but I can't categorize it as a metal. Maybe pop rock, it only became maybe metal on the interlude after 2nd chorus. 2nd verse should have offbeat riff before going to prechorus. Uhm. To be metal, maybe like what Nik Nocturnal does.
This was really great comparison.. I imagined watching some horror movie.. The Cinematic one would be a great one for the beginning of a horror movie; during the credits right after the lead in sequence. It introduces the theme, but it's more subdued, just gives the feeling like 'this is going to be a scary movie'.. then the film starts and the crescendo of horror increases.. part way thru the film there's a montage of shock and awe, horror and mayhem, then the Metal version is underlying all this, it has speed, intensity, and can inflict the anger and terror.. then the film starts its third act, and slowly the film winds down, the cinematic version starts to filter into the third act, and like any other horror film when you think it's over, HAHAHAHA, you know ti comes out and grabs you one more time, for that surprised terror, and the metal version comes in and hits you like a 'ton of heavy things' (queensryche). The film ends with the cinematic version, and thru the credits we go from the cinematic builds up again, to the metal version, then the cinematic, and the film is over.. :)
Really enjoyed it love you both Metal version is dope but cinematic is just fire the strings has a really deep meaning.. the metallic guitar is kinda hard firee... ❤❤❤
Both versions are cool but although I am metal lover I do prefer Nathan's. That 'metal' version is cool but it I wouldn't call it metal. It is closer to kind of symphonic rock. Guitars are also too polite ;) To be honest I expected the real metal thing. The more contrast the more fun ;) But good job anyway, maybe not quite metal as promised though ;) The vocal is insanely good. The song as well. I believe there is potential here for many different genre battles :)
Those spiccato strings sounds really crisp, sharp and great. What plugin to you use for that? I have been looking since summer for great sounding spicatto / short strings. I hope you reply. 🙏
The cello is 8dio solo cello. But I usually will layer them with other libraries like Native Instruments Symphony Strings or Berlin Strings (they have a really short spiccato patch that is sick)

Sweet dude I want to challenge u but I am just a beginner I use loops in GarageBand 🎸 this would be fun 🤩
If I am a beginner can I just use garage band cause I am don’t have a computer
It was an honor doing battle with you 💪

I am a metal guitarist but i like the original version. It was a close one! Great vocals and awesome tracks!
Man both versions are great, but that breakdown in the metal one hits dude!
Both are awesome but metal sounds more like a “monster” to me. Great work guys!
Both versions are good but I’d listen to the metal version of that all day every day. I want an album of that sound!!
Metal version for sure
Love this video. Can’t wait to dive into the challenge you’re having!! Both tracks are sick! Hard to say which is better cause they’re so different!

Metal version FTW here I think - great track and great vocals
Both are great. Do first half Nathans version and second half Metal version.
its a toss up. Loved the huge percs on Nathan's. that triplet kicks on the rock version at the end threw me for a happy loop. Great jog guys.
A merged version would be cool. I liked the guitar over the whole thing and the busier kick pattern from the metal version, blended with everything in the original version. 👍
I thought the Metal version held back back a bit, but the bass drops were nice. Did indeed pick up a bit in the second half though.
I don't usually like metal but that was great!
