Thank you Belema for taking time to explain things. What is the minimum salary pay per month, how easy is it to fine work. Finally, what kind of businesses are lucrative that one can start and do in Barbados.
I can’t speak on starting a business. Outside the tourism market, I’m not too sure of the numbers. General minimum wage is $200BDS per week but pay differs from job to job
Yes, it’s a lot. I’m moving to a new apartment soon which lowers the costs but bear in mind that this house was a 4 bedroom and I live with 4 other people so we split it 4 ways
@@BelemaRonabere Understood. Will you be doing a video on that? Btw, as a Bajan, it's interesting to hear your thoughts on Barbados and your experiences here
From what I'm seeing she has shown some high end houses and again that depends on which part of the island you are looking. Rental cost varies. It is best to come see for yourself.
High end??? Loool please no. High end houses start at $4000USD per month for a 2 bedroom. Unless you’re comparing furnished and unfurnished, these are rent prices. The cheapest you can find is if you live in a wooden house and share the space with roommates and live far from the main city area like St Joseph or St Philip
Very informative dear. This is a great information for me to give out. One must be making great income to leave there. However, what is minimum wages there for incoming people. Is Job readily available for foreigners. It has been my dreams to live there. Thanks sister.
I currently live in Barbados and housing prices are totally ridiculous. I find that a lot of locals live with family or live in a family home (grandma/grandad). Also in order to find a decent place you definitely have to know people because a lot of landlords don't post online. The other ridiculous thing is that landlords are looking for short term rentals so they can charge more. Right now I live in a one bedroom with a family of 3, our rent is $800 BBD. It's nice, good location, but I really want a bigger space and I am also tired of sharing a bathroom.
I feel your pain on sharing a bathroom loool. I moved to a smaller house and we now share one bathroom. The struggle is real but I've chosen to live a little more frugal this year. Very true on the living with parents because the housing market is crazy. Fingers crossed that things get better.
Wow the rent over there is a whole mortgage payment. I was contemplating moving to Barbados, it doesn't sound cheaper than living in the US if you're paying everything in USD
We use both BBD and USD interchangeably when talking about prices here. There are definitely cheaper houses here. Keep in mind that this is a 4 bedroom, 4 bath and 1 powder room house fully furnished. If you rent unfurnished and fewer rooms, it's definitely a different pricing. So, no we don't pay everything in USD. We use BBS or BDS, whichever name you prefer.
Barbados is expensive; rents, mortgage, food, electricity, water. Citizens pay very high taxes. Most locals live with relatives. Those that have to rent do so with a heavy heart and a light purse. Only the very wealthy can easily afford the high prices of accommodation. This is because Barbados attracts a lot of tourists and they pay in US ot pounds for what they want, thereby dtiving up the price of the most basic things.
I noticed they don't have burglar bars on the windows and the houses have natural vegetation in the garden rather than smothering everything in concrete.
Good observation. Most places are relatively safe but we do have burglary bars on the inside. The rooms are upstairs so you’ll need a bit of motivation to climb up lol.
Im shocked how expensive these rentals are monthly. For Barbados? Chaiii! Im in the states & my 2br 2ba apt is only $975/month. Brand newly renovated, stainless steel appliances. Maddd oo!
$975 in the states is impossible to find unless you live in a small town or a not so good neighborhood. $2200 not bad for a rental. That’s how much a some 1 and two bedrooms are in the states
I can't tell you, because I'm not immigration. I only know information for my citizenship. You can try reaching out to them but it is most likely true. Keep in mind that just because Barbados is visa free does not mean you can live here indefinitely without a visa. Secondly, the countries you'll have to pass through to get here may require a visa. @@omodeeable2000 Oh I see your question. I have no clue honestly. I do know that the locals live very differently from us. For example, we usually rent furnished houses. They rent unfurnished houses for 1/4 the cost. It's not always wise for us to do so, since we're not longer term residents. The locals also live closer to the country side. Nomads like us usually choose city centers and places close to everything. When you combine these factors, you'll see that the cost of living is different. However, I have to add that the rent increased because of the nomad visa. More people came in with endless budgets and there is very limited supply of housing. I hate to say this but I blame the increase on the Western travelers. They often come in and just post on FB saying "I'm looking for a 4 bedroom for 2 weeks and my budget is $10k USD.
