This is actual Catholicism! This is the kind of thing I want to see and be taught. Why are we not highlighting beautiful things like this anymore? God Bless you, Fathers… I think I have a lot more work I need to start doing! Thank you!
Just because Catholics are only required to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, DOES NOT mean we can only fast during those days. People can choose to do more, but this is something many do not understand. The Catholic Church understands that life is different for every individual, and so every Catholic individual must decide how to fast. For example, I used to do a very strict fast, but I kept getting sick and could not do all of my responsibilities, so I decided, after praying about it, i.e. asking God for advice, that fasting was not good for me. I now only fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. Also, it used to be that children over 7 years had to fast, but we now know more about the connection between food and children's development, so it might not be prudent to make them fast even if only for a month. Now the rule is all those over 14 must fast, but a 14 year old is already quite developed and can do a month long fast without hindering his physical development too much. I suspect they had originally chosen the age of 7 since it is the age of reason, but a 7 year old's body is still not robust enough. You might argue that 7 year olds of the past all fasted and survived. Yes, but we can point out that 7 year olds today are bigger and stronger than the 7 year olds of the past, and have a higher chance of living a longer and healthier life. This has a lot to do with the amount of food that they are able to eat. But you might point out, as Father has said, that God will give us the grace to be able to fast. Well, if He gives you the grace to be able to fast, then accept it and fast. But this grace is not given to everyone. I wanted to continue fasting, but I couldn't. So, the new rules are still actual Catholicism, except most people, even those who are able to fast, only choose to do the minimum, which is unfortunate.
@@tony1685 You mean to say celebrating the rise of our Lord Jesus Christ is not related to our Lord Jesus Christ? You do realize the whole egg thing is due to old Lent restrictions being alleviated and whatnot and not whatever stupid egyptian thing people come up with, right?

I am an Eastern Christian, and I was blessed to celebrate the Resurrection at the Abbey a few days ago. This Abbey truly practices the Catholic faith as it is meant to be, not the simplified, watered-down Catholic Christianity that has become mainstream. May Catholics return to these praxes. I pray for the reunification of Apostolic Christianity. Brothers and Sister in Christ, CHRIST IS RISEN!!! GLORY TO HIS HOLY AWAKENING ON THE THIRD DAY!!!
This was a positive message and I hope more Catholics learn that fasting IS still a practice, and that we can benefit in many ways if we take a dedicated and meaningful approach to embrace what we get from this practice.
I fast on brown bread from monday to sat and sunday i have dinner im doing this becausel so many people i pray would convert including my children and friends im begging at this stage also switched off tv.
Fasting does have something to do with dieting. Fasting also has something to do with spirituality. When a person feels terrible fasting, it is because he is struggling with trying to grab and use energy. He is dependent on carbohydrates for energy. It takes time to adjust. I recommend beginning your fasting adventure by dropping 1 of your meals in the day. Don't snack. Just wait until the next meal. Do that for a while before trying anything else.
We should be joyful in our fast needs to be less about punishment but rather about preparing ourselves for the Resurrection. Even if there's a sense of sadness, we can know Easter is coming so be at peace where you are at. I've lost the ideas of "Rules", "Forcing" and "Punishment" in my fasting but rather I'm finding more inner joy in my awareness of my weakness and my need for Christ.
I appreciate this video ❣️ I remember all the purple ✝️🛐 covered statues inside church and empty dry Holy water founts. I took it quite seriously. Fasting from meat was all I knew for decades. Praying the Stations of the Cross, and making sacrifices, but the Rosary we prayed all year round every afternoon, mother would call us inside at 3:00 P.M from playing outdoors and we aIl knelt down by the couch with our Rosaries as my mom left us in prayer before dinner. My grandmother who died before I was born taught my mother who was the youngest of 12 older siblings to pray the daily Rosary. I learned from the Convent teachers who were all nuns, at a very young age what practicing Penance meant even as a Kindergartener. As a child growing up in a Parochial School with my older brothers, I was the first girl who enjoyed fasting from all candy and sweets with my siblings, then feasting on Easter Sunday on Chocolate Easter eggs and a big dinner with my cousins, Looking our best in our new Easter outfits. We truly did rejoice on Easter Sunday knowing the Jesus wasn't suffering anymore but had risen up to Heaven to be with Father God.
I have started fasting on Wednesdays and Fridays, as defined in the Didache. It has amazed me how readily ones takes to it, and in fact, how I look forward to it. And these are total fasts - only water. this is very different for me, one who has always considered fasting as something done to 'diet.' Maybe the most significant change is that it has made me want to pray more and to be ever deeper in prayer. I have heard that the desert fathers used to say that fasting gives wings to our prayers, or something like that. That is starting to settle in my heart....
I'm glad you guys posted this video. Fasting is a spiritual practice that's been lost by the Church. It's important for committing our spirit, mind and body to God
Inspirational, edifying, and holy. Thank you, Fathers. I look forward to following St. Michael's Abbey more closely. God bless you all, we need & love you in Christ.
It’s never too late to start anew, even now! Do not allow despair to overcome your heart. I feel this struggle as well, having spent the first weeks of Lent without fasting as I should. The Orthodox Christian tradition has a hymn that is sung at the Easter vigil service (it is incredibly encouraging to hear after taking account all of our human failures at the end of Lent)- it comes from St. John Chrysostom’s Paschal Homily, and is read just as we begin the celebration of the Resurrection: “ If anyone has labored from the first hour, let him today receive his just reward. If anyone has come at the third hour, with thanksgiving let him keep the feast. If anyone has arrived at the sixth hour, let him have no misgivings; for he shall suffer no loss. If anyone has delayed until the ninth hour, let him draw near without hesitation. If anyone has arrived even at the eleventh hour, let him not fear on account of his delay. For the Master is gracious and receives the last, even as the first; he gives rest to him that comes at the eleventh hour, just as to him who has labored from the first. He has mercy upon the last and cares for the first; to the one he gives, and to the other he is gracious. He both honors the work and praises the intention.” so do not lose hope, begin now and run to the Lord, He will accept you with open arms as the Prodigal Son is eagerly received into the arms of his loving father!
In the Maronite church we fast like that… the church give us a minimum fast but we are called to do our best! So we try our best and it is very beautiful!!! At the big feast .. we are radiant and flying!
It is good to hear and will be good on the hip pocket, especially as employment is not garanteed, a direct consequence of post COVID - 19 Pandemic. I heard something beautiful about senses being heightened internally rather than externally, because of the emphasis of discipline from food causes us to focus on Him and His Word. If we don't fast, we have a tendency to continue to spill over into wanting more, so we are not satiated just from one meal, we keep wanting more, be it food, television, all the five senses on the outside need satisfying more and more. So I have understood that by fasting, from food and other things like even listening to the radio in the car, you are beginning to focus on the essentials and the natural instinct of prayer and a closeness to God kicks in. It was soo good to hear this reflection too, on Fasting: Our internal senses are heightened rather than the external five senses, of touch, hearing, sight, taste, and smell.
I’m an evangelical and I find myself admiring the Catholic and Orthodox churches more as time passes. If taken seriously, the church installs discipline instead of relying on “feeling” which too many evangelicals do.
I’m doing the 1962 rules where I partially abstain Monday, Tuesday Wednesday Thursday and Saturday, then I fast every day (the little meals plus one big meal fast) except for Sunday when I can eat Meat at any meals I eat. I also gave up sweets and snacking on my favorite like chips. Just something I would do when watching a TV show or movie but since I’m fasting (The Ash Wednesday and Good Friday type fasting) 6 days a week I can’t have snacks Between meals except for Sunday. I’m also trying to limit my Internet use / electronic device use during the week and cutting down on unnecessary purchases. And since Bread is empty carbs, I don’t do a bread & water only fast. I need roughage like vegetables or fruit. I also take a vitamin D daily and you have to have some kind of fat with that To make it more effective.
Hello - I am a Registered Dietitian; I am not a Catholic member, I am a nazarene according to the Texts; I align with at least 9 church fathers though; I had a patient in the hospital, probably based on this belief of 4:43 My patient wanted to be so spiritually like Jesus and Moses that they could match their faith with theirs. I do believe with God all is possible. I do believe we can live on only the word of God alone. However, I believe us to be testing the most high God in saying we do not need to observe the first chapter of Genesis. BTW, my patient was able to meet 15 days without any food or water. When we place patients onto comfort care measures and cease all artificial nutrition and hydration, they observe the same fast and pass away in 14 days on average. Thank you for reading.
I fast on Wednesdays and Fridays with bread and water. Its not hard. I give this to GOD. 🆘️👉True story, I'm suffering, & lots of sacrifices too. As I am being bullied by demons etc. Legs are in chronic pain through witchcraft. I found a rotten tooth sewn into my underblanket bedding that was the start of it anyway. One day I saw my dead family near my door, and my most grumpy nasty grandmother who picked on me badly and her sons etc. I said out loud "Ow No!" Then I heard a loud voice say loudly, "Listen to them!" They all said thankyou for getting them out of Purgatory😮. So I experienced first hand the "GRACE'S" of sufferings and sacrifices. I have a prayer life and waiting for deliverance and liberation from evil. I've had EXORSUMS but this is about me doing prayers and fasting as it say this in the New Testament.
Real Christianity - I didn’t think many Catholics were in this category, apart from a few Spirit- filled Ones. Nor did I think many Catholics were listening to the Holy Spirit about the Return of the King.

I definitely want to learn how to fast better as a Catholic, I need to do better. Thank you for this!🙏❤
This was a positive message and I hope more Catholics learn that fasting IS still a practice, and that we can benefit in many ways if we take a dedicated and meaningful approach to embrace what we get from this practice.
Thank you very much father for sharing the deep meaning of fasting.
I fast on brown bread from monday to sat and sunday i have dinner im doing this becausel so many people i pray would convert including my children and friends im begging at this stage also switched off tv.

"He doesn't call US to do anything that He Will not give US the grace" Thanks alot Fr.
40 days of fasting. Can you imagine that? That was a wonderful explanation Fathers. Thank you😊
This was an awesome video
Dear Jesus, Your Saint Michael priests are my favorite ones. Please bless them.
This is good advice, also to nourish yourself on scriptural reading and devotions
I really needed to hear this message today, thank you. 🙏🏽 God bless
Very strong words, thank you so much for this.
I appreciate this video ❣️
I remember all the purple ✝️🛐 covered statues inside church and empty dry Holy water founts.
As a child growing up in a Parochial School with my older brothers, I was the first girl who enjoyed fasting from all candy and sweets with my siblings, then feasting on Easter Sunday on Chocolate Easter eggs and a big dinner with my cousins,
Looking our best in our new Easter outfits.
We truly did rejoice on Easter Sunday knowing the Jesus wasn't suffering anymore but had risen up to Heaven to be with Father God.
Spiritual Growth through fasting. Thank You Fr.
Great video, reminding us that fasting is about prayer, not about trying to lose weight or look good. Thank you for keeping tradition alive.
It’s good for your health too! It’s a powerhouse both spiritually and physically.
@@theresa.m. I absolutely agree! 🙏
Praise God for fr Ambrose and fr Norbert 🙏 🙌 praying for your Intentions Brothers 🙏 🙌
Inspirational and truly humbling. Thank you, Fathers.
Amen! Thank you Fathers!
We know this already but we need to be reminded. Thank you for a wonderful message.
I have started fasting on Wednesdays and Fridays, as defined in the Didache. It has amazed me how readily ones takes to it, and in fact, how I look forward to it.
And these are total fasts - only water. this is very different for me, one who has always considered fasting as something done to 'diet.'
Maybe the most significant change is that it has made me want to pray more and to be ever deeper in prayer.
I have heard that the desert fathers used to say that fasting gives wings to our prayers, or something like that.
That is starting to settle in my heart....
Very nice to hear these holy words from u father
I'm glad you guys posted this video. Fasting is a spiritual practice that's been lost by the Church. It's important for committing our spirit, mind and body to God
When you are a student it's preferable to not fast
Do everything more intensely that is charitable, loving, altruistic and you will grow in the grace of God/
Inspirational, edifying, and holy. Thank you, Fathers. I look forward to following St. Michael's Abbey more closely. God bless you all, we need & love you in Christ.
please keep creating content - your message is so powerful and profound and needed in our world
Great information, thank you for reminding that important practice 🙏
I appreciate this a lot.
THANK YOU FATHERS WE NEED YOUR GUIDANCE AND THE TRUTH
PRAYING FOR ALL GOD'S CHILDREN 🙏

I went to St. Michael's abbey for Christmas mass.. first time I was there.. it was awesome, and I can't wait to go back! So glad they have a channel.
I'm watching this in Ramadan 2023. It's great to see our Christian brothers and sister are encouraged to fast for god
This is the best instructional video I've ever seen for fasting as a Christian.
I just subscribed.
Thank you and God bless you and your Abbey.
Wow, what a wonderful channel this is.....subscribed!
I'm literally stuffing my face with popcorn while I watch this during lent.
I feel like an abject failure.
Begin
Excellent, thank you, Fathers!
Glad this popped up on my UA-cam feed. Subscribed!
Beautiful
Ah this was refreshing. Wow
So based in Truth.
In the Maronite church we fast like that… the church give us a minimum fast but we are called to do our best! So we try our best and it is very beautiful!!! At the big feast .. we are radiant and flying!

Happy to have found this channel.
Great videos, I like the way he explains things and gives scripture examples. Keep doing them, please!
Me too. Especially reading the mystics, wow!
Awesome Video. India.
Thankyou Frs.
May holy trinity you fathers❤️🔥🕊✝️
Fasting is incredible - for health, physical and emotional health and of course spirituality
To fast increase the Light in our body.
Wow! Lovely video.
Hello - I am a Registered Dietitian; I am not a Catholic member, I am a nazarene according to the Texts; I align with at least 9 church fathers though; I had a patient in the hospital, probably based on this belief of 4:43
My patient wanted to be so spiritually like Jesus and Moses that they could match their faith with theirs.
Father Nobert. I am struggling to fast like honestly am struggling 😢. I need help
Edifying, thank you.
Amen ❣️ 🙏
Thank you
Father Norbert reminds me a bit of Bishop Sheen. May God bless him.
I am so Happy listening to both of you,I just had to Remind myself that there are still good priest in the church
The battle of Saint Benedict against demons and corruption has just started
I try to fast but I get so sick and tired. I pray for the strength to do better! I don't think babies were deprived of milk. They would perish.
I said out loud "Ow No!"
Then I heard a loud voice say loudly, "Listen to them!"
They all said thankyou for getting them out of Purgatory😮.
So I experienced first hand the "GRACE'S" of sufferings and sacrifices.
I have a prayer life and waiting for deliverance and liberation from evil.
I've had EXORSUMS but this is about me doing prayers and fasting as it say this in the New Testament.
This is really important
Love from Zimbabwe 🇿🇼
Such a beautiful religion 😍
Great infos.. we are in our Fasting month Ramadan a special month for muslims . We fast for almost 30 days as per God's will
God Bless.
Approach fasting with a TRUE testimony of the Gospel especially CELIBACY.
Real Christianity - I didn’t think many Catholics were in this category, apart from a few Spirit- filled Ones. Nor did I think many Catholics were listening to the Holy Spirit about the Return of the King.
Too bad you don’t know many real Catholics.
Thank you for sharing!
Don’t wait til lent to go deeper.
