- We keep going with Epica live performance of long songs. This time it's the haunting "Serenade of Self-Destruction", once again from the epic 10th anniversary show Retrospect. And it leaves us kinda floored.

The more I watch and listen to Epica, the more I love this band! Keep the Epica reactions coming guys!!! 🤘
They are EPIC! We definitely will keep it coming. 2 more already filmed. Have you seen the one we did for the Masters of Rock performance? / George

@@fritsyt2090 Hi there. :-)
@@Immortall1408 Hey friend! :-)
Yes this song is from 2012 Requim for the Indifference. As I recall some people found this album too ' proggy' and too complex and the mix was too 'raw'. I had no problem with the proggy style though. I understand what people said about the production/ mix but it did not bother me at all.
To me it's a very good album.
Simon Oberender was also involved in this album. So I can understand that songs from this album might remember the Epica members to the sad days of his passing. He commited suicide.
I never really understood what they meant by the mix being "too raw" I mean it was very different from Design Your Universe album, but there were still Epica´s basic ingredients in it. This is a nice tribute to Simon from touring with Trillium - ua-cam.com/video/j1ZU3DEmuCw/v-deo.html
@Jaap Blaauw Thanks for the info. I knew Requiem was a bit of a divisive album for them. Haven't heard the full thing but I know a few songs and I can see your point about the proggyness and mix. And it's terrible to hear that he committed suicide. It never gets easy to hear this sort of stuff! / George
My 2nd fav Epica song, just behind Kingdom p1 :)
Kingdom part 1 is amazing, might be my favourite but I'm undecided. /Andrei
Simon Oberender was a keyboardist and a guitarist who had worked a lot with Sascha Paeth in his studio in Wolfsburg, Germany. And as such he was also involved in making of three Epica´s albums and one MaYaN´s album. Unfortunately, he passed away in 2012 just after they had finished recording of "Requiem for the Indifferent" and this song is from that album. He was only 29. He focused on engineering and mastering a lot as far as I remember. He was also involved in recording of albums by Kamelot and Avantasia, for instance. He was also the keyboadist for the first album by Trillium, in which Amanda Somerville is the vocalist.
Thanks for the info, sounds like he was a very important character in the symphonic/power metal scene. Sad he passed at such a young age. I know Sascha Paeth is quite the genius, he produces the albums of Seven Spires (and Avantasia and many others of course) who are one of my favourite up and coming bands. See our previous video to check them out if you don't know them. Their singer was also in his project Sascha Paeth's Masters of Ceremony. Never heard of Trilium but I know about Amanda Somerville, she's amazing as well. /Andrei
@@thewindmillfullovcorpses He definitely contributed to making of some serious gems. :-) And engineering skills are vital for survival of any music production. So, it is really cool of Epica that they paid him homage this way. I know about Adrienne Cowan and her various involvements. There is the Heart Healer project, as well. I am really happy that I was able to see Avantasia with all three of their female singers - Amanda Somerville, Marina La Torraca and Adrienne Cowan. Amanda and Marina are both in Exit Eden. Do you know Marina? Everything is so interconnected as Amanda´s Trillium and Marina´s Phantom Elita are two bands for which music is written by Sander Gommans. I also like Amanda´s duets with Michael Kiske. If you were interested in hearing any of it, let me know. ;-)
Loved your reaction!! Still in awe about Simone doing such a huge and long show, when she was early in her pregnancy ( our kids were born on the same day). I myself watched it live from home, since I was too tired and nauseous to be there live and headbang along with everyone.
Yooo that's so cool to hear. The corpses congratulate you congratulationistically (yes it's a word)! I'm sure your kids turned to be epic peoples! And Simone sure handled the whole thing with utmost class from what we've seen thus far! / George
You guys are amazing!
Thanks a ton! /Andrei

I re-watched this show yesterday, and re-visiting this amazing track was great.
It's usually pretty buried in the least liked album, but the show contains some of the best tracks of Requiem... since it was the last album at that point
The opener of the album and the show Monopoly on Truth is a banger, you should watch it (also include the beautiful intro Introspect)
Writing this down. The opening of the show sounds like something I should reaaaaaally enjoy! /Andrei
RFTI just super duper album, the fastest album, so many song that arien was the fastest drummer of symphonic metal band i think
Chris Dovas - Seven Spires! Much faster! Check out the song This God is Dead. But yeah, Arjen is mad technical as well! /Andrei
Mortification =terminal determination

Thank you very much! We already know that one so I doubt we can do a proper reaction to it, but it is one of the best live Epica videos I know, /Andrei
