- Parental Care | Ecology and Environment | Biology | FuseSchool
Some animals have special behaviour with regards to rearing their young because they display parental care. This is where parents care for their young offspring which can include food and shelter or teaching their young how to survive.
The efforts put into parental care, reflect the time and energy parent put into rearing offspring. These effort are called parental investment. Some species, such as most egg laying reptiles, give no parental care. Just leaving their eggs to hatch and the offspring to fend for themselves. However, some species, provide an extended parental care.
