It's one of the most hated tracks by RUSH purists (yes, those who look like the priests of Syrinx's temple), however one of the most covered by bassists and drummers on youtube. You need to have a lot of stamina and precision to play it correctly.
RIP Neil Peart. Your lyrics and drumming are superconductors in themselves and will continue superconducting in cyberspace. Thank You for all you have given us. Rest in Peace
"Show Me Don't Tell Me" the whole record is a 'return to form" bringing the Rock back to the synthesizer roll!! And Alex turning up nice and LOUD again!!! Killer LP!! #RUSHROCKS
thanks---part of the forte' was to intentionally always keep progressing--according to Peart, they didn't find a band identity until Moving Pictures, and myself, my inner-child stopped identifying with them at the album, but i did like some of the stuff post 82. they were comparable to Pat Metheny, for example, where Pat( and Lyall Maze ) weren't afraid to use any of the latest technology that came along, which any trad jazzers were mostly against, and the midi-system was some they used as well as Rush beginning around the late 70s. however, Rush also managed to do that as well as wright some radio friendly stuff to stay in the game.
The video was directed by one of the founding members of Devo, Gerald Casale. MTV videos were already becoming a thing of the past by this stage, and it didn't get much airplay. Yes, Geddy is standing on stage right (on the left, as we see him) when he NEVER does that during live performances; I don't know why he's out of place here.
I see some folk seem to think the crowd is "cheesy" and things along those lines. I'd just like to point out that it's to fit the theme of the song and its meaning, I believe the mindless behavior, generic reactions to everything and immediate shifts in attitude is intentional.
My friend and I were extras in the video. We were directed when to "rage" and when to "sway" lol. When we swayed we were supposed to have glazed-over looks in our eyes. The extras were TOTAL Rush fans I had to make up some excuse to get out of a college Spanish exam so I could spend all day raging and swaying. The Devo dude WAS the director but if memory serves the guys weren't terribly thrilled with the outcome. As you would expect Geddy was the most outgoing and Neil RIP read a book every time there was a break in filming.
A nice video clip, a great song wonderflu pre-chorus and chorus, with some fantastic drumming from Neil - slighlty simpler than usual it seems, but... nope ! what an intensity ! Superconductor is a favourite from the often forgotten "Presto", but I wonder why one can't find a video with a better definition... it's a pity. I remember well that they played a section of that in a medley started with Xanadu back in 1992, the only time I could attend a concert by Rush. Timeless memories. And I keep wondering why Neil called his song superconductor, really. I see the title from a scientist point of view, of course...
Neil Peart was himself a 'superconductor'; there are only a handful of 'power-trio' rock bands, but with his drum kit, and by his masterful lyrics, he humbly elevated RUSH to a level of status and respect untouched by other bands, trio or otherwise.

They wont. Geddy said not too long ago in an interview with Eddie Trunk that Neil not only is retired from Rush, but he is retired from drumming period. He can no longer physically play and doesnt play the drums at all anymore. Of course geddy and alex may do something together, but it would not be as rush. Rush is done forever. There is no rush with a different drummer. Geddy and Alex have both said that before. Honestly though Geddys voice was like beyond shot in their last few tours so I just really dont need to hear him dying on stage anymore. They did enough during their careers.
