Brown Baron, this is the Original" He was just a rookie trooper and he surely shook with fright, He checked all his equipment and made sure his pack was tight; He had to sit and listen to those awful engines roar, "You ain't gonna jump no more!" (CHORUS) Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die, Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die, Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die, He ain't gonna jump no more! "Is everybody happy?" cried the Sergeant looking up, Our Hero feebly answered "Yes," and then they stood him up; He jumped into the icy blast, his static line unhooked, And he ain't gonna jump no more. (CHORUS) Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die, Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die, Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die, He ain't gonna jump no more! He counted long, he counted loud, he waited for the shock, He felt the wind, he felt the cold, he felt the awful drop, The silk from his reserves spilled out, and wrapped around his legs, And he ain't gonna jump no more. (CHORUS) Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die, Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die, Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die, He ain't gonna jump no more! The risers swung around his neck, connectors cracked his dome, Suspension lines were tied in knots around his skinny bones; The canopy became his shroud; he hurtled to the ground. And he ain't gonna jump no more. (CHORUS) Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die, Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die, Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die, He ain't gonna jump no more! The days he'd lived and loved and laughed kept running through his mind, He thought about the girl back home, the one he'd left behind; He thought about the medic corps, and wondered what they'd find, And he ain't gonna jump no more. (CHORUS) Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die, Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die, Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die, He ain't gonna jump no more! The ambulance was on the spot, the jeeps were running wild, The medics jumped and screamed with glee, they rolled their sleeves and smiled, For it had been a week or more since last a 'Chute had failed, And he ain't gonna jump no more. (CHORUS) Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die, Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die, Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die, He ain't gonna jump no more! He hit the ground, the sound was "SPLAT", his blood went spurting high; His comrades, they were heard to say "A hell of a way to die!" He lay there, rolling 'round in the welter of his gore, And he ain't gonna jump no more. (CHORUS) Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die, Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die, Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die, He ain't gonna jump no more! (slowly, solemnly; about half the speed of the other verses) There was blood upon the risers, there were brains upon the chute, Intestines were a-dangling from his paratroopers suit, He was a mess, they picked him up, and poured him from his boots, And he ain't gonna jump no more. Gory gory what a Helluva way to die
Gory gory what a helluva way to DIE!
He aint gonna jump no more
Now the baby son grew up
And said a troopers life for me
A jumper like my daddy was is all I want to be
I only hope that I can jump as half as well as he
HE AIN'T GONNA JUMP NO MORE
Oh, Gory gory what a helluva way to die
Gory gory what a Helluva way to die
Gory gory what a helluva way to DIE!
He aint gonna jump no more
Now they sent him to Afghanistan and then into Iraq
The bullet then came speeding out then deep into his back
He hit the ground but his grenade found enemy on track
HE AINT GONNA JUMP NO MORE
Oh,Gory gory what a helluva way to die
Gory gory what a Helluva way to die
Gory gory what a helluva way to DIE!
He aint gonna jump no more
hesterhester19 "now they sent him to Afghanistan and then into Iraq the bullet came speeding and deep into his back he hit the ground but his grenade found enemy on track
chubman zerosix so just curious, I thought this song was made a long time ago (like around WW2) But was the last verse made up somewhat recently to include the troops sent out to the middle east or am I mistaken? If anyone has any idea, please let me know, thanks
Brown Baron, this is the Original"
He was just a rookie trooper and he surely shook with fright,
He checked all his equipment and made sure his pack was tight;
He had to sit and listen to those awful engines roar,
"You ain't gonna jump no more!"
(CHORUS)
Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die,
Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die,
Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die,
He ain't gonna jump no more!
"Is everybody happy?" cried the Sergeant looking up,
Our Hero feebly answered "Yes," and then they stood him up;
He jumped into the icy blast, his static line unhooked,
And he ain't gonna jump no more.
(CHORUS)
Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die,
Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die,
Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die,
He ain't gonna jump no more!
He counted long, he counted loud, he waited for the shock,
He felt the wind, he felt the cold, he felt the awful drop,
The silk from his reserves spilled out, and wrapped around his legs,
And he ain't gonna jump no more.
(CHORUS)
Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die,
Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die,
Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die,
He ain't gonna jump no more!
The risers swung around his neck, connectors cracked his dome,
Suspension lines were tied in knots around his skinny bones;
The canopy became his shroud; he hurtled to the ground.
And he ain't gonna jump no more.
(CHORUS)
Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die,
Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die,
Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die,
He ain't gonna jump no more!
The days he'd lived and loved and laughed kept running through his mind,
He thought about the girl back home, the one he'd left behind;
He thought about the medic corps, and wondered what they'd find,
And he ain't gonna jump no more.
(CHORUS)
Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die,
Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die,
Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die,
He ain't gonna jump no more!
The ambulance was on the spot, the jeeps were running wild,
The medics jumped and screamed with glee, they rolled their sleeves and smiled,
For it had been a week or more since last a 'Chute had failed,
And he ain't gonna jump no more.
(CHORUS)
Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die,
Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die,
Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die,
He ain't gonna jump no more!
He hit the ground, the sound was "SPLAT", his blood went spurting high;
His comrades, they were heard to say "A hell of a way to die!"
He lay there, rolling 'round in the welter of his gore,
And he ain't gonna jump no more.
(CHORUS)
Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die,
Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die,
Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die,
He ain't gonna jump no more!
(slowly, solemnly; about half the speed of the other verses)
There was blood upon the risers, there were brains upon the chute,
Intestines were a-dangling from his paratroopers suit,
He was a mess, they picked him up, and poured him from his boots,
And he ain't gonna jump no more.
(CHORUS)
Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die,
Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die,
Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die,
He ain't gonna jump no more!
The last verse is: now they sent him to Afghanistan and then into Iraq, the bullet that came speeding up went deep into his back. He hit the ground but his grenade found enemy on track...

My father was a conscription in Soviet controlled Poland at 18. The stories of how he was in the military for 4 years and how he liked it (despite bring for the soviets), he wished he had joined the US military when he moved to the United States. I'd like to join one day to be trained to protect this nation I was born in and the country my family originated in :)

Vince Speranza is a living legend of one of the many members of the greatest generation. Most of them were just boys volunteering to go fight in a man's war and not only fight...but liberate much of the world from tyranny. I could listen to Vince tell stories all day. As a veteran, I never forget the American fighting men of the past that sacrifiec so much and paved the way for future generations like me to serve. It would be an honor and a priviladge to meet a man like Vince in person.
AMERICA !!!!!!!!! BIG SALUTE FROM ME TO THESE MEN..... WHILE THE WORLD SPINS THE NATION STOPS FOR THIS.
Thank you for your service
