Thanks for all the useful hints and tips, especially the black blacks and whites for the chalk sticks. I love your tutorials and want to say a BIG thank you for sharing with novices like me!
Watching you work is inspiring! Also-thanks for the tip about the Cretacolor Black Chalk Leads and White-oddly enough, I have a couple of these from a set I bought and have never used...now I am going to use them!
I have been able to sharpen the Faber Castell Pitt Pastels to a needlepoint tip. I have been using a helical electric sharpener for all my different types of pencils. I haven't had a breakage problem with this type of sharpener even with the Prismacolor Premier pencils.
Thank you so much for this brilliant video, Jason! 🌟 Your info about gouache, the differense between Pastelmat colours and the CRETACOLOR was really good for me! 🤩 Your are amazing! 🙏🎨
I love the lessons and learn soooo much, my only complaint is the sound ,it's so soft I have difficulty hearing what is being said ,but when an add.comes on it is perfect ,thank you .
As usual, a great video! Have you used the Pastelmat Board? If so, so you find much difference between the two? Also, have you used the Cretacolor white chalk sticks? If so, do you find them whiter that other white pencils/sticks?
Thank you Jason. I tried Pastels for the first time following your Tiger past 1 and I LOVED it and did really well. I used the CarbOthello pastels. The only thing was the whiskers weren't as defined as I would have liked. Would the Cretacolor white be better or is there another that does good whiskers?
@@wildlifeartjm If you use an acrylic primer under oil paints, wouldn't gouache serve the same purpose under pastels? Have you tried black acrylic primer under pastels?
Thank you for your sharing. … please…if you could clarify… do you use guache for underlaying for darkest areas only? Then only black guache? And how do you sharp Cretacolor chalk leads?
And you are such an excellent artist....Your work is very beautiful!!!!!!
Thanks for your advise
Beautiful! I love the big cats the best.

Super interesting and useful, thank you!! Do you always use blue in animal eyes or there was a blue reflexion in this particular one?
Thank you for that , there was so much useful advice

Thank you for the advice regarding basic materials.Your videos are all I have to learn from since your Patreon Channel is out of reach for me
Thanks so much Jason. Your videos are so informative. I particularly appreciated the info on Cretacolor - I will definitely try to get some. Cheers

For some of the minute details where a super sharp tip is needed, some artists use a color pencil on top. What do you think of that as an option?
i show that in some of my videos - i use it only for something like tiny black hairs in a few places - nothing more.

I looked on Amazon USA for the cretacolor. I could find charcoal but not chalk. Same thing? Loved you video!
no must be chalk
Jason, thank you for the great video. Do you recommend Pastelmat over sanded paper? I can only afford one right now and I can't decide. Thank you.
yes 100%
Thanks!
Thanks for this video Jason, just wondering, does the use of gouache with the pastels then make the artwork a 'mixed media' piece?
yes i suppose so

@@shirleymalar304 some acrylics dry shiny or have a plastic feel that the pastel wont stick too - gouache dries perfectlymatt
What sharpener do you used for your pencils?
swordfish - i have plenty of videos on sharpening :)

And how do you sharp Cretacolor chalk leads?
yes. and with a small plastic hand held sharper - nery cheap.
So are the cretacolor leads the same as charcoal pencils?
darker
I just can't afford pastelmat for learning on.
I cut up pieces to do small studies
😮❤
Why don't you paint a Yorkshire dog. They are so difficult to draw all the layers.....I'm so sad!!!
