The universe must be conspiring because last month I started setting up my first book, but I gave up eventually. Last few days I thought giving it another try. It's hard setting up a book even if it's just for personal use, to see my photos printed for the first time. So, thank you for this, it was very helpful!
I definitely agree that it changes your photography ☺️ I printed mine a few months ago and decided to print photos from the past year. It was one year since I bought my first personal camera. I wanted to celebrate it. It was really heart warming seeing my photos printed in a larger format. It not shows you the greatness of your shots but also the flaws. It's a great way to improve. I definitely suggest printing your photos ☺️
Hi Pierre, what a great idea having a book tribute to the lady's in your life. I've heard of photographers making books, but I've never heard of them doing their Families and loved ones. Your ladies will love your book and will be very proud of you. A tokin of Appreciation, l love it. Good idea to decide whether it should be Horizontal or Vertical. Many thanks Pierre for this great idea. 😊 📒.
So, I've kind of been doing this for several years now. Each year I make a calendar with photos of my daughter for my mother-in-law - her only grandchild. I don't recall exactly when I started, but I've always thought that at some point I would take all those photos and put them into a book. Maybe at "Sweet Sixteen", or high school graduation perhaps, so it would cover around 10 years or so. It would serve as an awesome journey through the years showing my daughter growing up, and also for me a reflection on how my work changes over the years (or doesn't... I hope it does though, as I want to be "growing" too). In the meantime I have been thinking about a more commercial book project. I'm a bit nervous to try it though as I don't really know how to market it - we'll see how that goes.
Printing photos for me is like a next step of your photography. You're not just taking the photos, you are saving them and when you will look at them after a years - you will be warmly surprised by the vibe you got with those photos. I really recomend you all to try to print your photos with different variations of paper and format. matt, glossy, semi gloss, 1:1 ratio or 16:9 or 3:4. Try this out! That's an amazing experience :>
This is one of the few video that is actually useful and not a rule of thirds and leading lines video. I've been here since 2018 every single day virtually. Went from beginner to shooting wedding and corporate hons and having an entire team. I feel stuck after some setbacks. I'll take. Time and put these into practice
I'm starting to upload street photography videos. I'm from Colombia and I hope to grow and continue learning. You did a good job, I congratulate you bro. I hope to have the support of a community like yours. Everyone is very respectful and kind.
Je pars en solo pour Noel à Londres, tu m'as donné envie d'en faire un book ! Meme si j'ai pas l'habitude de prendre les gens dans la rue en photo Je me dis que l'ambiance de Noel pourrait aider ! Merci pour les tips Pierre Have a good day :)
I’ve done 2 photo books now (working on a third). I’m learning that it’s easier to make a book about a single event or story. The current is the second of two books that I call ‘The second five’ which records the second five years of my daughter’s life. It’s obviously part two to ‘The first five’. I try to focus on what I believe are her core memories. There’s no single story because our lives are an amalgamation of many stories. So there are sections of the book which are dedicated to separate stories. This sometimes requires transitions harder than I’d have liked. Given limited space (46 pages in my case), it’s difficult to sacrifice valuable space for a ‘detail shot’. There are many pages wherein it’s a mix of color and black and white because that photo in particular is a story all its own and the feel of the moment is better conveyed in B&W. Some are better conveyed in color, imo.
Did you download the printing proofs from Whitewall for the particular paper you ended up using? And do you leave the option on for Whitewall to adjust your photos for exposure, sharpness, etc.? In my experience the hardest thing about printing photos is getting the gamma, contrast and colors to look as close to the screen version as possible. Would love to know your detailed process in preparing your images for print. Surely you didn’t just slap a LUT on them and upload the jpegs. Did you upload them at 300 dpi with an sRGB color profile?
one comment - you want a seamless transition from panel to panel BUT you also want to surprise the viewer with every turn of the page, there should be a connecting theme but surprises are great too.
Thanks for still being here! I hope the video was interesting to you. It seems that it still triggers UA-cam to share it more than other videos, so what should one do?
I've made books via Blurb (in the US), Stampa-su-tela (in Italy) and most recently via White Wall. Those from White Wall are of much higher quality than the other two. I tried their app, but it was a disaster--I wanted the English language version and it locked me into their UK printing facility (I live in Italy, and now that the UK left the EU, shipping can be more expensive and I had to pay with British pounds which would require me to pay an exchange fee). But the online approach (like you showed) is great. I've made 4 books so far with White Wall and am working on two more.

Oh beautiful project! Thank you for sharing. Good point about the colors and B&w and details!
Great video sir!

What was the type of Paper chosen? (couldn’t understood it clearly from the video). Thanks.

Whenever I see meaningless clickbait title (preferably with "THIS" word) I open the video, hit dislike button and leave without watching.

Well, that's your loss then isn't it... why comment then?
