Great explanation.
I have been a mechanic for over 40 years and I would like to add that oil and filters are cheap. Engines are not cheap. Good preventative maintenance goes a long way. (My opinion)
Thank you and great tip!
I just did the first oil change on my ‘22 FishPro today at 24 hrs. Not so much for the hours but I’m almost at six months. If you do it exactly as Seadoo says, you’ll get the full 3.5 qts of old oil out. The West Marine 7qt manual oil extractor is a wonderful thing.
I have a jet boat with twin ace 300 engines, Scarab recommended oil change is at 50 hours but dealers always recommend after 10 hours you change oil, oil filter. As was already mentioned it's cheap insurance comparative to premature engine wear.
I plan on doing the exact same thing on my Sea-Doo.
Good information. My sister and I just hit 12hrs on our 2024 sea doos. I'm going to do a flush like you mentioned.
Talking with Yamaha mechanics, they said that the factory puts break in oil in the engine. After ten hours, do an oil change to normal oil and a filter. The break in oil is designed just for the break in period. Once you change it out, it's back to 50 hours for every change. In the old days that's how hot rodders used to break in their engines. When we had all kinds of things in oil that we don't have today. I'm at three hours on both my FX Cruisers, and I will change the oil myself at ten or so. I'll take it to a dealer for valve adjustment at 100 hours, if I don't do that myself, too.
Good input.
Back when Sea-Doo required the 10hr service it was a great opportunity for GOOD dealers to catch problems early. Check the carbon ring, all hose clamps, plug into BUDS, etc. I did it on our new Switch, it needs software updates anyway 👍
Great point!
Spot on! Well done!!
Glad you liked it!
Hey man…… nice channel, you know your jet skis. Got a question…… bought a Seadoo GTX 230 and it’s in KPH……. How do I change to MpH? Do I have to take it to a dealer to change? Thanks.
Just put 10 hours on my new 2023 Rpx 300. Heading to a shop tomorrow to get its first oil change.
Just picked my 23 fish pro trophy up, 10 hours I will be changing the oil. The Seadoo engine is nothing like small engines but small engine manufacturers suggest changing after several hours. Must be something to it?
I’d love to change the oil in my Yamaha, but for the second year in a row they canceled my order for both of my skis, looks like I just became a seadoo customer
This may be a dumb question....but, I have to ask....Do this apply to non-supercharged Seadoos as well?
It’s not nearly as crucial but the coated sleeves of the ACE engine sluff off material too. BRP recommends 50 hours, which seems to ignore this issue.
2023 gets 170 here. I’m only at about 5 hours. I’ve read the top speed of the ski should be 58-60 mph. As of now, I’m getting maaayyyybe 52. Is that because the break in period?
I did the 10 hour on my 21 GTX L. The best answer in my opinion is a question. Why not do it? It won't hurt.
Nope, not at all.
I just changed the oil in my girlfriends 22 rxt300, ski was at 12 hrs! The oil looked terrible! Was really glad i did it!!
Yikes! Make sure you also install a catch can - it’ll help!
@@watercraftjournal yeah that was the very first thing i added when we brought it home, quick question, the oil filter cap, is it supposed to have a little gap when installed and tightened down? Didnt notice what it looked like before, there is no leaks rode it a day ago and is fine!
Hmm... It really should seal flush.
It doesn’t sit flush, there is a small gap
Have you ever used Valvoline VR1 oil in your skis?
No, but I use it religiously in my big block Mopars.
Can I use full synthetic engine oil in my 2024 seadoo GTX limited 300 ?
Definitely going to do a 10hr service, that is….if the missing parts for my GTX Limited ever come in and I get the damn thing lol!
Oh jeez, that sucks.
At the end of the season lets say It is time to change the oil. Would you recommend changing the oil so the new oil sits in the engine during winter or should I put the new oil in at the beginning of the new season? The manual says 50hr/ once a year. On a side note the Sand docker is amazing thank you for the recommendation on your other video.
I doesn't matter when. Typically shops will recommend doing it before the spring season ( fall season ) when the shops aren't as busy.
That question can be debated either way. In my opinion as a past boat mechanic, we used to recommend to our customers to change oil before winter storage to get out contamination, acids, combustion by-product,etc before it sits for 8 months during storage. Always do what the manufacturer and or dealer recommends because you don’t want a warranty dispute if there is ever a catastrophic failure.
I tend to agree with Dre on this one. I don't like the idea of contaminants (unspent fuel, carbon, etc.) marinating in your bearings over the winter. -K
@@watercraftjournal I misread Dre’s comment. And agree with Dre as well.
All I saw was spring season and interpreted their statement backwards. Spring vs. fall.
I personally would recommend the oil change in the fall before storage.
Even though we were busy both in the fall with winterizations and busy in the spring with recommissioning service.
Key thing is to read owner’s manual and do the proper services when required. I always wish customers would read them. Saves a lot of problems for the customer.
Deff at the end of the season before winter. You don’t want that old contaminated oil sitting in your engine all winter. Clean fresh oil is better for storage and won’t be all gunked up.
Seadoo rxp 300 recommend to change oil every 10h?
And what about turbo charger 70-80h?
There's no turbo.
Do you recommend a 10 hour change for a 22 Yamaha 310 Ultra? Asking for a friend.
LOL - no, just the Kawasaki Rotax SVHO.
What I would like to know if sea doo has a break in oil that they put in at the factory.and if they do your better off doing what they recommend.
The Rotax engines are not "bench broken" like the Yamahas and Kawis.
I have a fish pro 2021 running 168 hours.. Every how many hours need to change oil engine?
See your manual
Is'nt that what Sea Doo calls for after break in?
just change the filter after 10 hours then oil change in 50 hours ??
Good point.
Yup!
How about for yamaha?
same thing for all 4 stroke engines
No. They do not have plasma coated sleeves, nor do they suffer the same blow-by issues. Yamaha engines are "bench broken" prior to installation at the plant.
Is it REQUIRED to have this 10 hour oil change be done by a dealer. I am completely capable of getting the kit and doing it myself. If I document with photos and kit receipts will I have any issues?
No. Again you and many others perform their own service if they so choose.
Eighth like still good!
LOL!
I think this applies to all piston engines. I was advised to change the oil on my new car engine at 50 miles. I look at it as cheap insurance.
Nope. I have never changed the oil EVER in my personal PWCs. 2 smokes FTW!
You're exempt, Paul.
@@paullinkins8121What do you mean? You change the oil every time you put gas in it 😅
I Agreed on that 100%
Appreciated!
I watched videos of oil changes and they drain the oil out then turn it over for 10 seconds to get more oil out dont that hurt the motor
Operating an engine with ZERO oil pressure is not a preferable way.
@@watercraftjournal I gess if you hold the gas in and turn it over its in a special mode that it's OK to turn it over to get the oil outbof the pockets to suck out
Or you could do what I suggest which is what engine builders do. But y'know, whatever. -K
If you have 7.5 hrs on the gti 170 and put it in sport mode and drive it 40 45 is that to soon to do that thanks
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Yup!
Yamaha recommends a 10 hour oil change, and trust me, the shit looks like a bad cup of coffee. No viscosity, black as hell. Almost like Kerosene. But it’s there for a purpose to let things wear in. Years ago Chevrolet Corvettes came thru with Mobel 1 from the factory. People were bitchin they blew though a quart every 3K . Why synthetic oil was not letting piston rings to seat causing blow by. So! Break it in properly and get that stuff out.
Yup! We're not taking crazy pills over here.
Do the oil change at 10 hrs. The inside of that engine is nasty. My filter had all kinds on crap. Brass and all from the idf dog gear.
YIKES! That's not normal.
@@watercraftjournal thats probably why its getting a new motor in it on them only has 140 hrs. O well im not paying for and the warranty on it starts over another 3 years.
"First like " great vid
Appreciate it
Yeah hard pass. I'll stick to the yammy manual, no matter what I ride. Even cars. Max 1k km, then, oil change. Same same.
This DOESN'T apply to Yamahas.
@@watercraftjournal I know. I was making a joke because Yamaha recommend first oil change at 10hrs. Surprisingly on both the SVHO and TR1. Not sure about HO but I imagine it's the same. I agree though. 50hrs is a bit long for the reasons you stated. I have a friend with a 21' fishpro at around 30hrs, we had this exact discussion a couple of days ago. He wants to stick to the manual though.🤷♂️
old video.
Old topic. New video. (And don't be a prick about it.)
