its like a kind of semi-fake version of this.its sort of like a modeled version of a real amp.it can sound o.k but is nowere the level of a all tube power and preamp amplifier
I really liked this amp. For me there were 2 problems: a) it gets a bit to mushy when turned up over 50% and b) you don't really get a clean sound and even if you can dial one in it will be with a lot of master volume and almost no gain (bottom end) so it whould need another pedal (minus boost) or very good volume pot fiddling on a guitar with single coils to get an cleanish sound :/

The only one you can change your sound while playing... I like the fact it still makes you smile even after several years or owning. I also prefer the 7 watt mode for recording more clearly.

I have a Mesa rectoverb 25 but it’s missing the mid range that the pink taco gave when I demo’d it. All the channels you need. The pt had way more of a simple to reach sound that I loved. But no clean channel which means A/B with a fender or something. Expensive home set up

I was compelled to buy one of these. I can't stop listening to this video in anticipation of the amp's arrival! Such amazing tone, and I just love the simplicity. Unrelated, but wouldn't it be cool if Marshall did a mini JCM 800? And if they made it in the UK.
Marshall did make a smaller version of the JCM 800 called the JCM 600. It's a great amp but not the most reliable as they forget that heat rises and put a metal plate on top of the valves (I kid u not).
I have the Orange Micro Terror and it sounds great but it has a problem, where the tube keeps vibrating out of the socket. I have to keep the lid off so I can push the tube back in if it cuts out. Does the Dark Terror have this problem?
How to dial in a 3 knob amp... hmmm, lol. A little different than the V:25 yes? I sadly sold my Brent Hinds and miss it, just found that Natural Channel too annoying. Your dirt half way through sounds awesome. I think I should try this out. I loved the super tight character of the Hinds.

Yeah I love what these amps do, plus they're great layered with a Marshall or a Mesa for huge tones. Stoked you dig the tunes! For riff heavy stuff basically anything off our "Back to Zero" album will keep you happy :)
Just got mine today with an Orange PPC112 cab and holy shit. I was set on a 5150 but for the price of a dark terror+PPC112 it was essentially the same as just a 5150 iconic. Super stoked on the tone.

I find it’s a fine line of completely destroying the tone but can’t figure out if it’s better to have high volume low gain on the pedal or high gain on the amp etc. thanks!
@@Chiefthepup I have a Dark Terror and PPC 212 cab and I always use the gain at the head with the pedal ( t/s) to add 'colour'...works for me but I guess it depends on what you're using and the sound you're wanting

I don't know how it works (Orange voodoo magic anyone?) but it transforms the gain structure to be super tight--dialing the pedal volume back takes the gain more towards the original sound but for thrash metal like I play, the volume should stay all the way up.
My amp settings are volume all the way up, shape somewhere in that sweet spot you mentioned, and gain at 2 oclock (i have an attenuator so I don't kill my ears, it can get the amp down to speaking level)
How does it handle small gigs? Because I love the Orange gain structure, and I LOVE boosting with things like a Horizon. I can only imagine how sick it sounds!
It is a high gain amp, dude. So...maybe focus on high gain? Also, for everyone commenting on the TV in the background, and all of the other electronics on in the back, every professional recording studio loves having many, many electronic devices on in the background all going at once. It really, really adds to your sound :)
SWEET ASS STR!! I have the Orange Micro Terror it's a Awesome little amp, don't know what it is but I love these Small-Micro size amps everything from a 1watt to 20watt. Don't know if you've tried one of those Hotone Nano amps but they are great especially for what they cost. Thinking about getting one of those Mojotone Studio 1 watt kits, has anyone built or tried one of them ?
Mine used to sound great, but the last couple months the gain tones just sound incredibly fizzy to me. Not sure what happened. Changed all tubes many times. It was always a little fizzy as you can hear in this video, but now it just sounds like someone yelling from behind a piece of notebook paper... almost too crunchy if that makes sense.
@petkopeet They share the same gain stages, so they’re very similar. The TH30 is slightly thicker, doesn’t get muddy as quick, and has a LOUD clean channel. For the price, I’d recommend the DT. Not enough of a tonal difference to constitute the cost, IMO.
seems like your really into the classic rock sounds. (based on your body language when you play) what would you buy for a classic rock rig if money was not an issue. Guitar, and amp only. and not because someone else played it, just by what you love to come out of your fingertips.
Did you use any pedals? I got my Dark Terror today and it is soooo fuzzy when i turn up the gain... i know that fuzzy tone is normal in orange amps but the fuzzy tone i have sound like shit to be honest. sounds like it is plugged in in a really cheap small cab...
@@andreas-xd7pb I orderd it just a few days ago and it was new, and as i turned it on i followed the users manual and waited 4 min to make sure the tubes are warmed up and then i changed from standby to normal mode and started playing. In Clean it sounded great but with more gain it became so extreme fuzzy as i mentioned before.
What crap ! the Dark Terror is way more than this.... I plugged in a Custom Les Paul and the sustain is 2 minutes... he plays all STACCATO and no leads...

I owned a micro dark terror before I bought my Dark Terror. The Dark Terror is everything missing in the Micro. Less mud for sure.

Yeah it's more a set and forget rock/metal amp.
I used it with emg actives and cleans were soooo fat. I just love it.
Try the Jim Root #4 Terror instead. I can vouch for all it does including its full bodied cleans

The Dual terror has 2 channels IIRC, and then there's the Dual Dark which is the bigger brother of this amp.
Awesome. Does it have output or line/out? I have a focusrite interface that I use for recording demos.
No, you'd need a load box to do that (like i did in this video).
TH30 is pretty much a louder version of the dark terror with a clean channel.

kuringmundo it does the job well, although I personally prefer the Matrix stuff so I can leave AX8 power amp modelling on.

Here's hoping for an ax8 model for the DT. When I had one I put a 5751 in the v1 slot. Really evens out the gain taper. Awesome as always.

Yes, but you'd still need to make sure you're providing a load to the output section of this amp.

All my presets are available on Axechange, for free.
