Hi Julie, I love your giftedness for learning new things, you are really inspirational!! Just wanted to point out something I noticed in your Babbel ad, you used the familiar form of “you” speaking to the Italian lady (“te”) rather than the polite form (“lei”). She will still get the meaning of what you say of course, but the familiar is for peers and younger family members only, if I remember correctly! Might be a tip that helps you get the most out of your time In Italia. Keep up the great work, I love your videos! A fan in Ireland xx
I agree with Nestor and Julie, upcycling the tree you already have is a lot better than chopping down another tree, especially one so tall that you won't even use most of it. With as much land as you have you should plant and upkeep a Christmas tree grove, so you don't have to cut down such a large tree just for the top bit.
Yes, 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 😊great thought NESTOR...I AM WITH YOU ON THAT EXECUTIVE 👍 👏 😀 DECISION..❤❤❤❤GOOD ...AWESOME.. go wild ,,julie.. Ty LUKE for saving the gorgeous tree . Glad yall didnt cut it down..ty for the world.
I know this may come as a shock but I live in Wisconsin and I know what a swag is. To make nature feel better chop down 1 tree and plant 5 fir and 5 spruce. That will ensure a choice of tree for years, and your great grandchildren. It will be a splendid tree. May your family have a wonderful holiday season.
How beautiful Mapperton is at Christmas! Julie I hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas filled with lots of family and food and holiday cheer.❤️💚❤️💚
The door decorations look equally amazing. It's hard to choose which one is the best. I like the idea of using one's own creativity and natural materials. Beauty and Christmas magic from Julie's hands. ✨️🎄❤️
When you were filmed saying you had hurt your eye, you were covering your R eye, then when you were washing it out, it was the L eye!! Too funny:). Love your videos, love the tree. MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU ALL:)
Hooray, Nestor, for making the right decision about the tree - use one that you already have! As a person who lives in one of the premier Christmas tree growing counties of the US, a fresh Fraser fir is a wonderful tree - very aromatic. This area often produces the tree that goes in the White House. Merry Christmas to everyone at Mapperton, and to all who are part of this online community!
The tree looks GORGEOUS in the room!!! Glad you didn’t cut the other one just to use the top! 😱 Mapperton is starting to look like Christmas!! Wishing all of you a wonderful holiday! Love from Pennsylvania 💕🌷🐻
I’m so glad you guys reused the other tree. I was cringing and ready to fast forward the other tree coming down. It was just too big and grand to bring down for a short term use. 🌲
Have you thought of planting evergreen trees on a corner of your property?? Could be a new venture mapperton Christmas tree farm. Will take a few years. Christmas market and tree farm and go home with a Christmas tree. Not that you need more on your plate lol. Ok happy holidays from NYC
I am all for taking down the trees that are not straight! Especially the ones that are leaning and probably would damage others if they fall. If you cleared the ones that are not good you can make room for ones that can grow straighter and prettier. You need to plant more spruce in Christmas trees in your real wilding program for the future. I love what you’re doing to help the environment and bring back all that was good that was taken
Hello Julie, here from Michigan, i can't remeber what my granny called it, but it was different from the name swag, but she would send my cousin, and 3 siblings out to collect the bits to make these, plus a couple wreaths. My granny grew up in the depression, waited 4 year's while my grandpa fought in wwll, so she was very crafty. My grand parent's lived in an old farm house with a wrap around porch, and the original furnace that burned 4 to 5 foot logs to heat up the boiler and radiators. We helped make the Christmas decorations, and she would place them over the fireplace not being used, and the two door ways. I enjoy all the thing's you dabble into, most people don't have the confidence to wear different hats, but some of us do, because we were raised that way, or just have that curiosity to try. G-d bless you, Luke, and the rest of the family, and Merry Christmas.
@DarrinsDaffs, she didn't call it garland, because she had us decorate a pine tree cut down on the farm with 50 year old garland. My granny saved everything, she had a whole room we called the junk room that was pretty full of all the stuff she saved over the year's. I get frustrated with my memory, because i have brain volume loss because i have progressive MS, which has also caused muscle wasting and weakness on my entire left side. The muscles on my left side are less than half the size as my right side. I'll probably think of what she called it next week, or not, but i don't try to dwell on my situation, because it is what it is. Have a Good Christmas and new year. G-d bless.
Oh my gosh I LOVED this video! Your wreath and swags look sooooooo nice! Each year you get better and better. And the staircase with the dried hydrangea blossoms was absolutely beautiful! This is the perfect backdrop for holiday family photos. Merry Christmas!
I so enjoy your Christmas preparation video! It’s an annual tradition and you are getting better and better every year with your wreath and swag making Julie! You have become quite the professional. Also, I love the vases with the greenery, what a nice addition to the holiday decorations. I hope your eye is doing well, you have to be careful that’s for sure. Mapperton Is truly a special place. I was thinking that would be fun to see the Hinchingbrooke’s have a toasted/grilled cheese making competition rematch! Lol You and Luke are always so good together I wish you and all of your family a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy 2025!
Julie I love the hydrangeas in your stairs, creation garlands, such a lovely addition. Cell Great job on recycling the tree. Your touches around the castle is beautifully done. your Italian meal looks yummy.❤❤❤
Nester is a smart young man use the one you have💙 Julie the decorative swags and Ivey on the stair railing was lovely I loved the tree as well great job. Merry Christmas ❤
That’s a unique tree stand with the roots. I think I would have put the stand on the tree skirt instead of hiding the stand since it looks like a real tree root base. Thanks for bringing us along on this channel!
My neighbor has a maple tree in the front yard that has been taken over by ivy and it has grown almost to the very top. The tree is at least forty feet tall and there are many branches dying off. It will eventually kill the whole tree.
I read somewhere that ivy does not kill trees. Will have to do more research..... In Tennessee there are groves of trees covered in it, and the trees are fine. I am not from Tennessee by the way--just saw it whilst visiting.
@@DariaAmato-wz2xg Some tree stands don't hold water. These old manor houses are cooler than most modern homes. Trees don't dry out as much if they aren't in the house too long.
The tree is lovely. The beautiful staircase wow well done. Cooking tip… toss those pepper flakes in when onions and garlic are just finished sautéed by does this the flakes pop open and permeate and WOW a whole different flavor on your palate just don’t burn them. Lovely video again ❤ thank you ☺️.
Love the soup dinner😊yummy..put lots of fresh grated romano on it.. Ty for saving a tree.. HAPPY HOLIDAYS &MERRY CHRISTmas To y'all...and ur staff 😊and the rest of the 🌎....happy 2025 🎉❤
Way to go Nestor, Luke it's great your asking Nestor and then abiding by his decision (of course it might have been what you wanted all along) 😉 Julie, your wreath is fantastic. Hopefully you'll remember not to put your fingers on your face when handling chilies. So sorry you had to learn the hard way.
Yes was good call on the Christmas tree 🎄 I enjoy seeing you decorate with natural stuff you have around the property hope to see it all when your done decorating ❤
Julie here is an idea for next year- I gave a Victorian Christmas ornaments workshop for teens which included silver painting pinecones then dripping glue, then rolling them in a plate of glitter. Tie a ribbon around the first row of the cone and Voila! They make beautiful additions for both wreaths and the tree as well as a lovely ornament gift for guests. Its an idea... Christmas Cheer! 🎄
Perhaps after your incident with your eye a proper eyewash station should be installed and hooked up to the mains water supply in that kitchen. It doesn't need to be a full safety shower just a basin type to wash out the eyes.
#2 wreath was my favorite, love the variegated leaves for additional interest. The Entrance Hall looks beautiful and so festive! Sorry about the chile oil in your eye, I could almost feel the pain from across the internet! Love the addition of a dried hydrangea on a swag,I have to borrow that idea! Also, the staircase is stunning, the woodwork detail is one of the most beautiful I’ve ever seen. The strands of ivy and your additions are such a festive addition, I’d hate to have to tear it all down. Luke, well done dragging the tree inside the house. It is a beautiful, magnificent tree, regardless of what type of tree it is, because, now I’m confused, as well!!🎄
I think I would have put that pretty tree stand on top of the skirt. The skirts purpose it to hide the usually ugly stand and catch falling needles. No need to hide that beauty! Your swags are lovely! You might want to look up “tomato tape” or maybe “florist tape.” I use it for tying up tomatoes, but it would be perfect for making swags. Way easier than tying knots w/string. Oh those gift bags are fab! 🌲 🎀
I'm just a bit envious of all the greenery you have available at this time of year. My sister-in-law makes balsam wreaths every year which is the traditional Maine decorative greenery.
You're also speaking slower. I'm wondering if it's because you speak so many languages now. Merry Christmas. Your decorations look beautiful. You are one of the hardest workers.

A lot number one with a great big pine cone in it
I always thought all firs were any pine, so I looked it up.
Fir and spruce trees can be distinguished by their needles, bark, and cones:
Needles
Fir needles are soft, flat, and attached individually to the branches. Spruce needles are sharp, pointed, and square, and are attached to small, stalk-like woody projections.
Bark
Fir bark is smooth and grayish when young, but develops a furrowed appearance as it ages. Spruce bark is rough to touch and becomes furrowed and scaly with age.
Cones
Fir cones stay upright on the branch and shed and crumble while attached to the tree. Spruce and pine cones hang downwards once they've reached maturity.
Here are some other differences between fir and spruce trees:
Shape
Firs have a symmetrical shape with dense branches. Spruces have a conical form with whorled branches.
Size
Douglas-firs can be medium-size to extremely large, reaching heights of 20-100 meters (70-330 feet). Spruces commonly grow to a height of 60-90 feet.
Habitat
Douglas fir forests can be found throughout the western United States. Spruces prefer a shady habitat, such as a grassy woodland or a dry peaty blueberry forest.
Smell
Some say that a fir or spruce has a more woodsy scent, while a pine has a more resinous, pitchy smell.
Oh please cut down all dead trees! It helps keep down the ivy too! The woods get more dappled light and they’re healthier & happier! Leave a log laying here & there for animal burrows!
I Like 1. :) nicely done!
Beautiful tree❤
Thank you! 🤗
