    I believe this episode is when I fell in love with your channel. Listening to Rich go on and on about the stove made me believe I was going to be able to relate to you in a way others could not. I currently am on episode 30ish. I am going back over them to make sure I gave a thumbs up. When I started watching them I felt too busy to comment on them whole heartedly, but now things are slowing down for me. So thanks.

    I was wondering now long your narrowboat was....your new boat gave you almost a other room..yeah.. my late husband used to do stone platforms and surrounds for wood stoves..I am glad you got that fixed so that it would be safer..thanks for a lovely vlog.

    You're spot on in the pronunciation of "winding hole". Back in the days of horse-drawn narrow boats (with a space), they would use the wind to help turn the boat, thus winding. Fun vlog. Please keep them coming!

      By the way, I used the term "narrow boats" to refer to the old working boats. The one word term "narrowboat" is properly used to describe house boats, such as yours. At least, that's what seems to be the custom. Realize that your getting this information from an American gongoozler! :-)

    Lovely scarf Mr. Fran did a good job there Rich. Must be love. That’s what I’d like Lynne to do. Rent our bungalow could be a good idea. I already rent my flat out. Need to sell the caravan too. Don’t blame you for not being excited regarding the completion of the cottage. Thinking of changing the boat already? Lol....good idea sorting out the heat displacement from the stove, really pleased it went according to plan. Unbelievable having an old pullover stopping the boat in its tracks. Live a learn eh?

    Hint for staying warm when the stove is not working heat a couple of bricks on the gas cooker wrap in a towel and place in bed just like the old days when your parents heated up stones to keep the kids warm at night in bed. But in the old days they put the stones in the fire to heat them up them pulled them out and warped them up in old clothes or towels to warm your feet on. Most economical way to heat the bricks/stones is in the oven so you don't uses as much fuel for a few hours.

So you actually lived on a boat as a child with your parents? Must be different when you’re responsible for it all , as a child it must have just been fun and games. Love the weaving, beautiful scarf, that will keep you warm and look spiffy as well. Happy sailing. 🙋🏼

    OMG..... we have just watched your dog jump over the side!!!! Oh no.... another scary moment!!! I know its a while ago now but I must ask.... did the toe heal ok and how do you now prevent the dog from dashing out ?? When we get a boat do we need to think about a child's safety gate ???? Our dog is a Cavalier and I dont even knows if he can swim!!!! When we go looking for a boat we will have lots of things to look for but the top question will probably be about our dog safetly..... lol xx

    Love the videos. I see you’ve got two isolation valves on the stove. This is bad as if you turn them off and light the fire, there is nowhere for the water to expand. At the very least, take the handles off just in case you have children on board who might find them fun to turn.

    Cruising the Cut found on his stove enclosure ceramic tiles and putting his hand in the back side of the wood the tiles were mounted to he removed the tiles and I had suggested he used what hot rodders use which is a silver tape that he cut to length and covered the area formerly covered by the tiles. After he applied the Heat insulating tape and relit the stove he put his hand on the same spot that was hot as hell and it was cold as ice. Some people complained about how it looks but CTC says I don't care what it looks like it's much safer than it was before.
    The heat insulating tape looks like and goes on like duck tape but at car shows you commonly see it wrapped around exhaust pipes to reduce heating up the firewall.
    CTC has a video on the discovery of the amount of heat he discovered being transferred to the surrounding wood through the tiles.

    This CTC video will save you from hiring a specialist.

    Nice to see narrowboat vloggers travelling with their dogs - we have four and we can't imagine life without them. It's one of the reasons we got a boat, we never have to leave them behind. One question though - how do you manage to get your dogs to allow you to sleep in until 9:30?

    My brother and I just found your vids and really like them. We are Texans, and find narrowboating fascinating. We don't understand how y'all let the incompetent stove installation go without registering a complaint with the installer. Then there is the insufficient survey. Aren't they licensed? How can anyone have confidence in their purchase if they are not?

    How do your radiators work off of your wood burner? Do you have a pump or is it a gravity system. My partners asking lol.

    • @FloatingOurBoat
      @FloatingOurBoat  4 роки тому

      Hi Emma. Everything is simple on this boat, so no pump just gravity fed. We do have a big pipe coming out of the fire and running at an angle along the side of the boat to enable this, but we quite like the look of it and nothing can go wrong!
