Junji Ito fan here 👍 His work is definitely not for everyone. I personally started with his short story anthology "Shiver". Because of the short length of the stories, it never felt overwhelming. His work "Uzumaki" is an absolute masterpiece. It is simultaneously beautiful and terrifying. I can't recommend it enough for anyone interested.
Im a junji ito fan and personally like your friends said, i think remina isnt the best one to start with, im really not a fan of Remina, i think its one of his weakest stories. Only because the main character didnt feel like a main character, she was like a filler, hes done that before with another female character in GYO, only difference is she isnt a main character but was also just a filler to progress the story. So even as a fan his stories can be a hit or miss and everyone has different taste so every fan has a different opinion on what is his best and worst stories.
