- Join Peter and Kathy in this thrilling episode of the Southbound series as they take their Winnebago Revel on an unforgettable overland journey through Baja, Mexico. In this installment, the couple explores the charming village of San Ignacio, complete with visits to the historic Mision and Square, topped off by a stay at their favorite campground, Paraiso Misional.
The adventure continues as they make their way to the Bay of Conception, where they witness a breathtaking display of whales splashing and leaping from the water. Imagine camping on a stunning shell-covered beach with their vans just feet from the water's edge - a truly magical experience.
Their journey then leads them to Loreto, Baja, for some urban exploration and a pit stop at one of their favorite Taco shops in all of Baja. It's the perfect blend of wilderness and civilization, bringing them back to society after days of exploring the wilds of Baja in their Winnebago Revel.
This episode is part of the Southbound series, where Peter and Kathy drive the Pan-American from Dead Horse/Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, to Ushuaia, Argentina, at the bottom of South America. This road trip is the adventure of a lifetime, and you won't want to miss a moment!

I have never seen a whale do the backstroke like that one did. What a sight!!
I know! So amazing!
That was my favorite part of the video too! Except for seeing you guys, of course 😊-Pat B
Beautiful image quality compared to 90% of other UA-camrs. Your photographer's skill really shows and inspires. Also interesting, not cheesy (lol) narration! Will keep watching.
Thank you so much 🙂 I really appreciate this!
We loved your latest video. Your drone skills are 2nd to none. Whale shots were beautiful
Thanks guys! I'm glad you liked it!
After Guatemala you won’t see ten vans anywhere. We’ve been touring Colombia for two weeks and have seen no overlanders except meeting our friends. Americans? None. There must be some but no idea where they are. We do miss Mexico despite the astonishing geography and culture of Colombia.
Thanks for the glimpse into our future. We are loving our time in Mexico but I do find myself dreaming of South America. I am looking forward to getting to the Andes. Keep in touch maybe we will cross paths. Safe travels!
"This can't be right". LOL! We tried forever to get in there with our 30' bus and just couldn't figure it out. Wound up a few blocks away at Rivera instead. One day I'll figure out how to shoehorn ourselves into that campground! 🙂
LOL, glad you found a good spot!
Wow! Love the whale footage!
Glad you enjoyed it! It's a very different angle that what we could see from the vans. Drones are fun! Let's find more.
It's crazy how many rigs are travelling now in Baja. The last few years it's exploded.
Yes, it’s such a great place to skip winter.
You found an authentic burrito! 🤣
It's so great down here! Thanks again for watching!
Another Great Video. I can’t wait to take my Revel in Jan for 2 months. I can’t wait to experience the Van meet up in La Paz.
Thank you! I think you're going to love it!
Saludos desde paraíso misional 🫶🏻
Thanks!!!
Wow. Way cool video of the whales. Loved the city tour of Loretto.
Thanks for watching Steve! The whales were such a treat!
Love San Ignacio mission
Us too! Thanks for watching!
“shell middens, are archaeological sites found along coastlines or near bodies of water where prehistoric societies deposited large quantities of shellfish remains, along with other artifacts and organic materials. These shellmounds are significant for understanding the lifeways, diets, and cultural practices of ancient coastal populations.”
That might just be what we saw. It seemed man made to have thousands of shells in one spot. Thanks for the explanation!
Great video, I almost pulled the trigger on a sprinter van.
Thanks. There's still time, I have zero regrets!
“Make cornbread, not war”
I do like cornbread…
Van meet up in La Paz??
We were at the Escaper Van gathering in La Paz. But we have moved on to Mainland Mexico. Have a blast in Baja!
This was a week ago? I think we are a couple days or so behind you heading south. Where are you now?
Awesome your in Baja! We're on to Mainland Mexico. Unfortunately we can film videos much faster than we can edit them, So there is a delay. Check out our @PeterHolcombe instagram or @Famagogo Patreon for the latest updates.
