Lapna Xerio It didn't help that it was the late 60's and 1970's. I bet they got ahold of some drugs in the making of the opening.

I love how every time the Doctor has a new companion the theme has different variations. David Tennant's theme for example has a different variation for each companion.

Imagine if the BBC erased all of David Tennant's episodes but left just a few like Voyage of the Damned, Human Nature, Blink, and the End of Time. That is how Patrick Troughton fans feel.
Now imagine if the BBC never intended to do more with the War Doctor other than his one appearance in Day and Name of the Doctor. That is how Paul McGann fans feel.
And finally, imagine if Peter Capaldi refused to step down and got sacked by the BBC! That is precisely how Colin Baker fans feel.

Both Colin and Sylvester got sacked. So many lost episodes never made. Two whole seasons. If the writing wasn’t terrible during their run then the show may have existed into the 90’s. The writers made Colin look like dick, and Sylvester look like just a clown. Thank goodness they had some really good diamond episodes in the ruff so They could at least be appreciated. The show finally got good again. Then BBC canceled them... well crap.

Then imagine if a doctor had a perfect sendoff episode only for the new showrunner to completely f*ck it up and not do a Christmas special

    1st Doctor - Yay first!
    2nd Doctor - Hey, that's my face.
3rd Doctor - Yes! We're in color now!
4th Doctor - New version of the theme!
5th Doctor - Aw man, I only got one version of my theme.
    6th Doctor - Mine's better!
7th Doctor - Check out this fancy 3D animation!
8th Doctor - I'm glad the composer didn't try to make a completely different theme for the movie.
    9th Doctor - We're back in business!
    10th Doctor - I got 5 intros!
11th Doctor - Oh NOW they decided to put my face back in the intro.

Every time I watch this video, I always get shivers with the Eccleston/Tennant intros, most likely because that's what I watched through High School. But something I notice with the development of Tennant's intro, is that he music gets more urgent, and towards the end, melancholic, and you can sense that time is nearly up for Tennant's Doctor.

As the Fourth Doctor wisely said: "What's the point in growing up if you can't act like a child?"
Well, Eleventh acted silly and childish and had fun whenever he could, but was serious and down-to-earth when necessary. And that makes him fantastic.

watsgoinonhere1 And both were terrific performances, all things considered. So have been all the Doctors, in my opinion; each has had his personality, his quirks, his flaws but at the end of the day, no matter who is the actor, one thing remains certain: The Doctor is, and will always be the Doctor. "Same software, different case."

I only just recently into Doctor Who, but my grandparents were huge fans, dating back to the very beginning. The one I do remeber, which I've always associated with the series the most, is the 1974 intro. Classic Tom Baker. Maybe it's childhood nostalgia, but even compared to the modern ones, it's still my favorite.

As far as new series openings go, yeah. They got better once there was more of a drive to it because that slower orchestral style from 2005 just wasn't very Doctor Who-ish. Of all of the new series openings I like Matt Smith's last series best. It was a great marriage of the classic series and new. Plus it's great to have the Doctor's face in the opening again. And I so hope we get to see Capaldi's wonderful scary eyes in the opening.

I love how the show has remained faithful as far as its intro. It's kept the same basic idea over the years and the same exact song, only executed differently each time. My favorite is the Christopher Eccleston intro because the song fucking intense but doesn't have that orchestrated feel. That paired with the visuals is enough to give me goosebumps every time. In that intro the Tardis really looks like it's being thrown about as it travels. Although I like the cool way the latest Matt Smith intro went.
The 1987-89 one kinda strayed from the concept a bit. I realize they were trying to experiment some and it was a cool change. But I don't see why they had to ruin it with that ugly title format. With the big ass glass lettering spelling "WHO" and the little squiggled "Doctor", the final insult being the episode title being split by a bold blue line. That was a late 80's thing that really bugged me. It wasn't attractive and it wasn't cool. Almost expecting to see the dic logo at the end....well other than those few seconds, the rest of this video was pretty fucking wizard!

    • @DataLal
      @DataLal 10 років тому +1

I agree Pasta Master, the 7th Doctor's intro wasn't very good - it tried too hard on the music and the then-nifty computer graphics, and didn't try nearly hard enough to come up with a decent design for the "Doctor Who" titles.

It's not the graphics. The computer animated nebula was a step it a pretty cool direction. It's the ugly titles that seemed to appear in a lot of shows back then. Doctor Who is a show that sets itself apart from other shows in a lot of ways. In fact it never even makes references to other shows. Everything is original. Well...at least there were no references until David Tenant. lol

I like the 80s ones a lot but my favorites are still the 2005-2007 ones and Smith's intros. I don't like the Tennant ones too much because I felt that they were too loud and it's like they thrown in every instrument they have in an orchestra and just made it play the Doctor Who theme. Smith's newer ones are a it too quiet though, but that's understandable considering how dark Eleven has been since he lost Amy and Rory. Then again, it's like they just hired a bunch of VFX artists to throw a bunch of paint on a wall then animate an intro with it and add the face to make sure people have a reason to like it. I should really stop stating opinions that I suddenly contradict at the last minute...

Don't start with series two or five, that's just silly. To actually have a grasp of what you're watching, you're better off watching season one (the 2005 reboot). It IS pretty cheesy but once you get through it, you get to watch Tennant in action. It's just common logic to watch season ONE first.

    • @commonrabble8559

I would advise viewing series one of the reboot (Not truly a reboot since it maintains continuity of the old series) then series two as it really starts to shine. Then, if you are enjoying it and get curious about the past, check out some classic serials with Tom Baker as The Doctor. Quaint effects, cheap sets and old school audio and video, but if you learn to love Doctor Who, you can appreciate the writing, and Bakers eccentric but endearing take on The Doctor.

Jon Pertwee is still my favorite Doctor, the Pertwee logo is still my favorite Doctor Who logo, but opening credit wise, I really love the opening from his last season where its using the "Slit-scan" process that became well known for the Tom Baker era. I like how Pertwee's face fades in, then for the first, and only time in a DW credits sequence the camera zooms out to a full body shot of the Doctor and he then proceeds to fly off backwards into the time vortex. Fun stuff!

Isnt it funny how when its their last season as the Doctor, they get the best intros? Same with Tom Baker, I loved when he got the 1980's star field title with the 1980's theme for his last season. Also for Colin Baker's last season, he got that amazing 1986 Doctor Who Theme by Dominic Glynn. And it seems the tradition continues with Matt Smith, in the last season, he got the best intro of the revived Doctor Who series because they finally brought back the tradition of having the Doctor's face in the title.

Even just watching the intro's makes you feel like you're going through every journey the doctor's been through.
