Just to clarify, New Zealand is it’s own beautiful country. Australia is a continent. The geographic region is called Oceania. It is made up of thousands of islands. This region includes Australia, New Zealand, Tonga, Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Micronesia, Samoa, Palau, to name a few (too many to list here). Enjoyed your reaction ✌🏼

New Zealand is very much its own country, and a good friend of Australia's. They are basically seen as our brothers. Lots of Aussies visit or live in NZ, and vice versa.
Australia began to be one country with Federation in 1901, when the six British colonies here finally agreed to a shared government. New Zealand took part in the talks leading to that, and Australia's Constitution still provides for NZ to merge with us IF they ever decide to. Not that anyone sees that happening anytime soon, though. :)

We have the second largest Italian population outside Italy too in Melbourne. Entire villages in Sicily and Calabria became deserted as everyone left on ships to Australia.
Oh and its Labour Day on Monday (14th March), celebrating that 8 hour day and it's a public holiday 😊

Potatoes used to be stored in cellars under the house.
If Potatoes rot they emit extremely poisonous gas that can kill you.
Small quantities of rotting potatoes don't have any effect but large quantities are very dangerous if rotting in a small area.

The "Dingo proof fence" was to keep the Dingo's away from the farms and stop them killing sheep etc. You need to look up probably what is the most common spider in Australia, it's called he "Huntsman". Big one's can get the size of your hand, however they are harmless. One the funny side I once saw one climb into my brothers mouth.
Most Aussies head to New Zealand for ski holidays as NZ has way more snow and bigger mountains, not to mention all sorts of extreme sports activities in Queenstown like Bungey jumping and all sorts of winter sports
Don't worry about the spiders, there is a way to solve the problem, its called a shoe. As for potatoes, it is illegal to carry more than 50kg unless they have been purchased from a grower or retailer. Qantas fly's direct from Rome to Perth, western australia, this is where you will find the pink lake and many more magnificent sites.

Last spider bite death in Australia was 1979. It is that rare. The deadliest spider, the Sydney funnel web, is confined to a small geographical area centred on Sydney and a very specific environment within that area. Lived in Sydney for 40 years and saw only one. It was out for a stroll on a hot summer's night. Reared back to strike defensively and then walked away when it no longer felt threatened. They do not run at you like a savage dog.
But don't stick an appendage in any dark hole in rural Sydney. If you get bitten you're going to have a bad time. Hospital and antivenom is your only chance.
Dingos are some pretty gnarly animals! That’s why we have that fence, it’s to keep them from entering the cities and towns of NSW and Victoria
There are no volcanoes on the mainland, BUT there are two active volcanos on Heard and McDonald Islands. Much prefer to see a spider than a cockroach running around. You get used to seeing them. What I hate, is walking though the bush and walking into a Golden Orb Weaver spider's web.
Those golden orb webs get you moving to 100 real quick 😂

A continent is a large land mass formed a long time ago as a part of Godwana land that split up through plate techtonics. New Zealand is a country that was created through volcanic upwelling and plate subduction pushing up the plate edge, it's a relatively new country.
Yes I agree. I am Australian. Have lived and travelled in a few different parts. And have known Italian and Greek descendants in every one of them.

You'd be in big trouble mate with 110kg. The law is for 110 lbs. 110kgs is 242lbs. That's a tad over the limit. You'd not just lose points on ya spud licence, you'd likely lose the spud licence entirely. Your pantry would be chockers with spuds.

New Zealand sits on a separate continent called Zealandia.
Not that it means anything but there are some small towns in the Southwest of Western Australia where you could actually speak Italian all day and be understood. I was one of 2 non Italian heritage kids in my class (catholic school). That was in the 70s , but some things never change. I've heard the way they speak is similar to what was spoken in Italy in the 40s and 50s.
New Zealand is not part of Australia. I'm an Aussie. I just found you're channel and you are both beautiful and lovely. We do have lots of Greeks in Melbourne where I live. When I grew up I had lots of Greek friends at school. I still have many Greek friends. We really don't have dangerous species everywhere. In suburbs and big cities it's pretty rare. I'm in my 40s and I've never been bitten by anything other than a mozzie
We also have flying spiders here in Australia.

The rule about potatoes had to do with production quotas for potato farmers. It was repealed in 2017 after a scandal. We had a similar rule about hens (for the egg quotas) in New South Wales until about 1990 - it was abolished amid public outrage after the state government killed tens of thousand of one farmer's hens.
Australia is the continent, Oceania is the continental plate. Oceania encompasses probably 20 or so different countries like Fiji, Vanuatu, new Zealand and I think even part of Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. I may be wrong on this, in fact I probably am considering I didn't finish garde 12. Also fun fact New Zealand was/is considered a state of Australia in our constitution.

New Zealand is not on the Australian continental plate. India is, hence it's called the "subcontinent" and shares the same continental plate with Australia.
I always assumed a continent was a body of terra firma without connections to another. You have more chance of being killed by a horse or cow than you have of being killed by a native species.
Just don't stick your hand or foot in any tree hollow or dark hole in the ground or bush and you won't get bitten by a Funnelweb spider, the most dangerous spider in the world. Don't go swimming in the sea in Australia and you won't get eaten by a Great White, Bull or Tiger shark. Don't go stomping about in the bush and you won't get bitten by a snake.
It's pretty safe if you don't go sticking your nose into their homes :)
The country of Australia is consider to contain the continent of Australia within it's borders. So it is a country & a continent. The only one like that. Definitions of continents do vary. Many say there is only one American continent, not North & South America. Others say it is two. Europe's Eastern border is hard to find agreement. But almost (almost) everyone agrees on Australia being it's own continent. 8:57 Reasons for bizarre laws can be lost to history. A joke law, a law put in place for one weird reason. It happens in every country. 11:06 Spend anytime longer than a short stay & you will see spiders bigger than that *holds up fingers*. LOL!! 11:16 Sorry ladies, but it is same in the US. We actually have larger spiders but not as deadly as Australia. I haven't seen one in months though. You might want to research that for Australia, N & S America, and Africa. I'm sure we all want you to come visit, but you might as well know the truth.
Hi, thanks for your answer! :) very interesting, we were always taught at school Australia and New Zealand are part of Oceania continent, this thing about Australia being its own continent is pretty new to me. But the question remain, if Australia is it's own continent, what about New Zealand? Is it consider part of Asia, another continent?

I think Oceania was something FIFA created for World Cup qualification. Because Australia was dominating the opposition with world record scores when it was in Oceania, Australia was admitted into the Asian confederation by FIFA on request, and New Zealand was left to play against all of the island nations that remained in Oceania. It creates a lot of confusion and I bet in a decade or two there might eventually be people who think Australia is in Asia as a result, which it is not.
Australia is usually described as an 'island continent ', much like Antarctica, Africa, Eurasia and the Americas. New Zealand and similar are more accurately described as 'archipelago'.
Also, please ignore the typical American mispronunciation of 'emu'; it's 'eem-yoo', not 'eem-oo'.

Come to Australia, you will love it. We are a funny bunch of people, who joke about all things. Living here is like one big holiday all the time. There are some many cool places to see and things to do. Fun fact I see a Kangaroo jumping down my street each morning on my way to work. I just sat G'day mate and I get a nod back from the Kangaroo.
You should see our huntsman spiders; they average about 12 cm (5 inches) across. I've had three in my house in the last four months, usually on the living room wall. I usually try and chase them out of the house; if I can't then I spray them even though they're pretty harmless. They come into our house to chase and catch cockroaches, so they're actually doing us a favour. They're very timid and run away as soon as they see me... their bite is about the same as a bee sting.
Australia, New Zealand and thousands of islands are made up in the region Oceania but Australia is still a continent in which New Zealand and the thousands of islands are not considered part of
The potato law is WA was probably enforces during a famine to control food wastage but know one in the government has changed it back. Know one has been charge for breaking this law, I'm sure if someone was the government would change the law

The fence was built to contain the rabbits. Australia is a continent, but it is the ONLY Island Continent...It is definitely a separate continent...i.e Australia is a continent on it's OWN, we don't share 😂 NZ is not part of our continent. I have never heard of anyone being bitten by a platypus. Extremely RARE. NO...that potato thing is nonsense 🙄It was a law in place more than 100 years ago, created to protect the potato industry & it only applied to Western Australia. I doubt that you would be fined now if you have more than 50 kg of potatoes in your possession ....YOU WON'T DIE if you come here, & if you stick to the cities, you won't see any spiders, well rarely. As an Aussie, for me it’s not about the size or the lethality of a spider - it’s about if they are in a web, or wandering around. Spiders that live in webs are cool, they just hang out (literally). Ones that wander really give me the heebie jeebies.
My grandson was bitten by a funnel web. It hung on and my daughter had to pull it off.
As for the rest, I’ve seen lots of venomous things in the wild, but generally, if you leave them alone, they leave you alone.
Most Aussies are more scared of magpies in springtime than they are of snakes & spiders.

The dingo fence was constructed in the late 1800s to prevent the spread of the rabbits into farmland and stop the dingoes from killing sheep.
Unfortunately when you come to Australia you will see spiders, your most likely to see the Huntsman spider it can grow to the size of a dinner plate! But the biggest you'll see will probably be roughly the size of an adult hand it's rare to see them any bigger 😏

Our national highway goes mainly around the coast of Australia, its not like a hub as shown, nobody lives in the middle.
Australia is a continent because it has it's own tectonic plate. New Zealand is not on the same tectonic plate as Australia.
Platypuses do not bite, they have a venomous spur on their hind legs.
@10:30 none of the animals depicted are Australian, they are mainly African species.

It's a good idea not to watch videos about Australia presented by Americans, they usually have no idea what they are talking about because they are usually reading a script in a studio and have never been to Australia, nor has the person writing the script.
