Perfect band; sexy female vocals, dual jangly guitar's, solid percussion section, all talented musicians, one of my favourite bands until 1/2 of them killed themselves... RIP Guys...
Punk/New Wave/Hard Rock combo; never any disco out of the Pretenders! Saw them in a small club in Upstate New York back in 1980 and they were incredible. Always wished Chrissie let JHS play longer jams; but they were a great great band!
149 Westchester Avenue Port Chester, NY is the location I think--NY. Police, among others played there. Love the look and sound of the venue. I was 13, would have loved to experience them!
This lineup is one of my top 5 bands. James Honeyman Scott's leads are wrenching and drag you right in. Martin Chambers so steady and on the beat with his groove. Pete Farndon, the iconic Bass Player, cool, keeping it real in the back, Chrissy Hynde, I mean in 1980 I was 15, and she was the queen of rock. The bad girl of rock was Wendy O Williams, who I would have sacrifice a finger to sleep with her. Lemmy got to.
Back in the day we called them New Wave/Punk. The Clash, Pistols, Elvis Costello, Johnny Thunders and Ramones were Punk and bands like the Pretenders, Blondie, Police and Talking Heads were called New Wave Punk by most of us buying their records and seeing them in concert. Many years later people started with all these other terms but back in the day bands with any punk in them were labeled either punk or new wave/punk. People got off the drugs and started thinking too much
are you kidding me 41 years ago .. love this band love this era .. was like yesterday .. soo good, nothing like it now !!
