They're trying. If there was another debate and he did okay, they'd alter their tune. But they're reframing it away from the core issue. Presidents are needed to make decisions and sometimes act quickly. They couldn't get Joe coherent with advance warning, then he's unfit for the job NOW. They can play games around Trump, but if keeping out the other guy and periodically having moments of semi-coherence is enough, then they could justify putting a full-blown dementia patient into the job.
Most people are either lucid, or could after minutes with the aid of a coffee. But for all we know, they had to rest up and maybe even dose Joe to get this out of him.

It makes me most uneasy seeing an elderly person being put in this situation - it appears humiliating and cruel (I am Brit so I am neutral). I know Biden is the POTUS and it's his choice to run, but to me it looks like he's being exploited when he should be protected. His family, advisors and party are failing him and the country if he is not fit and able to lead.

The mental competence of Biden goes beyond “I wanna run again/we will nominate him” to this man is not able to focus hard enough to even get a full sentence out coherently. This is beyond the Democratic Party, this is a national issue that needs to be dealt with. Biden needs to step down from running again as we have watched him degrade slowly in 4 years. At least the last debate in 2020 he could hold his ground. Any citizen should be concerned with how little Biden has been seen too in the last year vs the previous presidents.

I'm a swing voter. I voted Blue most of my life and more recently Red a couple times due to certain, specific issues I feel strongly on. And there is no way in hell I'd ever vote for Trump. He's a convicted criminal, traitor to the country, and can't be trusted with the nuclear football. The rest of the ticket I'll decide on a case by case basis. I do think there could be a better choice for the Dems. It sucks that Biden was made the nominee by the Dems before my state got to vote in the primary to appease a technicality in another state. Shameful. Completely took away our vote out from under us. I'm still a registered Democrat and am pissed about that.

If they had been lying about his condition, they would have figured out a way for him to answer questions in as simple language as possible. What you hear is a policy wonk who can no longer articulate quantities and figures.
