Thank you for great video. I think you should made one more video about music theory that need for playing pipa and how to play the note in pipa because may be there are some individuals who want to learn pipa but have no knowledge in music theory.
Ah!! I love you! You are the only person who gives pipa lessons in English on the internet. Thank you so much! I've been trying to teach myself but it is hard. I couldn't find any teachers living in Washington state. Thank you so much for doing this!!
Hi Carrie...I recently attended a Shen Yun concert and was completely enthralled with the pipa. I have a friend who plays the Guqin very beautifully and was wondering if these two instruments are complementary to each other? Thank you for your incredible videos. They are so helpful. I'm sure everyone is eagerly awaiting your return. You truly have a gift for teaching! Best of luck to you!
Thank you for your wonderful comments. Yes, Pipa and Guzheng can definitely play together. There are many pieces for these two instruments ensemble. I will try to return soon!
Carrie Echo Pipa Studio Carrie, that is so encouraging to know. Now, I know you can buy a Pipa many places, but do you have any preferences for the best quality? Enjoy your time off....but please hurry back for us! Wayne
Thank you so much for making these videos!! I just received my first 琵琶 and was so excited that I started tuning it and broke the thinnest string 5 minutes after unboxing :( I really wish I watched your video before putting my hands on the pipa :(
Hello Carrie, it is so wonderful to know your Pipa lesson. Your detailed explanation is easy to understand. It is really helpful to learn Pipa first time like me. By the way, I love to learn Pipa instruments, but there is no way to do it in South Korea. So, I want to translate a video and compose subtitles in Korean for Korean who want to learn pipa if you don't mind. Thank you for the video. Have a wonderful day:)
Hi, thank you for the lovely comment. I’d love to let more people from different countries to learn Pipa in the language they are more familiar with. Could you send me a email to have further discussion about the subtitle? Because I don’t know Korean and also the video has copyright issue. So I hope there will be a plan that could make sure all the information is accurate. Feel free to email me. yangcarrie07@gmail.com
I want to learn this instrument so bad! I’m thinking of buying one soon~ but I don’t know how I’m gonna learn ^^, I play Violin and Electric guitar so I hope it won’t be too hard
Inky7 Hi, if you playing these two instrument, you won’t feel Pipa is hard to you. Will be much more easier. If you are in the US, You can go to amazon to purchase the instrument .I’m also open to online lessons, feel free to ask me.
Carrie Wang will definitely buy one when I have enough funds to do so! Hopefully I’ll be able to get one soon. ^^ Will let you know about once I have it for online lessons, thank you so much!
I just picked up a Pipa and I had a very important question about set up. What should the measurement be of the strings to the frets at the 12th on up? I'm measuring 7mm, which I find it too high making it hard to play. Thank you for answering the question. :-)
Hi, I'm not sure about what you are trying to ask. The string is roll up by the peg, and it doesn't need any measurement about the length. If you are talking about tuning, then you can use a tuner. The tune from 1st string to the 4th string is A E D A. Hope these will help.
@@carriepipa Thank you for your reply. I'm honored that you did! I'm sorry I wasn't more concise in my first post. I am knowledgeable in playing a basic 6 string guitar. The strings rest fairly close to the frets. However, on the Pipa, the strings are very high. 7-8mm above the frets on the upper bamboo frets on the body. So, pressing the string to the fret to play a note takes a lot of pressing down to reach the frets. Moving from the bottom A string to the D string makes that transition rather difficult. I was wondering if that string height was normal for the Pipa. I hope I was able to explain this better.
Hi there, I’m not familiar with France but you could always try Amazon. There is a US seller called Sound of Asia, you could ask them if they will ship worldwide or not.
The lowest strings are nylon core with steel wound around them (long time ago it used to be silk core). This makes them similar to classical guitar strings. The higher string (or maybe the highest 2) are steel. Mine has 3 wound strings (the lower strings) and one solid steel (the highest).
Could you please advise me which brands of Pipa I should buy? In Vietnam, I see that there are two popular brands from China, Xinghai and Duanhuang. I am confused with picking a good one. Thank you very much for your lessons and inspiration, I am going to learn Pipa next week.
Your english is so great that i don't need the subtitle and the lesson is so clear and detail, thanks you so much.
I play Spanish guitar and banjo, never thought of attaching picks like that, always used my nails.
I might give that a try!
Thanks for the lesson, can’t wait to return to learn more when I buy my own Pipa!

Thank you for this video and the links!!

Are you going to make more lessons? I'm saving up so I can but one 🥺 , and there's no a lot of tutorials in English
Now I am try for play it every day
Glad to heart that !Please let me know if you have any question of practice.
Does the flower on the pipa tells levels, cause I see pipas with dragon and bird design
Hi. The flower doesn't stand for leverls, however the pattern on performance level Pipa will be more fancy and well made.
hello, i'm searchingo for a teacher to learn a few songs for a metal band, are you open to teach?
how long will the tape last and can you even reuse it once you put it on?
Yeah, the tape is reusable. Once you find it is not sticky and can not stay on your finger, then change a new one.

Hey Carrie great videos! Do you know the best place to get a pipa for cheap? I really want one but don't want to spend a ton of money on it. Thanks!
If you live in the USA, you can purchase Pipa from a store called Sound of Asia. They will mail the instrument to you.
Hey Carrie im french and for m'y birthday i Want a pipa do you Know a good site for me thanks you verry much
Hi there, I’m not familiar with France but you could always try Amazon. There is a US seller called Sound of Asia, you could ask them if they will ship worldwide or not.
carrie,you can help me
Why do you need the adhesive tape and plastic nails?
The picks (nails )is to protect your real nail and to make louder sound. The function of tape is obvious, to tie the picks onto your finger.
Carrie Wang where can I buy the nails?
amazing video! Umm... I have a question. What kind of rope does the pipa use?
It's not the same as guitar, is it? and How do you tone the pipa?
Hi, thank you for the question. Pipa has it's own string, it's not like guitar. We tone it as A E D A from the first string to the last.
