Scrapped princes anime actually has a, yeah that scenario, modern past Kubera webtoon that has good fantranslations, nice. The show th 100 did actually such a scenario.i mean that an apocalypse lets , fun dark show, that get really good about carrying trauma and people screwing up and trying. Pretty sure adventure time did it too.
This sets a strange chain of misinformation: "And Rand's final showdown with the Forsaken that he has to deal with, feels like it shouldn't have gone the way it did. It's just like this rushed through. It does match the fact that the Forsaken are just incompetent, as a whole. But he manages to bumble, fumble his way into essentially taking out one of the most powerful people in known existence. Ehhh, that's not a good look." This sets the contextual stage of the last fight at the Eye. This part does not happen at the Eye: "Though I do like that Moiraine, it fits her character very well, I love in this final showdown where like the Forsaken are there and Moiraine is like 'time to murder MFers' and just fwah!! Just goes in like, just kills one of them using some sketchy sh*t I wont get into because spoilers." Moiraine slows Aginor, but is beaten. This is verified by Moiraine immediately after the battle by Moiriane herself. Balthamel is killed by The Green Man. Aginor is killed trying to take in the power at the Eye. He destroys himself. Then Rand goes on to take out Ba'alzamon. The spoilers you were talking about are in a different book where Moiriane blasts a Forsaken. This is not part of the Eye of the World. I hope this was just a slip of the mind and the tongue, not a true review of the final showdown at the end of the EotW.
@@nathanhall9345 also reminds me of Malazaan (even tho i dnf'ed that series after MoI - but I intend to go back and reread/finish, I just got caught up in a WoT reread for the show and a Cosmere reread with my buddy who started on mistborn)... such poetic prose jordan flexes at times, its reminiscent of beowulf or shakespeare
IMO The "homeless Rand Matt" subplot it's one of the most important ones in the series. For me the subplot showed the fact that anyone can be a darklfriend. And it just doesn't just show it to the reader, it shows it to Rand (Matt forgets that whole journey) which has an effect on Rand's development and in his eventual paranoia.
Mat remembers though in snippets when he was in the tower for healing he didn't trust selene coz he remembered how a courtly pretty lady tried to kill him and rand coz she's a dark friend he's actually the most paranoid of them all after the dagger stuff
I love that part of the book too. Rand and Matt learn a lot.. at least how to survive and live the adventurer lifestyle which is obviously important for the rest of the series!
It's also very telling about their characters, how Rand and Mat are loyal to one another and have each other's backs, no matter what happens. Even when one is weakened and seems like a liability, the other protects and cares for him, in spite of their paranoia-conducive experiences and the dagger eating away at Mat's mind.
My favorite thing about EOTW was the sense of danger present the entire time. They couldn’t stop to relax for even a little too long without risking death.
It felt like that all the way until May was fully healed, it was actually *TIRING* to read and I like that that translates to how the characters were feeling.
Yeah i agree. Also, having their nightmares being a constant threat added so much, like the characters literally got no rest from the threats around them.
I never felt as if they were in any real danger. Especially after they had their first battle against the dark lord's minions and all escaped without a scratch, including the three farm boys with minimal sword fighting training. The final confrontation was kind of exciting, but then in hindsight it was just "two magic guys fight, the one with more magic wins." In the entire book, I thought the Whitecloaks were the most threatening and scary. And interesting.
I liked the parallel of Matt and Gollum. The dagger slowly corrupting him and making him suspicious of everyone. But I think Matt's situation is more relatable and I feel more saddened to see their friend fall to such evil.
The end of EOTW always reminded me of a pilot episode of a series where the creators didn't know if it was gonna be picked up so they sort of wrote an ending to it, but it wasn't REALLY supposed to be the ending ... just how it makes me feel. Still love it
Exactly that ending when compared to every other book seemed so encompassing and conclusive, though of course angling out and whipping those other plot threads/character ideas for your interest.
Thats actually exactly what happened lol. His original deal with the publishers was supposed to be a trilogy, so each of the first 3 books seemed super final and the worldbuilding and rules changed (slightly but noticeably on a reread) after book 3
Finished Eye for the 1st time last month. Oddly enough, Moiraine struck me as the beam of kindness in the dark world that WoT is set in, where even the "good" characters are quite often selfish and mean. In contrast to the reputation the Aes Sedai hold, you can see Moiraine cares about the kids: she wishes them well, it's not only because of what they represent on the bigger spectrum for the Wheel. She has tremendous empathy and a gentle way towards the Fielders and people in general, all behind that intimidating and sometimes stern figure (you can see that with Nynaeve especially). She is, for me, a kind and gentle figure who sometimes struggles on account of "caring too much".
I'm more excited for Daniel watching it than I am for the show to come out. I can just picture him hugging a pillow and giddy with excitement as his girlfriend and cat both roll their eyes in the background.
It depends. If it is nearly as good as I hope it is (ie, at least somewhat faithful to what I loved in the books), I might favor the TV show by a good stretch. But if it somehow has not gotten executed anywhere near correctly, and it's bad, then I will still love sitting here, watching Daniel's savage weekly reviews on it :) We can't lose no matter how this turns out :)
LOL! I've been on the same pace, started WoT #1 last June and now i'm on book 12. Read some shorter books in between here and there but still mainly WoT, and 1 book/ month.
@@Ktulured55 Unfortunately, I started at the end of January, so only got to finishing book 4 this Sunday. I'm currently having a break (partly because I'm busy this week, but also I just have breaks between the books so I don't get burnt out), and at this rate should be finished next year.
Same here ^^' I wanted to read the series in the original language but English is not my mother tongue. And now I am struggeling a bit because even though I enjoy reading English books, it gets exhausting sometimes and WoT is just soo long.
Im on dragon reborn now, but Moiraine, in the eye of the world especially, has so much weight and presence in the page you feel like when she says something you should listen very carefully bc she is the wizard trope here but done really well. When she just walks into the scene you feel her presence and three books in only like Siuan has that sort of presence in the page.
Man did I distrust moiraine first time. I honestly thought she was going to turn out to be some kind of bounty hunter looking for boys that can channel. Up untill the innkeeper in caemlin said he knew her and Lan did I finally partially trust her
My first read-through I started with New Spring (I naively assumed I should start there)...which gave me an entirely different perspective on Moiraine than most people who start with EotW. I trusted her completely and was really frustrated when other character did not haha.
@@mikem1585 I don't know new spring sounds like such a dope book to get into WoT but that would've meant you would prolly realise rand is the dragon reborn at chapter 10 or something...
@@j.t.l9761 to be fair, him being the main character and pov throughout the entire book was a bit of a giveaway to me. Although it would have been a sick twist if at the end perrin or Mat would have been the dragon
@@j.t.l9761 I had no complaints about starting there until I started to hear about how other people experienced EotW. Overall, it just gave me a better understanding of Moiraine/Siuan, their motivations, Aes Sedai, etc. I wouldn’t say it’s “bad” to do it this way, just different.
@@melleklaver8021 FR!! It was a giveaway but I for some reason was expecting it to be any of the others. But well there were one too many signs anyway.
I LOVED Moiraine when I read the book for the first time. She was this mysterious, shot-heighted woman who seems to appear more imposing and powerful than any of the band.
I think my favorite nugget from Eye of the World is when Moriane is explaining the process of someone touching the one power to Nynaeve. While the very same thing is happening to Rand across the world. Some of the best foreshadowing as well with all the dreams as well as with Min.
"Trollocs were evolving, and Rand single-handedly set them back." Ooooh, yessss, the hottest of the hot takes. Leave it to a goblin to empathise with the trollocs. On a less joke-y note, though, I really like your take on Moiraine near the end of the video. Particularly the parts pertaining to future spoilers. I won't be able to read along (no time, too much uni :'[ ), but I'm really looking forward to watching future videos in this series.
You know you truly love something when you can reexperiece it multiple times, sometimes in a row, talk about and gush over it at length, never getting bored with it, and it is never, ever enough.
I'm caught up on the read-along. Moiraine and Lan are me favorites so far. My first impression on the first book was general enjoyment, but the constant mistrust and hiding of dreams for her began to wear slightly tiring after everything she had done for them. Being raised to not trust the White Tower accounts for some of it, but being THAT stubborn to not make an exception for someone who is proving themselves, even with an agenda.
And the mistery of it all. The Manetheren speech, the offhand comments about other places and peoples in the world that all spark so much curiosity and a need to learn more about this newly discovered world.
I will have to disagree, only because The Hobbit was a first book, or even Fellowship for a series overall. The first book is very, very derivative and gets what feels like soft-retcons later to sort out its inconsistencies. It is not a bad start and once you go beyond the first book it gets its own legs to stand on, but it is not the best first book I have read. (Oh, Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy is technically a first book as well, and I rate it very, very highly.)
I've come back after finishing EotW! I was planning to pick up the series eventually, but I left this video pre-spoilers and dove straight into the audiobook and e-book! (Thank you so much for convincing me to do this, by the way, if you see this!!) Being totally new to this series and having just read the first book, to me Moiraine seems like she's had an insane amount of responsibility thrust upon her (or maybe has seen the need for someone to accept this responsibility and stepped the feck up), but she's competent and badass and knew more or less what she was getting into, and now she's having to make decisions she doesn't want to have to make, and being yelled at by people who couldn't possibly understand. Honestly, after working for many years in customer service management I relate HARD to my interpretation of Moiraine lmao. I did start to question her motives when we saw homeless Mat and Rand, because I hadn't understood until then what a 'dark friend' was. Once I realized they're just normal looking people and they could be anyone, I sort of questioned her because so many other characters were uneasy and untrusting with her. Pretty quickly though I fell back to my previous understanding. Can't wait to binge the series along with these videos!! My first time ever hearing Michael and Kate narrate was with Breach of Peace, and I was ecstatic to see they narrate WoT because I had fallen in love with their narration of Khlid, Sam and Chapman!! So, so hyped for everything here!!
Also, i still am reading first time and i love Moiraine. Like you said it is perfect way to introduce this earth to reader. Other than that she is just really cool character, i understand why some people don't love her she can be little ambiguous and we dont really know what her motives are in the beginning. Also, the fact that few of our main POVs dislike her a lot and the rest has unclear feelings towards her doesn't really help readers to love her. But i think she is amazing woman and as the story progress my love for her keeps grow
She is a little TOO much at times. I don't hate her but she comes off really unlikeable at first same goes with Egwene but towards the end of this book itself I don't really hate them now.
As someone who is only on book 2 she is by far the most annoying to me. I have assumed the whole time that she was written that way to allow for character growth.
I only read Eye of the World so far so I have a lot to catch up on 😂 I really liked the prologue even the first time reading it. It really intrigued me.
As I finished my first read-through of EOTW last month, I can say that Moiraine strikes me as a character that would go against the orders to do something she believes to be the right decision. She seems like a free-spirit kind of character within the Aes Sedai order(council ?), and some of her interaction with Lan reinforce that in the book because you see that Lan knows she doesn't always follow through with the Sedai "code", but he will still follow her to the edges of the world. (I love Lan ♥)
After your channel convincing me to start the series, I finished The Eye of the World this afternoon. I have to say, I loved it. I teared up when Loail began singing for Treebrother. To answer your question, Moiraine comes off to me as wise, practiced and powerful. I trust her, despite what we’ve heard about Aes Sedai, and I think Jordan (as Rand) put it well when he said she is “like steel covered with velvet”. Thank you for encouraging me to begin this series and I’ll be back when I’ve finished The Great Hunt!
@@milospollonia1121 not that far at all lol, I'm still on Eye Of The World (the book in this video) and am enjoying it so far, so far I'm really liking the perspective of the farmers and really just vibing with Jordan's writing style. I plan on taking my time and just vibing with the series as a whole. I am convinced that I'll just one day go on a binge and finish a couple of books in a couple of months. Right now, Wheel Of Time is my first epic fantasy so I'm just growing comfortable with it.
I remember when I was 12 years old and made a book-review for school of my fav book 'The Eye of the World'. The general reaction was (including the teacher who graded me) 'we see he loves this story, but we've got no clue what this kid is talking about'. Props to you for staying concise talking about a story this complex and packed with content :D
@@bobbedybob8036 The audiobooks are for free on UA-cam. Normally not at all a fan of not supporting artists, but in your case I think it might be fine to start listening.
I'm doing my first reread for your read along. I've always heard you and others say how great it is on rereads and now I understand. It was amazing the first time, and got me back into reading. Now I'm loving this series all over again. There is so much I missed the first time before I understood the world. Rest In Peace Robert Jordan
Just finished The Eye of The World a few days ago and picked up The Great Hunt yesterday. I'm really shocked by how quickly I fell in love with these books, the world feels so vast and interesting and I adore all of our characters. Can't wait to see what the next book holds!
I am so excited for these videos! I started the series in January and I’m currently about to finish Path of Daggers. This series has become a warm blanket for me and your channel is to thank for that. LET’S GOOOOOOO
I'm so happy your doing this! I started reading WOT during Uni this last year, flew through the first 2 books during Christmas break, but then had to stop when Uni started again because things got to busy! This now gives me the perfect incentive to start reading again and I already have a 2 book head start!
Just finished the first book and Moiraine is my favorite character so far. She came across as this really wise and badass character and her presence never fails to bring me so much relief because somehow, I know things will be better once she’s there. I guess she’s also the reason why I find it hard to like the three guys and Nynaeve. I feel like they’re unnecessarily rude and aggressive towards her when she literally saved not just their lives but their whole little town. They kept demanding more from her but suspect her at the same time, like they think she’s both Jesus and satan reincarnated. lol
Yes!! These were my exact thoughts too, I can see why most people seemed to distrust her because the main characters did, but from her introduction I just fell in love.
When the first Lord of the Rings movie came out I as a child enjoyed it so much I wanted to continue to story. My dad ordered The Two Towers from Amazon which at the time was primarily a book store, it came bundled with the Eye of the World. I hated reading The Two Towers and ended up reading The Eye of the World. The series has become an ever-present comfort in my life, and took me from barely reading 100 pages in a week to destroying 2000 page novels on the regular. It really changed everything for me. Always glad to hear about how other folks stumbled on the series.
The Scene where Logain and Rand lock eyes, is an absolutely incredible interaction! No spoilers ….but a convo later in the series just adds so much more to the interaction, in hindsight! The scene just gets better and better each re-read!
That was one of the big reasons I continued with the books to be honest. It gave me a feel of the kind of thing that could be coming. I’m really happy they’re planning on giving Logain a bigger part in the show!
I was more surprised he was mentioned at all in the sequels. He felt like a one-off doomed character, but no. I'm not even done with the series so I don't know how far he goes, but I've made it to the conversation you speak of.
I'm beginning to think I have a different edition or something, since you and Daniel both mention this scene but I can't recall it happening at all.. Is this at the end of Ch. 39 Weaving of the Web, when Rand is sitting on the wall? Could you let me know the passage?
@@DarkNytik They don't actually lock eyes, they are too far apart. Rand is up on the wall and watching Logain far away being taken through the town. He sees him laughing and reads it as part of his arrogance. This is right before he falls into the garden and that whole bunch of stuff happens so it's easy to miss. You'll find out why this is misremembered later :-D
The "Voice" is that of the Creator. It hat me after I finished and was thinking back and it blew me away. "Would you be MY champion?" God spoke to him. Thank about it. It proved there actually is a "Creator" in the world and that he/it does care.
14:20 "Logaine sees Rand at all that distance and just starts losing it" Oh no! I thought Logaine was laughing at the townspeople howling with animal hatred/fear, didn't know he saw Rand. hm
I would love to see Rosamund Pike narrate the story of Manetheren in a prologue-style sequence at some point in the series the way Cate Blanchett narrates the opening of Fellowship of the Ring.
I started the series in February (partly because of your constant praise) and I'm almost finished with A Memory of Light. I'm not ready to let it go yet. So until the show comes out I'll be watching every WOT video there is.
The Lews Therin chapter hooked me, esp the Michael Kramer reading. I was on an airplane just 👁👄👁 Boy on a farm probably would have lost me BUT it does get off to a fast start.
Just finished the book this week! Aside from being an amazing first book in a series that (hopefully) sets up amazing things, my favorite ongoing thing in the book is Rand and Perrin's inner monologue where they both think "I wish I could talk to girls like the the other can", meanwhile they both suck at it lmao
Yeah i have a friend online who reccomended wot to me she herself is at book 11 and i constantly ramble chat about it when something stirs my mind, every single time i heard that i was just like *furious typing* awkward teens who suck at it, both of them! Lol
man you killing it, ive been doing a live readthrough on my twitch of the eye of the world, and im only averaging 2-3 viewers, and you got 1288 views in only 13 hours. amazing. you are a legend daniel greene. a real legend
Wow I'm finally on board! I gave this series a try a few years ago when I was first starting to read again, but the super different names of people and places that don't exist outside of real life combined with what felt like excruciatingly slow pace, I felt overwhelmed. So I put the book down and wasn't in a hurry to ever pick it up again... I heard what an amazing community WoT is and wanted to be a part of it so I gave it another shot. Man, I was so worried because I still thought the first book boring, but thankfully I can listen to audiovooks at work so I jumped into the great hunt and things started to click for me. I've got a third of the dragon reborn left and am loving mats perspective and I can't wait to see how other things play out. Thank you so much for introducing me to this amazing series! I'm grateful that there's such an enthusiastic audience since I never would have taken a second look at a chunky 14 book series and said yea I'm gonna try this again!
I always thought of the Green Man as something the Ogier brought about by singing to the trees.. or maybe he was a result of someone in the Age of Legends dabbling in plant dna, somehow making a sentient tree that could move around. And he only survived all that intervening time because they needed someone to protect the Eye..
Pretty sure it's canon that the Green Man (Someshta) is the last of his race of constructs (the Nym) made by AoL Aes Sedai with the help of Ogier singing, with the purpose of enhancing crops to sustain the world population with their Songs of Growing.
@@Zetamen7 yeah there is a specific scene where the AoL Aes Sedai tell him to protect the eye of the world, though they may not mention it by name, though it is clear what they meant
I subbed to DG when he first started. Pleasantly surprised to see how the channel and production quality has grown. Our disheveled goblin is all grown up. Just wish youtube didn't stop showing me new episodes in my feed
SPOILER (Not sure if this is):The voice is the Creator, who also spoke to Rand in AMOL, BTW. I have a personal theory that the Creator might be Robert Jordan's stand in.
I just finished my reread of TEotW last night. Re: Talking Trollocs: Trollocs have their own language and accompanying runes. “Ba’alzamon” is a Trolloc word. Trolloc runes were etched in the Guiding stones in the Ways. They even speak in words Fain could understand when they were ordered to carry him from Emond’s Field to Taren Ferry. They talked about cooking him up for dinner.
Oohh WoT has been on my TBR list for soo long and I started it finally after hearing you go on and on about how this is the best fantasy series and I have to say I agree with you What I loved about the book is how Jordan describes everything so well.. It's the setting and the details.. You feel like you are right there He doesn't force the characters to be perfect. They are what they are. I loved the fact that rand and mat and Perrin are so resistant to leave the only place they've known forever. They do not want to go on an adventure. They are forced to leave their homes and are therefore stubborn and resistant to the person driving them to do so- Morraine Ahhh Morraine.. The way her character was introduced was so subtle. You know she's someone important but to what extent. She's strong and that's saying something. She's someone who can manage to make you sound like a fool even when you know that what you said is right and just. She's got her own agendas and she's a no nonsense person. She hides stuff. She likes to hold all her cards close to her heart and not show her hand. She will only tell you what she deems necessary. I'm only on the 5th book yet and loving every second of it. I cannot cannot wait to finish the series and reread it again 🤭😂
This is FLAWLESS timing. I'm reading through the books for the first time and just finished book 2, so I'm ahead of the curve! . . . Except for the people who have loved the series for decades . . .
Just introduced this series to my mother and told her: "the prologue is the most confusing and most important chapter in the entire series. Don't be discouraged and just reread it if you have to."
Idk why, but the opening immediatly clicked for me. And with immediatly i mean after reading it 2 times, but i could kinda tell what was going on and i loved the sheer epicness it conveys.
I understand why people say that but I kind of got it right away. I did know about a dragon existing and pretty much guessed that that was the whole "prophecied saviour" thing.
I’ve read Eye of the World years ago and absolutely loved it. Never got around to book 2. Then today I see Amazon is already looking for a second season before release of the first and I’m freaking out. I have to continue the Wheel of Time! And thank goodness you made this video to recap book 1 as I needed a refresher something fierce. Just what I needed. Perfect timing & awesome video!
same except its basically every video of his as i started reading again with another massive series meaning i know nothing of literally any other book he talks about but still enjoy listening
I am so glad you're doing this!! I started Wheel of Time at the beginning of this year thanks to discovering your channel, and I always go back and watch your old recap and review videos after I finish each one to help me process and remember what happened. I'm excited to have these new videos to add to the routine! Unfortunately I'm reading at a pace of about one book per month (reading an easier/shorter book between each one to make sure I don't burn myself out or start rushing), so after a while I won't be able to watch them right away. I'm on book 5 right now and still going strong! Funny about the Prologue, I didn't realize that was the general consensus about it! I LOVED the prologue; between that and the cozy, homey descriptions of Emond's Field from Egwene's point of view that made me feel like I live there, I was hooked. I thought those two chapters gave you the best of both worlds- the immersion you feel with the characters and culture and then this HUGE, epic story of magic and heroes and massive worldchanging battles. I love those two chapters and I haven't been disappointed since by the tone that was set. As far as Moiraine, I knew she was going to be one of my favorite characters right from the start. I love her description with her blue robes and how much she stood out- like an invader from the wilder outside world coming to simple Emond's Field. Then I just loved her progression even just in Eye of the World from this serious mage with the weight of the world on her shoulders who will stop at nothing to save the world...and she never really loses that, but there's also this layer of her being a tired mother hen to these villagers that are so difficult to keep alive sometimes. It's hilarious to think about. I'm constantly wavering back and forth between if she actually cares about the main characters or if they're really just tools for her to save the world. I can't wait to experience the rest of her story.
Well... I mean... this may be too obvious to point out, but the vids aren't going anywhere. You can actually take as much time to read them as you want.
Can't say the last time a single video made me like, comment, and want to subscribe. However I have been subscribed since your original reviews man. Keep up the great work. Love your content!
This is the best Daniel Greene video I have watched. I haven't watched all of them, but have watched a good amount. Well done! I'm still in my first reading of WoT. I'm on book 12, The Gathering Storm. I loved Moiraine and and understood her for the first few books, but without saying any spoilers, I didn't like her for a while until she 'changed' for Mr. Al'Thor, then I thought she was smart again. My first impression of Moiraine was goodness, intelligence, and beauty. She kind of had to be a strict mother in a way to the 5 'bumpkins', while Lan was the quiet yet stern father, in a way.
My first impression of Moraine was that she's a awesome but a little bit too commanding. Later on in the series I came to understand her motivations more.
All of Moiraine's strengths come from how she breaks away from the Tower, and all of her greatest weaknesses are flaws the Tower instills in Aes Sedai.
Dude, it's super nice to have someone talking about WoT. I grow up reading the series in brazilian portuguese, starting with the first 2, than everytime a new book came in my language (they were not all translated, but they used to be released yearly), I would read it up again, I think re-read the series like 5 times, but stopped 'cos the seventh book just didn't get translated. Then, I was getting more confident with the english, found your channel, read Stormlight Archives and now I'm reading it all again, this time in english, but this thime with someone talking about it, it's much better! Anyways, thanks for the content, keep it up!
I'm a little bummed that Rand won't be meeting Elayne in Season 1, because that means they most likely won't have him run into Elaida either. One of my favorite things about her was the knowledge that she'd basically had Rand in the palm of her hand right at the beginning, and she let him walk away.
Got really excited to read along with you (I’ve only read the first three so far) and then you said your reading pace is one every two weeks and if you think I can read The Shadows Rising in a matter of two weeks you’re insane 😂
Yeah I've been planning to start the series in the next few months and I definitely would've joined now if it had been more like a book a month. But reading two of them in two weeks is definitely a no can do, considering it'd take a month for me to even order and receive the second book :'D
I started reading Eye of the World because of your channel and it has been my best decision in such a long time. Just finished book 1 and bought the first 6 so I’ll be back for the next book 👍🏻
I am on the 14th book right now at a chapter called “The L*st B****” and because is Huuuuuge I tried to take a break... Then Daniel make me emotional again!
What I do like about The Eye of the World is, that it gives you what you're expecting: It sets things up. Nowadays I think, there are to ways to get noticed as an author: Either you do things differently and subvert expectations or you're very good at genre. Gladly it's the latter, because sometimes it's good if stuff unfolds logically and you're getting what you're signed for- so to speak.
I think one of my favorite lines from RJ this whole series was at the end of one of the beginning chapters when Rand thinks “it is going to be the best Bel Tine ever!” Like as a first time reader you can’t help but think “yeah this is going to go horribly wrong.”
It is one of the best arcs even if it has one of Robert Jordan's greatest literary mistakes in it. The paragraph where a man gives Rand and Mat a ride in wagon and some rags to cover their faces from dust gets repeated nearly word for word a few chapters apart. Its funny to notice on rereads as it even uses the same 'small kindness' remarks about the situation.
What I really loved in those chapters when Mat and Rand were separeted from the others that their friendship, their love for each other could shine through. There aren't many similar moments in the series.
@@notchbeard9007 This is really confusing because Rand is having serious channeling sickness, but I believe those two passages actually signpost the start and end of a chapters-long flashback. The second is meant to signal, "Ok, we're back here now."
I did put the book down several times while attempting to get through the Prologue. Luckily, my friend who had read the book already encouraged me to "power through" and I thank him so much for that!
If you flex on how many wheel of time editions you have, I feel temped to send you the edition translated in my language. 🤣🤣🤣 Every translation is a different edition, right
I was in Barnes and Nobles when they handed me a promotional Eye of the World first 6 chapters book free at check out. I bought the first 3 books already published and spent all the years following waiting for each volume to come out. So good to see the following Robert Jordan has garnered.
My recommendation is to audiobook while you are working, and have it at a much faster rate than the 1x speed you start with. As fast as you can comfortably keep up with, and perhaps a notch or two slower just to be sure. I ended up finishing the entire 14 book series in about the span of a month my first go round. But then again, I have a work schedule, and more specifically, job duties that allowed me to take the most advantage of it for like 6 to 8 hours every day. And then when I got drawn into the plot... Well, a lot of time out of work too :)
I read through Winter's Heart back in High School and decided to finish once the series was done. I never got around to it and this channel along with the impending series has put the bug in me to finally finish the series. I started The Eye of the World earlier this week and can't wait to read along.
Dude! I decided to start reading WoT last month, I'm in the 3rd book now. What a nice coincidence you starting those videos now, I'll read them with you :D
I actually thought the beginning was a GREAT hook, and I was very disappointed by the DRAG the next 200 pages(ish) were. It was such a decline in quality that the rest of the book never got close to hitting until the end, which was, of course, amazing
I'm still on my first read through WoT, and I just started Memory of Light. I've been reading this series for about 4,5 years, I read quite slow. The beatiful thing is that I feel like I know these characters for years, I remember when I was when I read about for instance Rands fight with Rhavin or Dumai Wells. Part of the fun is watching Daniels recap-videos when I forgot some of the stuff from previous books. I guess I'll have finished MoL when the live-action series releases, can't wait! Thank you for your video's Daniel, you're a beautiful man.
The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again. In one Age, called the Third Age by some, an Age yet to come, an Age long past, a wind rose above the UA-cam channel named Daniel Greene. The wind was not the beginning. There are neither beginnings nor endings to the Wheel of Time. But it was *a* beginning.
Can’t believe this was released within a couple months of me finishing my first read through....don’t think I can handle going through the whole thing again so soon 😂
It has begun!!!

I started reading the series because of this channel. I have a lot on my plate but I just started Shadow Rising a couple of days ago.
I have a copy of Eye of the World daniel doesnt own, now thats a flex
Love your stuff man editing is on point :D
Scrapped princes anime actually has a, yeah that scenario, modern past
Kubera webtoon that has good fantranslations, nice.
The show th 100 did actually such a scenario.i mean that an apocalypse lets , fun dark show, that get really good about carrying trauma and people screwing up and trying.
Pretty sure adventure time did it too.
This sets a strange chain of misinformation:
"And Rand's final showdown with the Forsaken that he has to deal with, feels like it shouldn't have gone the way it did. It's just like this rushed through. It does match the fact that the Forsaken are just incompetent, as a whole. But he manages to bumble, fumble his way into essentially taking out one of the most powerful people in known existence. Ehhh, that's not a good look."
This sets the contextual stage of the last fight at the Eye.
This part does not happen at the Eye:
"Though I do like that Moiraine, it fits her character very well, I love in this final showdown where like the Forsaken are there and Moiraine is like 'time to murder MFers' and just fwah!! Just goes in like, just kills one of them using some sketchy sh*t I wont get into because spoilers."
Moiraine slows Aginor, but is beaten.
That is a lot of cat hair.
But the questions is, "Why are you at Pip's desk?"
This guy gets it
Daniel: “They’re just kids! They’re like 18!”

"They marched longer than friends could hope and enemies could fear", one of my favorites lines ever. God I wish I could write like that.
It's very Tolkien, isn't it? The heroes were more than mere mortals through the strength of their determination and the drive of their honor.
It’s super well done. Like bravo Jordan. It’s just also my least favorite part of the book cause it hurts to read.
Bold of you to asume I will not read book 1 and 2 in the time it takes you to show off your “Eye of the world” editions
FINALLY SOME LOIAL APPRECIATION! HE CONSISTENTLY PUTS THE BIGGEST SMILE ON MY FACE
He is the best. I think Perrin is my favorite but not until later in the series.
Do those smiles split your face in two?
And Kramer’s voice for Loial was phenomenal!!
@@markmavel The Boom in his voice for Loial is Just mmm, * chef's Kiss *
Loial is such a giant nerd cuddly wholesome amazing tree boy. AND I FLIPPING LOVE HIM.
I think Mat and Rand homeless was one of the greatest arcs of all time actually. I absolutely loved it 🤫
I liked the parallel of Matt and Gollum. The dagger slowly corrupting him and making him suspicious of everyone. But I think Matt's situation is more relatable and I feel more saddened to see their friend fall to such evil.
The end of EOTW always reminded me of a pilot episode of a series where the creators didn't know if it was gonna be picked up so they sort of wrote an ending to it, but it wasn't REALLY supposed to be the ending
... just how it makes me feel. Still love it
Exactly that ending when compared to every other book seemed so encompassing and conclusive, though of course angling out and whipping those other plot threads/character ideas for your interest.
I am not sure what kind of deal he had with the publishers but this is certainly possible.
That's how the second and third book end too lol. Finally by the 4th it doesn't pretend the story is over.
THIS!!!
I'm more excited for Daniel watching it than I am for the show to come out. I can just picture him hugging a pillow and giddy with excitement as his girlfriend and cat both roll their eyes in the background.
Reaction video?
It depends. If it is nearly as good as I hope it is (ie, at least somewhat faithful to what I loved in the books), I might favor the TV show by a good stretch.
But if it somehow has not gotten executed anywhere near correctly, and it's bad, then I will still love sitting here, watching Daniel's savage weekly reviews on it :)
We can't lose no matter how this turns out :)
"Every two weeks, I will be doing a Friday review of another Wheel of Time book."
Me, taking a month to read each book:
Me too! I’m just banking on only needing to reread the first two books before season 1 drops.
Just double the speed at which you’re reading them and don’t take breaks. Ez.
Same here ^^'
I wanted to read the series in the original language but English is not my mother tongue.
Best first book ever written in my opinion. No other book has made me so intrigued by characters to the point that they feel like old friends.
The Way of Kings was perfection to me as a first book, but Eye of the World is definitely an incredible first book.
"Nyneve stalks off as if to walk through a stone wall and leave a large hole." God I love her
Picturing that is hilarious. Cartoon level human-snapped hole in a wall. 😂
@@LeahB31 it gets me every time
That's crazy that you got the voice actors of your favorite series, from your first read through to narrate your book!
I am listening to those voice actors and they are top tier. I can't imagine Wheel of Time not in their voices.
I've come back after finishing EotW! I was planning to pick up the series eventually, but I left this video pre-spoilers and dove straight into the audiobook and e-book! (Thank you so much for convincing me to do this, by the way, if you see this!!)
Being totally new to this series and having just read the first book, to me Moiraine seems like she's had an insane amount of responsibility thrust upon her (or maybe has seen the need for someone to accept this responsibility and stepped the feck up), but she's competent and badass and knew more or less what she was getting into, and now she's having to make decisions she doesn't want to have to make, and being yelled at by people who couldn't possibly understand.
I f*cking love Nynaeve. I really dont understand why everyone having hard time to love her, she is amazing. :(
Also, i still am reading first time and i love Moiraine.
I think it may come from many readers being young when first reading EotW, and Nynaeve being the more "parental" of the Eamonds Field 5. *tugs braid*
WHAT?!
*Angrily tugs my braid*
*HUFFS*
As someone who is only on book 2 she is by far the most annoying to me. I have assumed the whole time that she was written that way to allow for character growth.
'Homeless Rand & Mat' was my favourite section of the book. The ending confused the hell out of me though!
I only read Eye of the World so far so I have a lot to catch up on 😂 I really liked the prologue even the first time reading it. It really intrigued me.
Same here. The amazing prologue was what convinced me to push through the next 40 pages that I didn't really appreciate at the time.
I believe that voice at the end is Lews Therin. I think it forshadows when Lews Therin starts thinking through Rand and talking through him.
Did I just get spoiled?
@@tito420 Not really. 14 books to go, even if you do slightly get spoiled its lost in the sea of information.
0:30 "I was in a Barnes and Noble and I liked blue so that's how I started my Wheel of Time Journey" WHAT?!?!
Oh my god, this couldn’t be a coincidence. Just bought the audiobook on audible yesterday :)

I'm so happy your doing this! I started reading WOT during Uni this last year, flew through the first 2 books during Christmas break, but then had to stop when Uni started again because things got to busy! This now gives me the perfect incentive to start reading again and I already have a 2 book head start!
👀 this happened to me to..I’m hoping to binge them all during the summer holidays
Thats EXACTLY what i thoughtt!
@@gajbooks oh boy. You wont believe whats coming

Holy shit, literally brought eye of the world yesterday from Waterstones, coincidence, I THINK NOT!
If it's your first read, I hope you didn't watch this before reading it.
I would love to see Rosamund Pike narrate the story of Manetheren in a prologue-style sequence at some point in the series the way Cate Blanchett narrates the opening of Fellowship of the Ring.
Such timing! Finished the series a little over a year ago and I just finished EoTW yesterday for my first reread
I started the series in February (partly because of your constant praise) and I'm almost finished with A Memory of Light. I'm not ready to let it go yet. So until the show comes out I'll be watching every WOT video there is.
The Lews Therin chapter hooked me, esp the Michael Kramer reading. I was on an airplane just 👁👄👁
Boy on a farm probably would have lost me BUT it does get off to a fast start.
I loved that as well haha thought it was great between the both of them
Yeah i have a friend online who reccomended wot to me she herself is at book 11 and i constantly ramble chat about it when something stirs my mind, every single time i heard that i was just like *furious typing* awkward teens who suck at it, both of them! Lol
man you killing it, ive been doing a live readthrough on my twitch of the eye of the world, and im only averaging 2-3 viewers, and you got 1288 views in only 13 hours. amazing. you are a legend daniel greene. a real legend
@@LordMichaelRahl doesn't he appear in the Rhuidean visions on Shadow Rising?

Re: Talking Trollocs: Trollocs have their own language and accompanying runes. “Ba’alzamon” is a Trolloc word. Trolloc runes were etched in the Guiding stones in the Ways. They even speak in words Fain could understand when they were ordered to carry him from Emond’s Field to Taren Ferry. They talked about cooking him up for dinner.
Oohh WoT has been on my TBR list for soo long and I started it finally after hearing you go on and on about how this is the best fantasy series and I have to say I agree with you
What I loved about the book is how Jordan describes everything so well.. It's the setting and the details.. You feel like you are right there
He doesn't force the characters to be perfect. They are what they are. I loved the fact that rand and mat and Perrin are so resistant to leave the only place they've known forever. They do not want to go on an adventure. They are forced to leave their homes and are therefore stubborn and resistant to the person driving them to do so- Morraine
Ahhh Morraine..
She's on point lol
Idk why, but the opening immediatly clicked for me. And with immediatly i mean after reading it 2 times, but i could kinda tell what was going on and i loved the sheer epicness it conveys.
I understand why people say that but I kind of got it right away. I did know about a dragon existing and pretty much guessed that that was the whole "prophecied saviour" thing.
I love it when Daniel goes back and talks about his WoT roots!
That’s funny. I am rereading TEotW for the zillionth time right now. It’s just a cozy thing for me when I’m anxious.
*Me watching this video all the way through despite having no interest in the Wheel of Time, I just like listening to Daniel talk*
same except its basically every video of his as i started reading again with another massive series meaning i know nothing of literally any other book he talks about but still enjoy listening
Likewise
2 weeks a book?! Thats madness!
Mad-Nes? *THIS IS RANDLAND!*
Madness? No, just Lews Therin muttering.
Well... I mean... this may be too obvious to point out, but the vids aren't going anywhere. You can actually take as much time to read them as you want.
It is the Age of Madness mate. You just gotta Use that Saidin to get through this series.
Took me two days..
Can't say the last time a single video made me like, comment, and want to subscribe. However I have been subscribed since your original reviews man. Keep up the great work. Love your content!
I just recently started this series! Already on The Great Hunt!
It’s cause she’s the only one who has any idea what they’re doing 😂😂😂 in hindsight it’s so much clearer why she behaved the way she did.
All of Moiraine's strengths come from how she breaks away from the Tower, and all of her greatest weaknesses are flaws the Tower instills in Aes Sedai.
MoraineGOD - ElaidaZZZZZZ
She is my most favorite character of all time.
@@keith535 She's a f*ck*ng angel
This is such perfect timing Daniel! Just started reading the series (a quarter of away through The Great Hunt). Thanks my guy, keep it going.
I’m pretty sure I read it in like 3-4 days the first time?
Wow I'm listening to your WOT recap videos today and then you drop this! Beautiful
It took a long time before I actually realized what happened in the prolouge.
Me too, I had to re read it after finishing the book to understand
I started reading Eye of the World because of your channel and it has been my best decision in such a long time. Just finished book 1 and bought the first 6 so I’ll be back for the next book 👍🏻
I am on the 14th book right now at a chapter called “The L*st B****” and because is Huuuuuge I tried to take a break... Then Daniel make me emotional again!
Oh I actually loved the Homelessness with Mat and Rand. Like that helped them understand the great world beyond Two Rivers.
The cat hair got me, my Golden Retriever is a hair nightmare.
I think one of my favorite lines from RJ this whole series was at the end of one of the beginning chapters when Rand thinks “it is going to be the best Bel Tine ever!”
Like as a first time reader you can’t help but think “yeah this is going to go horribly wrong.”
that voice IS the creator. it comes back in a memory of light, telling Rand when the time is ripe to confront the Dark One.
wtf I love the Rand+Mat arc in Book 1!
Question. What are some really good high fantasy books with both religious/spiritual and psychological themes?
@@ANT96-x8d The Cosmere Universe by Brandon Sanderson.
About to finish book 2 but it's gonna be a lil difficult to keep up with the 2 week schedule😅
What makes you think I'm not already re-reading the series?
I'm never not in the middle of a reread. I may fall away for months or years, but I'm still mid-read of the series.
I literally just finished book 12 of my reread. This is only my second read of the series, and jeez I'm picking up so much more stuff this time around
Watched the show and then started reading. Just finished eye of the world and I'm happy to be able to finally watch this video.
I literally just started EotW today (love it). And this comes out? What a coinky-dink.
Ohh cool i just started the dragon reborn yesterday.
Great! I started it 3 days ago, I'm 40% in, actually really enjoying it 😁
Hope you didn't watch the video and spoil the whole thing.
@@thewal1ofsleep nope, dw
This was too obvious not to be done.
Oooh my copy of the Eye of the World arrived yesterday, the timing is awesome!!!
Can’t believe this was released within a couple months of me finishing my first read through....don’t think I can handle going through the whole thing again so soon 😂
Listen to the audiobooks, let Michael and Kate into your heart xD
You will appreciate it in a whole new way by listening. Also makes the slog easier.
man just shivered when you mentioned Moraine's speech. 'Weep for Manetheren.' F'ing amazing.
