    I was a die-hard Knicks fan during the years Dave Cowens played. Cowens, like Willis Reed , was an undersized player at the Center position. I used to love the battles between the two teams. I especially loved Cowens and understood how lucky the Boston fans were. One of my favorite all-time players. Left it all out on the court each and every night, with talent. Played the age the way it was meant to be played.

    Grew up a Knick fan in Queens NY and the when the Knicks played the Celtics in the playoffs in the early 70's it was epic. I used to listen to all the home games on the radio because they were blacked out on TV in those days. Those were the days when the Garden really rocked. Celtics were a dangerous team. Always went seven games.

Bob was ahead of his time and could do a little or a lot of everything. Great scorer , rebounder and shot a great percentage from the field and the line. I bought albums from Lenny Bruce, Richard Pryor, George Carlin, Red Foxx and Cheech and Chong when I was young. You could say those things in the 70s but will lose your career if you say those things today. Shane Gillis, Louis CK, Aziz Ansari and Jim Jeffries are among many comedians who have suffered career penalties for comments they made that would have been seen as hysterically funny in the 70s and 80s. Are you seriously telling me that Eddie Murphy could do "Raw" today without being cancelled?

    I saw all of Dave Cowen's career, and he was one of my favorite players (saying a lot, since I was a Laker's fan).
    I never saw Bob Petit, but having learned about him, he was a truly great superstar player. His Hawks were the only team to beat Russell's Celtics in the Finals, and also took them to a game 7 in the next Finals (losing by just 2 points). Petit led all players with 39 points in that game, also adding 19 rebounds.

      @tennsmoothie Місяць тому

      It wasn't a contract dispute. It was the '77 season and the Celts were defending champions. But his frontcourt mate, Paul Silas had been traded (one of Red's few mistakes) because he asked for more money than Red was willing to pay. He was replaced by the acquisition of Sidney Wicks and Curtis Rowe, two self-centered and decidedly un-Celtic type players. Dave missed Silas and I'm guessing didn't like playing with guys who put themselves ahead of the team. So he took a leave of absence mid-season for several weeks out of frustration. He eventually returned and Boston lost in 7 games to the Erving/McGinnis 76ers in the playoffs.
