For a scenario no as you need to understand the current law which is loss of control. I think it is worth having an understanding of the changes from provocation for an essay though as it helps put the law of loss of control into perspective in terms of how it is better and where the law is stricter than it used to be - hopefully that makes sense. So I would learn some AO3 points on it for an essay but ignore it in a scenario
