This song on the Live at Perkins Palace video 82, is prob the best 5 mins you’ll see of Collins on the drums, at least in terms of appreciating how good he was. Back then was he was still a top drummer, he had his chops, and it was before he got dragged into the limelight with Live Aid, Films, Miami Vice and all the other distractions. All other video of him on the drums - with the odd exception of Fly on a Windshield 75/76 (Genesis) and some of the restored Genesis Lyceum Show (esp Los Endos) - either miss the really good stuff, have the wrong camera angle, or the camera doesn’t stay on what he is doing behind the kit, long enough to fully appreciate his skills. WOW! unespected video for me!
Brand X lineup this is the best!
I sincerely hope that some musical genius has written all this notation down so this music can be orchestrated at some future date.
so thankful this exists
I saw the ‘79 Brand X tour. Phil, and the rest of the band for that matter, were in top form.
do you have any footage, audio or picture of it?
Phil at his peak. As a player, up there with the other Ps.....Peart, Palmer Paice. And the two Bs.....Bonham and Bruford
.
Well young Sir you have excellent taste. Check out John Martyn another Phill Collins association and collaboration.
wadum badu man wadum bea mana
Sure I saw them in Nelson, Lancashire in the 1970s but the memory is fading now. If anyone can confirm they played there please do.
any audio, footage or picture of it?
1:57 Hidden startup/opening sound before it becomes a trend
Brand X was the best thing uncle Phil ever did......
JUST INCREDIBLY AMAZING
thank you so much for posting!
Brand X will be here in Cincinnati on Thursday.
No doubt Phil was a great drummer, his ghost notes alone are phenomenal... But can you ever truly trust a left handed drummer? 😉
Kudos for pointing that out - so important and a large part of phils style
Love the left handed drum kit. High drums on the right. Low ones on the left. Like piano keys. So as a keyboards guy, I always watched Phil with his "right way around" drums!🤣😂😅
Ya know I think I’ve heard of the Collins guy but I’m a bit more impressed by the skills of John Goodsall Percy on fretless and Lumley and Peter on keys. Just sayin they were a killer BAND period . John may be the mist underrated glitarist on the planet..see Fire Merchants.
As a singer.....started great and tailed off.
"...faster Phil..."
:D
Its called Jersulem Boogie.
"A little faster"...Lol!
