    I found you a few months ago and have already learned so much. I have a juki 2000 on my 5 foot babylock frame and I successfully quilted a king size on it using your crazy 8s. When I am auditioning a new design I take a picture print it off in an 8x10 then slide it into a sheet protector and use a dry erase maker to do it. Now I plan on the plexiglass trick. I love all your oops tips and tricks.

    I do both a short stitch and a victory lap. It's worth the extra few minutes to keep my quilt stable.

    I have learned more from you in the 3 days since I found you than in the whole year I've been teaching myself to quilt. I don't have a long arm but I do have a 10ft inspira frame with a pfaff grand quilter. So not a ton of throat space but still much better than wrestling it on my piecing machine. But you've answered so many questions I've had. Watching someone quilt in real time and solving problems I've run into and not had anyone to go to for answers has been so helpful. And your designs seem so accessible. I feel like I can try more than a loopy meander now. I could go on and on about everything you've taught me. Thank you so much.

      Noted! But also please understand that teaching the designs in detail is how I make my living, so on UA-cam I freely share many things, but some material is reserved for paid classes. I try to strike a balance ❤️

      @@StitchedBySusan I think I would enjoy a long arm for that reason....I have troubles on my domestic, probably because of space. Just wish the long arms weren't so pricey.

      @@PWallace23 I hear you. If you really want one, keep an eye out for used ones. Occasionally they come available at great prices. Longarm University has a great list on their website, and there’s a Facebook group for used machines as well.

    I am really glad that you chose to keep the petals "open" ... the flower, to me, looks like it is crocheted, and I was hoping you would opt to leave the petals open. HOORAY! You showed how an open design remains open.
    I enjoy watching how we can see how your design develops as you go along.
    I remember being so excited about the loop-tee-loop "happened" when I was getting acquainted with my quilting machine/frame ... the loop that has the thread almost doubling back on itself, versus a loop that just sort of sits on a line. I have always followed patterns and to suddenly find myself "discovering" something new was a bit of a marvel to me.
    You are correct when you counsel us to just start doing something because like learning handwriting, quilting happens by practice and our individuality begins to show up if we will but TRY something.

    I have never basted a quilt, but having been watching various videos over the course of the last few days, I have to agree that basting can make a BIG difference in controlling a quilt (and, compensating for less than perfect piecing).

    • @StitchedBySusan
      @StitchedBySusan  2 роки тому

      Oh yes, I HIGHLY recommend basting each quilting pass as you go. It makes a world of difference in keeping squareness and straight edges.

    Love the advice that you don't HAVE to doodle. Everywhere else says just to doodle all the time, but I get so discouraged since I'm not very good. I also prefer to work through problems on the fabric.

    I have an innova. the backing is supposed to go on what you call the belly bar. I float as well but I don't attach my backing to the"belly" bar, I roll backing on the bar that is supposed to be for the quilt top to roll on. that way I can use magnets. If that makes sense.
    also, I use an extra length of snapper with a dowel that has stretchy cording on each end. sooo easy to use this for the side clamps. they basically look like the snapper side clamps but way easier for me to attach! and with the yard stick, it is never in the way of my longarm

    • @StitchedBySusan
      @StitchedBySusan  2 роки тому

      I do the same thing with my belly bar and roller for the backing. Those are just “suggested” uses, right? And I’m going to give the side clamps a try - thanks for the idea!
