    Any time you install a outboard bracket you double the stress on the transom due the cantilever/leveraging. You better make sure your transom is sound and/or additional reinforcement for safety sakes.

    Good stuff brother. I’d love to see a video of how to install a drain plug into the hull. So you can get that last little bit of water out that never comes out the back or use it as a drain port for service work.

    New paint , new Coosa transom. Mounted my bracket according to this video. Found out the hard way twin engine brackets use a different formula. It would help people in the future if you edited this video or made a new one to explain the twin engine bracket measurements. As always great content. Maybe you could make a video on how to fill all the bolt holes in my new transom now 🤣🤣🤣

      Oh no! Sorry dude! That sucks! Was it a new bracket, it didn't have a template? Ouch! You can't edit once the videos published :( sadly.
      Take a 1/2 hole saw or maybe a 5/8 depending in the size of your holes, and take out the drill bit and make plugs out of some treated wood or left over Coosa, then soak the in the resin and stick them in the holes :)

    I've been following your videos for a while now. Their great. I just purchased a boat that didn't run, 24ft Jaws by Lorequin Marine. it needed work which is why I purchased it. It needed a PCM , fuel line work, coil packs and driver. I took your advise on cleaning the VST on the Opti 225. It started today and ran like a champ. My question to you is, I noticed some gauges dont work. Im thinking of autometer Marine carbon series. will any marine gauge work on a 2 stroke outboard. Keep the videos coming thanks for your time...

      Well for an engine its usually about 55 ft lbs. For this, I hit with the impact until the nuts don't spin and stop before it starts to sink into the fiberglass :) eventually you just get a feel for it and know when it's good lol I'm not sure for the bracket sorry :(

  • @benduea2713
    @benduea2713 2 роки тому +2

    You don’t measure off the platform of the bracket, you measure from where the engine mounting riser which is usually at least 4”. And for every foot back on the bracket you raise it 1 inch. Just saying!

    most boaters figure the drive shaft nose cone and Prop need to be as dead center as can be accomplished.
    But (more so; with super hi performance Hull and outboard Horse Power) I always Took into account The torque created by the direction the prop swung especially at high speeds.
    For ex. a clockwise spin develops a centrifugal force which when she is trimmed out real high will actually Walk the hull to the right sideways. yer gonna lose 2 or 3 mph.
    so...u mount the engine to favor the Starboard. an inch

    You misses out a very important fact - that engine can be mounted higher the further back behind the boat? Now your cav plate will be to low when on the plane. That engine needed to go 4inches higher at 30Inch behind the boat. How did you find it when fitted and RUN?

    Why do you set the swim platform level of the bracket at the 20" or 25" distance up from the keel and not the top of the raised section. where the motor hangs, like a regular transom ? Because that raised section on the bracket is higher then the swim platform deck.

  • @jarodstrain8905
    @jarodstrain8905 2 роки тому +1

    Without watching the video I'm going to say that the best reason to not put a bracket on is because it increases the leverage that the motor has on the back of the boat, increasing stress on the transom and reducing the life of it. That said, there are proper ways to install one that don't eliminate this issue but at least make it manageable.

  • @youdonthavetoreadthispost.5850

    There are so many reason that this makes sense. early versions of bracket/lifts were pioneered right here by Glenn Woolridge on the Wild & Scenic Rogue River. His boats are legendary and still highly desirable. Woolridge is still in business 👍. My drift boat motor is suspended behind the hulls contact with the water by the 'rocker' built in to the design. My fellow fishermen approved this message 🌐 It's a watery world.🌐

    Hello. I need to know if I could be able to put a bracket and a little more heavy engine in a 1990 center console proline with I have now envirude 225hp in a open transom on rear of boat ( not close) My intentions are to use similar bracket on this video and 200hp 4 strokes Suzuki with will be about 700-900 pounds on the back of my boat!

    • @BornAgainBoating
      @BornAgainBoating  4 роки тому +2

      These are sticky situations. Because older boats were not designed for the extra weight in the back, when you add the bracket and then the heavier engine, some of those older boats will tend to porpoise because they are too light in the bow. Then you have to add weight to the bow to get them to ride correctly.
      You also want to look at the deck and how far above the water line the deck is. If it's just above the waterline, and you add the weight and it can push the back of the boat down and allow water to always come in the deck drains. So there are some things that you want to research and look at to consider before going all in on the project!
      Not to scare you, most of the time just like with this 23, the end result is amazing and there aren't any issues! Just be mindful of those things.

    Hello goodnight
    I am writing from Argentina, I have a donzi 16 sweet, we remove the internal motor and we want to put a mercury PRO XS 115 HP outboard motor ... it will work well with a bracket? , could you help me to do the calculations, I would not like to move it far from the transom

    • @BornAgainBoating
      @BornAgainBoating  4 роки тому

      Hello, youll have to strengthen the transom, but I've never done something like that on a small 16 foot boat, youll want to use a small single engine bracket and then also, the 115 sounds like a small engine. I just looked it up and they came with 200 and 250 engines!

    • @jorgepitar9214
      @jorgepitar9214 4 роки тому

      @@BornAgainBoating Good day ! Thanks for your answer ... 115 is not enough, but here in Argentina they wouldn't let me install something bigger, the idea was a 150 .. let's see if by changing the computer we can bring it a higher power.
      Here it is said that every 4 inches it moves away from the transom, you have to raise the engine half an inch ... do you know if that's the case? How do you do the calculation? I saw some calculations in the video but the language doesn't suit me.
      Cheers !!

    Other than the transom angle, how does adding an engine bracket change the ride of the boat? Advantages and disadvantages?

    • @BornAgainBoating
      @BornAgainBoating  4 роки тому +1

      It gets the engine off the transom quite a bit and allows to give more lift to the boat. Backing up, it makes the boat handle a little different with the space between the engine and the transom, it pushes the water against the boat :/. You get used to it though, I love putting brackets on older boats and opening up the back for more fishing room and more gear. Plus getting in and out of the boat is way easier with the platform bracket :)

    • @johnpike5836
      @johnpike5836 4 роки тому +1

      Just a fantastic Question; I've heard that it may create a "Balance Issue".
      For all intents and purposes, it extends the actual length of the boat in terms of where the drive is re-located.
      It seems to me that all that re-located weight Plus the thrust (at a standing start) might cause her to take a little more time to plane out?
      I also think that "Handling and Cornering" could be affected due to the distance the prop drive is away from the keel.
      The Project as far as "The Glass Work and craftsmanship goes, is Born Again Boating Signature Excellence".
      But I would never go with the extended transom option. (no harm meant)

    Will I get more speed outta doing this?

      Yes, usually you will see a little more speed, depending on the hull of the boat. Also it makes it really easy for you to get in and out of the boat with the platform, along with some other perks like more room in the back of the boat!

      We didn't make a video about that, it was just the center piece and the ends we trimmed up :)
