Woodside-61 st Station Renovation Upgrades (Part 8) IRT Flushing Line Station Renovation Project

Many people wonder why the work at Woodside-61 st has been taking so long. The answer is that the entire structure in the center of the station holding up the local & express tracks, is very old and was in very very poor condition. Prior to this work, some minor work had been done over the past decade to patch these major structural defects, however the structure itself was compromised and was severely weaken. This work being done is a full scale replacement of the girders holding up all 3 tracks at Woodside-61 st. All the tracks at the center point of the station was held up by bricks & concrete. The plan is to replace all three tracks girders with new stronger steel to allow for a longer and more safer life to this station. Here is every thing that has happened from the beginning of Phase 2 (which started week 7 of the project) to week 51 about a year of the project.
