I met Devora Wilde last year and she is one of the loveliest people you'll ever meet. I asked her to send a video message to one of my friends who didn't turn up to same convention and she went full Lae'zel on him. After an hour my friend responded and I went back to her table to show her and before I say anything she got up and asked "Has he responded? Let me see" For me that shows she loves her work and fans.
In the various D&D games over the decades there has never been a playable or even companionable Githyanki character. As a long time D&D player I sincerely applaud Larian Studios, Devora, and all those involved with producing Baldur's Gate for having the guts to take on a Githyanki character. The results speak for themselves - Lae'zel is a very memorable character for me.
There has been a githzerai companion in Planescape: Torment, Dak'kon, and githzerai are the flip side of the same coin - former Mind Flayer slaves who roam Limbo.

She’s probably one of the funniest companions next to Minthara. I like her development throughout the whole game and she saves my honor mode and secures the golden dice
Lae’zel cracks me the heck up throughout the game. I love the scene very early on where Tav corrects her calling Teiflings the wrong name and such it was incredibly charming.
Always adored Lae'zel - I liked how abrasive she was, and really treasure the journey she goes on. Of all the companion characters through almost 1800 hours of various playthroughs, I think Lae'zel is the only constant.
Such an incredible cast of vas. Such iconic characters. Touched the hearts of a lot of players myself included. I wish all of the vas continued success.
She kind of reminds me of Miranda in Mass Effect 2. Both start out as being rather hostile to the player in Mass Effect that being Commander Shepard. Miranda is rather untrusting of Shepard but later becomes less unlikeable as the game progresses where Lae 'zel offers help to the player's character and the group but is an ally out of necessity and need rather than any fondness for the group. But becomes protective of the group as the story goes on. Another character that becomes protective of the group even though she can be slightly evil at times is Minthara.
I've never gotten lea'zel killed or had her turn her back on me. She has been with me till the end for all of my playthroughs. A couple of them I ha e changed her class to monk because half way through the story, it feels like she would for orpheus.
Romancing Lae'zel was a natural progression in my first playthrough. She just suddenly came on to me and I followed it as far as I could. She has a sweetness to her once she warmed up to my Tav, and for some reason I find her smile innocent and endearing. I broke up with her along the way but she stayed on good terms until the end. I gotta admit I felt emotional when she looked back and smiled before hopping on to her dragon and flew away.
Lae'zel was my first romance and now I can't stop romancing her, even managed to bring her over to Dragon's Dogma 2 and got max affinity there too. To be honest I think the whole cast of BG3 was phenomenal but personally Lae'zel's character stood out to me on a personal level
Right? Sometimes a first romance hits you so hard, playing it again and going for someone else feels like cheating, even if you're playing a different character! In my ongoing second run I am romancing Karlach, but I'm only fine because I am playing Wyll. If I ever play another Tav, it will be Lae'zel again.
Lae'zel is such a fun character, I didnt find her annoying as other people seemed to have. I laughed more from her lines than any other companions tbh shes just so unique!
Lae'zel was my Tav's best friend from the beginning till the very end: I've never excluded her from my party! She and my Lolth-sworn drow had pretty much in common. Two individuals, raised in the harshest and most unforgiving societies in Faerun (also ruled by two evil queens), can understand each other very well
Lae'zel's eyes communicate more depth to her lines. I love how she can go from a protective snarl to pleading puppy-dog eyes in a heartbeat. Just look at those eyes 9:08 and 13:58😻
Such underrated performance, when I got to that creche part when Lae'zel has a faith crysis I was completely sold and she became one of my favourite characters in the entire game
Lae'zel is one of the best characters in this game & my personal favorite. Devora Wilde did a amazing job bringing her to life, along with larian studio's.
It took 5 playthroughs for me to notice that Lae'Zel jumps over your head at the very beginning in sync with the red dragon flying by, like SHE is the dragon. So poetic from the very beginning. Another one is Dame Aylin flying by the beheaded statue of her mother's outstretched hands like the statue was sending her as a blue fireball against the undead.
Somethig I like about Lae'zel is that she's direct and blunt when her walls are up but when she's vulnerable, she gets very poetic. The performance sells the transformation.
One thing that is not talked about often is how Lae'zel's personality in game and the gameplay matches so well, especially early on. She commands you and talks as if she is carrying the team and franky she is usually carrying the team in combat. So I always felt like what she said was warranted.
I went in to Bg3 completely blind, except for character pictures, both to Baldur’s gate in general and DnD. Based off of appearances alone,I thought I wouldn’t like Lae’zel. She looked too alien to me and I wasn’t sure I could connect. (It was the same for Karlach) However, once I got to playing the game and interacted with her,she quickly rose to my second favorite character. I often times make people angry when I say what I mean to them, which relates me to her. As someone with autism, I find myself relating to her a lot.
I love Lae'zel, she really is one of the most honest companions (maybe together with Jaheira, Minsc and Karlach). I love the development she makes throughout the game.
Larian truly put some humanity into the Gith with the writing of Lae'zel. And Devora was able to expertly portray that. Lae'zel has her entire world crushed with the discovery of her entire life and livelihood were a lie for the benefit of one person.
I swear, Baldur's Gate 3 has the greatest collection of voice actors I have ever seen. These are S tier performances almost across the board. Nearly every one of them deserves an award. Just amazing.
I thought Lae'zel was fine at first, but when I discovered you could steal the Legendary Silver Sword and give it to her Act 1; she went instantly to S-rank. I don't care if I got to make her a bard or cleric or something she's a must have.
Her progression from calus lone warrior with a singular purpose to seeing the beauty of life between war and peace, and finding the value in permanent family bonds reminds me of Geralt as well
Lae'zel came onto me, I accepted her advances, and she was like, "Naw dawg, your bedroll is too busy for my liking." I feel like I missed out. Oh well, that's just one small part of the mountain of replay value BG3 has.
Almost done playing my second playthrough..Used Laezelle this time..Surprised by the depth of her evolution! I fell in love with her! And she fights very well!
Lae'zel is your "true believer" zealot who is focused on her task at hand. She is strong and forthright in her actions and convictions. The truth she realizes later on down the road leads her to show her vulnerability and that is shown through the physical and voice performance as well. A truly excellent performance all around.
I think one part a lot of people miss in Lae'zel is that at the start of the game, she knows Vlaakith's teachings, but she doesn't know herself. She's actually a healthily developed person with a full range of emotions even there already, but she's not aware of that and doesn't understand herself yet. Lae'zel thinks of herself an ice cold, emotionless killer, and she really is not. That is why you often need to look past HOW she says something and really focus WHAT she says. A great example is early on in the grove, I think this is also the same conversation that has the nose stuff, where she mispronounces "teeth-ling" and "fae-run". She goes a little bit on a tangent on how little she supposedly thinks of the locals ("not culture, custom perhaps"), which projects the Githyanki supremacist, aloof warrior. Then you look at the actual content of the statements and discover that she is asking the player to TEACH HER. No real supremacist would care to learn details about cultures they honestly think are worthlessly barbarian. How does she get to that point? Well, the very first thing that Lae'zel does when she's alone is walk into a trap designed for animals and helplessly wait for rescue. My interpretation is that this thoroughly humbled her and made her at the very least question the entire idea of how inherently superior she is. She keeps up the act for quite a while, but there's no real bite to her alleged racism, ever. This theme continues: Lae'zel's actions and the actual contents of her statements tell you that she's a much more humble and sincere person than you'd assume if you just look at her choice of words. Lae'zel is my favorite companion in Baldur's Gate 3, partially because her character development is subtle and nuanced like that. She was my choice of romance in my first, and so far only completed playthrough of the game, and I am very happy with that choice. Lae'zel and my character riding off together will always be my personal canon ending to the game.
Saw her name in the Dragon’s Dogma 2 credits as an additional voice, and now hearing her actual voice, I can vaguely remember the npcs that sound like her.
Devora did a great job with Lae'zel. Her and Astarion had th best stories. I always had Lae'zel in my party cause she is a tank and hits hard. She might be a tough but she can be soft and vulnerable and for me I love how she questioned her queen. Now I have to do the opposite of her good ending
I love Lae'zel. She is pure, honest, genuine, and passionate. I love her character arc and I love romancing her. She is a true romantic as well as a warrior equal. Strength, integrity, and openness. She's my girl, Source of my bruises, Source of my joy.
I think Lae'zel is an amazing character, I absolutely loved having her in my party! In fact, I had to restart my playthrough because in the first, I had gotten intimate with Lae'zel early on, but ultimately wanted to romance Shadowheart, and didn't have the heart to break it off with Lae'zel...
Lae'zel is an amazing character who I didn't appreciate enough on my first playthrough. On my second I romanced her which was an incredibly fulfilling journey but had the troublesome little side effect of now really wanting to romance her again every playthrough just to see more of her with how good her character development is especially when doing her romance. I am mainly interested in the female companions, might try the romances for the male ones someday but out of Lae'zel, Shadowheart and Karlach it does feel like not romancing Lae'zel makes you miss a lot more of her character than the other two. Probably after this run where I am romancing Karlach I'll just go back to romancing Lae'zel every run from then on.
I liked Laezel initially, but never felt interested in romancing her. But when I went through the game the first 2 times, I really saw her progression, especially the second playthrough as I was a bit less focused on the story events and could focus on characters. Now I have an avatar just beginning act 3 who is romancing her, and it's been a really cool experience.
I love Lae’zel so much! I reloaded like 20 times in that psychic chair. After she was kidnapped, I never let her out of my sight again. OMG - take that stupid kid!
I still actively play BG3. And yet it's still somehow so nostalgic to watch this video. That's what it means for a game to be an instant classic. BG3 is going to be getting it's flowers for a long, long time.
Lae'Zel was an awesome performance and incredibly well written character. She comes across only initially as blunt and bitchy, but has enormous growth and is wonderful to see grow in the romance.
Laezel is the most recent example of the "tough cookie" trope. she's not human, she doesn't understand humans or their customs, but the more you empathize with her, the more she softens up and shows you her real self.... not the herself that her customs made her be, but the real HER. that's something that most women today could learn from. ....oh wait... they don't play games, they'll be out hooking up... yeah, I can see how women may lose their shit when men prefer someone like Laezel to Miss Fellatio over there.
PLZ do Raphael next! What a great character. A character who just come to you here and there, but sooooo fucking memorable. Too bad demon are all evil in D&D world, I want to be friend with Raphael so much XD
Speak, I am listening. One of my favorite Lae'Zel scenes is choosing to deface the Vlakiith paining while controlling her. I can't recall if there were any lines, but her looking around suspiciously and then admiring her handiwork was so funny. I got halfway through a Lae'Zel romance and saw quite the gradual shift in personality, would like to see the rest.
I remember I was a bit off-put by Lae'zel in the beginning but gained my respect really quick.Mainly because I don't like pushy people but for sure her brute honesty is what made her charming shortly after.Come one, that flip over Tav in her debut scene i epic, never skipped it on all 5 of my play throughs. In fact I recall times where I rooted for her more that the fan fav Shadowheart, who is a bit of the same but misleading and down right shady sometimes. I mean in the Nautiloid ship Lae'zel is being a badass showing us how tf to get off the ship and Shadowheart decides this is the best time to be snarky. Like "bruh I'm tryna get tf outta here, can we all just listen to Lae'zel asshole lol" Lae'zel is a certified badass and I damn near always take her into my party just to watch her slice and maul down enemies with such ease. Shes probably the least party member I changed her class from because she was so strong, even in the early game. I know when its her turn some bodies about to see the after life soon as I press the attack button lmao!😂💪⚔
After killing, paralysing and just generally causing Laezel a lot of.....bad times for being rude to me - She's now one of my fave characters. She is literally so rude that you just have to do her in a few times but when you get to know her you will grow to love her.
Lae'zel is a performance that should've gotten awards.
Yep i think she did better than Astarion

don't lose the opportunity to play as a laezel origin, it's just great, dev did a great job!
Lae'zel is my passionate beauty.
Bae'zel
"Is there something bothering you?"
Devora was the perfect actor for lae'zel. All the actors to be fair in bg3 were a perfect pick.
Devora wilde is amazing
I liked Laezel initially, but never felt interested in romancing her. But when I went through the game the first 2 times, I really saw her progression, especially the second playthrough as I was a bit less focused on the story events and could focus on characters. Now I have an avatar just beginning act 3 who is romancing her, and it's been a really cool experience.
Her performance was *perfect* for a Gith. Now I just wanna see Dakkon brought to life in a BG game.. or a new Planescape! Wld just be *soooo* coool..
I love Lae’zel so much! I reloaded like 20 times in that psychic chair. After she was kidnapped, I never let her out of my sight again.
OMG - take that stupid kid!
I love that angry space frog!
Lae'zel is def my 2nd fave.
I still actively play BG3.
And yet it's still somehow so nostalgic to watch this video.
That's what it means for a game to be an instant classic. BG3 is going to be getting it's flowers for a long, long time.
Bae'zel is my favorite character in the game.
Lae'zel in the game: 👊💪😡
Lae'zel in real life: 🥰✌️🤪
Lae'Zel was an awesome performance and incredibly well written character. She comes across only initially as blunt and bitchy, but has enormous growth and is wonderful to see grow in the romance.
I love Lae'zel!!! 😍🥰
More of things like this please
i love Laezel no matter what
PLZ do Raphael next! What a great character. A character who just come to you here and there, but sooooo fucking memorable. Too bad demon are all evil in D&D world, I want to be friend with Raphael so much XD
i love her 😭
Tsk'va!
One of my favorite characters, thank you Devora
Damn SHE IS A BEAUTY!!!!
After killing, paralysing and just generally causing Laezel a lot of.....bad times for being rude to me - She's now one of my fave characters. She is literally so rude that you just have to do her in a few times but when you get to know her you will grow to love her.
