Another excellent presentation. Thanks so much for getting me thinking about making Google Slides. I thought it would be difficult. Now I am excited to start making my own. You are very kind to share your knowledge and your time with us. Kudos to you!
When I search for images, I add the word "clipart" to the search. So for ham, I would type "ham clipart" and choose a cute image from that. Canva also has the "remove background" feature to get rid of the white space around pictures.
I have been approved to teach on Outschool. Yay! Now I have to put a class together. So... do you recommend using Google Slides over using PowerPoint? If so, I would love to see more on how to use Google Slides! Thanks for sharing! :)
Congratulations!!! I like Google slides because I like having everything in my google drive for convenience. I haven’t used power point in years but I would say use what you are comfortable with:) Thank you for your feedback!
This video was exactly what I was looking for! Thank you!! I never took the time to learn Google slides for VIPKID, but now I wanted to figure it out for Outschool. I've been teaching fine without it, but I'm starting to get into grammar classes and it would make the class so much better! Question: how does this work with Zoom? Do you have the Google slide open and share screen, or download to Zoom itself? Thank you for this!
If you have a paid version of Canva you can download your images with a transparent border. This would be especially beneficial for your letter cards (so you aren’t limited to a white background) and your logo. ☺️
Thanks for the suggestion! I do use canva for almost everything 😂 I actually used Canva for my letters but I like having a seamless color between the letters, so I don’t want borders for those, but I love the idea of putting borders around the pictures that I get from canva! I’m usually too lazy (busy?!) to add the borders🤣
Loved the video... I experimented with google slide the other day. You sold me on animation. Another question I have about Outschool teaching. My classes have been approved and they include a story (I have permission to read during an online classroom). Do you just hold the story book up to the camera? What is the best way to read a book?
Also, can you download the google slide presentation onto your computer so it runs from there and not the internet? Some days Google slides does not stay connected to the internet, it’s constantly reconnecting. That’s the last thing I need during a class.
I plan to do a lesson walkthrough with how I use my slides, but the short answer is to screen share and teach the slides how you want (play a game, thumbs up/thumbs down, individual turns, etc). Maybe our next zoom session needs to be on this?
MaryAnn Byrd that sounds like a great idea. I just need to practice with zoom and may be able to figure it out. I watched Brooke’s video today but she didn’t actually show how to insert them.
Thank you! This was helpful! I watched your other video about your mistake that actually turned out to help you get students the other day. I can’t remember if you said in that video or not... how long did it take you to start filling those sections up? Was it closer to the class starting?
Thank you! The ongoing classes began filling up much faster than the one-time for me! I’ve only been doing them for four weeks (this week) and my three sections stayed full and I was getting lots of requests for more times, so I now have 9 or 10 sections of that class running a week. They aren’t all full, but still 50-60 students a week I would say.
Thank you for this video! I was wondering if you have any issues with important parts of your slide presentation being obscured by your own face in the corner, or by learner's faces? It seems to be an issue for me.
@@bravenlygirlmaryann Yes, it fills the whole screen. I'm still just practicing, and my own face is covering words or parts of pictures. I'm practicing with people later today, so maybe it isn't an issue then?
I haven’t had that issue, but I do constantly move the squares (our faces) around the screen so I can see what I need to see... but it doesn’t affect what the kids see:)
I didn’t quite understand what you used Canva for. I’ve used Canva to make my UA-cam banner etc. but how do you use it when you are creating a google slide? Please explain.
Hi Linda! All the letters that I inserted were made with Canva. You can make them in the Google slide, but I find it easier to crop the text image-it was just faster for me;) Also, Canva has better pictures (IMO) so I will often use pics from Canva instead of searching the web;)

MaryAnn Byrd not yet. I think I’d like to but am still in such a learning mode I’m not doing anything else.
Thanks this was helpful!! ❤
I'm glad it was helpful!
Thank you so much very helpful
This made me feel that much more comfortable and less confused! Props to you! Thanks💚

Thanks so much! I’m so pleased you find the content helpful!
This was very helpful. It works basically like PowerPoint and I am familiar with that.
wow this was so easy to follow!!!!!!! thank you!!!!!
Thank you. Very helpful information. This video gave me some a variety of ways that I can incorporate Google Slides into my lessons.
Your videos are so helpful! Thank you!
Thank you!! I’m so glad they are helpful!
Great tutorial video! I have never used Google Slides, but after watching this... I think I am ready to give it a try! :)
Great! I was the same way, but I find that I really enjoy making them!
Thank you for yet another great video with great content.
Thank you Janis!
Awesome video :) Can you tell me where you got your headphones from?
Amazon, Logitech h600 wireless headphones ;)
Great presentation. I use Google slides but didn't know how to add more than one animation to a screen. Thanks so much!

Ahhh great tip to add the word clip art!! Thanks for your comment!!!
Thanks. I already use Google Slides but you have helped me understand it better.
Thanks for the comment! I always appreciate feedback!

So can you can share link for fun quizzes and stuff?
You can share links for games on platforms such as Nearpod and Peardeck.
Are the images you insert from the web on the google slide copyrighted?
Nope!
Quick question: I signed up for Outschool with a person from VIPKid but would like to change to you. How do I do that? Thanks!!
Thanks so much for your support, Andrea. Please email me at helloteachermaryann@gmail.com.
How did you post it into Outschool?
I don’t post my google slides in the Outschool classroom. I use them in the lesson by sharing my screen in Zoom. I have a couple more videos here on my channel where I talk about using Zoom for Outschool, and also walk you through what it looks like in the classroom;)
Gotcha!
