This video is criminally underrated. For me, it does not get any better than this. And if I had been anywhere near Dallas during this reading, I would have been there despite not having a ticket to the show in my pocket. I would’ve been there in real Dickens fashion. Mircea is right now the greatest writer alive. Sean Cotter I don’t know how he translates Mircea so clearly and transparently as to leave the writing completely intact after translation. Books have always reassured me that magic exists. And these two clearly have magical powers.

Currently reading this book. I’m an avid reader of Central and Eastern European literature and those languages and English are incredibly polarizing. For an achievement such as this book, the translator is as much to thank as the original author. Good prose doesn’t bleed through to different languages, every word is chosen from thin air by the translator.

Incredible book. Fantastic and fascinating interview. Insightful to hear from Mircea and his process. Beautiful. Thanks so much for posting this.

The biggest bummer about reading Cartarescu in english is the realization that only three of his books are translated 😢

Wow. I did not know this. I read him in Spanish and there is plenty to read from him. After Solenoid he became one of those writers that I would read anything I can find. Solenoid was a wonderful surprise for me.

A translator first to enter the culture from which is the author...
