The joy of motherhood of the main character is overshadowed by tragedy - her newborn son is seriously ill and needs an urgent expensive operation. A senior official, Cyril, with whom Vari had a harrowing love affair for years, refuses to acknowledge paternity and help save the child's life. Varya faces a dramatic choice: abandon his son and give him up for adoption to the family of a wealthy lover, where he will receive full treatment, or try to fight to the end. But then even her only support - the doctor of the maternity hospital Yaroslav - cannot guarantee that the child will survive.

Great medical drama. Well acted. The end seems to come so abruptly without explanation of how we got there so we really have to imagine that and it's like a whole other drama that we lost.

There is an explanation. The adopted Mom realized that she and her husband don’t have a real family, that he’s not spending more time at home once they have a baby, that with all their money the baby was dying and she couldn’t do what Varya did, that she loved the baby but she was useless to the baby and it’s the best for him to stay with his biological mother
