Grotbags: Gimme Dat Ding

- I've said it before and I'll say it again: I'm baffled as to how Carol Lee Scott didn't have a more successful singing career. That voice! It gets me every time...
This is Gimme Dat Ding, originally by The Pipkins, first broadcast on 21st September 1983. Many thanks to Louise for lending me this tape.
(Please remember that this is an old VHS recording, so don't go expecting 1080p HD quality. I'm fairly certain that this video isn't commercially available, and I've uploaded it for its historic interest only. That said, if you are a copyright holder and object, please don't hesitate to contact me.)
Oh man - Carol was funny, clever, silly, unconventionally gorgeous and one hell of a singer. I sincerely hope her family read these comments and realise that she’s still entertaining people after she’s gone. One of a kind.
R.I.p. Carol Lee Scott, loved grotbags.
She was truly a good singer and actress! You can so see how much fun she has playing that mean witch and still being conscious about delivering those notes!
Wonderful. R. I. P........ Another good one gone. But not forgotten.
I've been listening to this on repeat for the past few days. Haha! I think her version is even better than the original. She had such an amazing singing voice. I hate that we lost her.
I agree. It sounds great. The only thing that spoils it is when the puppets are singing.
yes I grew up with Grotbags she was amazing she always made me laugh as a kid; RIP x
Very good. She has an amazing voice.
how... how did I end up here? Oh yeah right it's because I have to study..
Same😂
right now.. hehe :D
this history essay can wait xD
Same lol
me too!!
I backed Carol many times
Always happy and bubbly and fun to work with.Proud to have known her.
Oh, wow - that's amazing! You were a member of her band for her live cabaret act, were you? I've only ever heard nice things about Carol from anyone who worked with her. :-)
I was a keyboard player for many years. Me and a drummer.I was fortunate enough to have backed many famous artists. Dailey and Wayne ,Frankie Vaughan , Paul Melba,Sandie Shaw ,Michael Barrymore ,Ray Alan Bernard Manning Frank Carson. The list goes on and on.But the one person I enjoyed working with was Carol. She was lovely.
beyonce level profomance ma'am !
keep it up..
the doll heads and the clock are fUCKING TERRIFYING
R.I.P Grotbags, gonna miss you. You scared me and my generation, can't replicate those times or memories.
The irreplaceable, yet so underrated Carol Lee Scott.
I love that soulful, bluesy quality to her voice!
I'm going to have to add that Saturday Show appearance to my list of things I want to find. I doubt there's much chance of it showing up, but you never know. It sounds great, the way you described it, even with Jeremy Beadle. ;-)
I think I watched Rod and Emu more for Grotbags than anything else. Still love Carol's singing now.
Pure brilliance.
Extremely saddened to hear the news that Carol Lee Scott passed away earlier this week (July 2017) - for what it's worth, I've written a mini-obituary in the description here: ua-cam.com/video/NtkE-b4reV8/v-deo.html
Meanwhile, here are a few of my other favourite Grotbags masterpieces: ua-cam.com/video/NtkE-b4reV8/v-deo.html?list=PLYzsPPYPRRFUzVA5d6WYVfI6Y3na01x-2
VideotapeFTW so sad to hear about this... she was amazing and will be missed by those who grew up with her and people like myself who found her later on. also listen to that amazing jazz voice
Put Children's TV back on the main channels. Let them have some fun, fantasy and inspiration in their lives.

I use to absolutely love ♥️ watching this when I was little, thank you, for the reminiscing memories.
I was not expecting such a good voice :O
All respect to the sheer FUN she is having here!
This show used to include real music and slipped a little culture into the kids tv I was born in 1980 so my memory of the actual original show is foggy since i was only 4 when the first stuff came on tv but i still recall it some how
So sad to hear of her passing today. Another childhood star lost to us too soon, 74 is no age these days really. She'll be chasing Rod and Emu around in heaven now. :-(
Very sad news indeed, and just after a resurgence in interest due to the Pink Windmill Kids reforming. Hard to believe Carol was still in her 30s when she first played Grotbags! 74 really is no age at all...
That is one scary piece of broccoli.
😂
🥦
She sang so many songs brilliantly when working with Rod Hull and Emu. She would have made a brilliant album if the producers thought of if doing one. RIP Carol Lee Scott, a truly great legend sadly missed and never forgotten.
She released 2 albums, I have one here, signed by the great lady herself no less
Omg you just resurrected a happy memory from my childhood mornings before school. I’d eat my breakfast in the kitchen and I remember when this show would come on. I loved it soo much! Thank you!!!
Grotbags we love you 😘
Wonderful childrens tv took it so much for granted look back now my god quality tv full musicals better than any tv programs now 😘
I have this in my playlist and listen to it every day!! ;o)
Thismis awesome to see! I remember watching grotbags as a kid. Sad to hear the lady who played her Carol lee scott has died. R.i.p Grotbags.
I was having a bad day.. Then remembered that this existed :) Grotty for life!
Famous in America as Benny Hill Show music
She was pure magical

just wonderful :) Makes me very happy
Thanks to youtube ive discovered this witch and this show and emu...a few years before my time here. Thks youtube you are good for something.
*"Gimme that" repeated ad nauseam*
But seriously, Carol Lee had such a wonderful, soulful voice and I don't know why the albums she released under her actual name weren't really successful. But I DO know she left quite a legacy; not only for 80s kids who watched the Pink Windmill shows on TV, but for younger people that were introduced to the Pink Windmill shows via the All Live '84 "Can't Stop The Music" routine, like me; for example.
*rip*
I have found nirvana.
It's like an actual misic video for the song!
Does anyone have the full episode? I really want to know under what context this song was used. Grotbags rules btw.
Here you are: ua-cam.com/video/mRy97GjDxzY/v-deo.html
Although, to be honest, no context was ever necessary for anyone to launch into song on this show.
Surprised me how catchy it was !
I can always picture a couple on strictly dancing the Charleston to this song.
Eine wunderschöne Stimme
Theme song 🎵 to my life
I grew up on grotbagz too
R.i.p carol lee Scott 😭
But I'll never never give you that ding
make a trap Remix about this
I remember this from when i was a kid a long time ago!!
Gotta love Grotbags!
This represents the zenith of Western Civilisation.
Neil Saunders I've reached the firm conclusion that children's television peaked around a minute and a half into this video:

VideotapeFTW I see no reason to disagree with you!
The song is now my favourite bra!!!!!
wait this is so iconic
I love grotbags!!!!!!!
wonderful :)
2:10 it looks like she's holding something with the middle finger held up in her right hand! Ahahaha
Lol its the index finger and she used it to hit croc all the time 😂
...¡❤ Tremendo, tremendo!
My childhood
im way too high for whatever the fuck i just watched
This song is awesome and the singer Carol Lee Scott, has a fabulous voice! Would love to hear some jazz blues or gospel with her going in scatting....
If you search UA-cam for "Grotbags sings playlist" (without the quotes), you'll find plenty that she sang on the show down the years.
Just awesome !
This song is so catchy
AHH Grotbags Carol lee Scott a great singer and played it we'll look for bullseye with CLS on throwing for charity without make up
Love her
I love this so much 🦄🦄🦄🦄❤️
One more thing Rip 1943 - 2017😓
RIP Grotbags x
RIP Grotbags
Best witch ever!
RIP GROTBAGS (carol lee Scott) :( x
Gimme that ding by the pipkins.
TV Entertainment was all downhill from here ...this was the peak
gimme gimme gimme that thing
RIP 😭😭😭
This a song by The Pipkins
I wish she sang more on the show! For what I’ve seen she’s only sang 2 songs- they did grotbags dirty for her voice
She sung a lot more actually :) There’s a playlist called “Grotbags sings” that VideotapeFTW made :)
Grotbags could actually hold a tune better than Rod! I remember seeing her on The Saturday Show years ago - with some of the Pink Windmill Kids, I think - where she sang a fast number towards the end of the show, with Jeremy Beadle dancing with a female guest. I know I'm showing my age, but children's TV shows were the best in the 80's! The only one I like now is Horrible Histories...
Gibmedats!
RIP
1:04 scary asf omfg
0:07 Sarah’s face: 👁👄👁
This reminds me of H.R. Puff'n'Stuff.
I believe the look of the show was indeed based on that.
Donald Trump's song.
Nah, this is: ua-cam.com/video/S9GMftGtt2I/v-deo.html
Just for the record, this is the ultimate Grotbags song: ua-cam.com/video/ix9xB8p7ado/v-deo.html

Was sid and marty krofft an inspiration for this????
The look of the show, yes, we believe so.
camp as christmas
thtose heads sounding satanic like that give it so much....instead of a kids voicelike in others vidz
Veruca salt from Charlie and the chocolate factory be like: 0:00 - 0:25
0:06 ,is Sarah :v?
Yes, that's Sarah.
What happened to Grotbags?
You mean the actress? I gather that Carol Lee Scott is now retired from showbiz.
VideotapeFTW Sad.
placid renegade She passed away recently.
I thought it said gimmie dat ting
It's referring to the sound a metronome makes, rather than a variation on the word "thing" (even though that's what's implied here).
It might have helped if she understood the song. It's "ding", not "thing".
The lyrics explain it a bit: "What good's a metronome without a bell for ringin'?"
(I know, I know: metronomes don't use bells but ask those who wrote the original TV show for which this song was made.)
To be fair, they often mangled the lyrics of songs to fit better with the plot.
Hamachisn't To be fair, when I first heard this song years ago, I thought she was singing 'thing'.
It was s children's programme!
The pink widmill kids??
That's right, yes. Not sure what you're asking.
@@VideotapeFTW oh my bad. I just recognized the filming set haha because I watched the "you cant stop the music" vid a lot . I never watched grotbags growing up tho
@@Its_Star_Brite Oh, I see - yes, this is a year before the famous Pink Windmill moment ("Hi, my name's Catrina..." etc.), but they did loads of songs on the show down the years. Search UA-cam for "Emu's Pink Windmill Kids", and you won't believe how far you have to scroll down to get them all in!
soooo.... she want's some "ding" huh?
Donald trump s twin sister
This looks like a cheap rip off cross between HR Puffenstuff and Pee Wee's Playhouse.
The look of the show was indeed partly based on HR Pufnstuf - that's not a secret. Nothing to do with Pee Wee's Playhouse, though, as Emu's World pre-dates that by a few years.
