1:40 The decoration on knights helmets (that’s typically exaggerated in anime to look like hair) is called a “Plume.” Typically they were feathers and were used to distinguish knights of high stature in nobility or rank.
Later medieval-era knight plumes were made out of horse hair because feathers wouldn't last long enough. The original plumes were indeed feathers, but the longer ones like Igris's would have been horse hair

It's funny, how for us Manhwa readers, in Season 1 of Solo Leveling, the hypest part isn't the toughest battle of Sung Jin Woo, it's what comes after, i.e. ARISE.

Jinwoo was weak compared to Igris, but when he was on the throne, he used that opportunity to hold his sword (with his recent armour), he used all his strength to throw Igris sword away, stabe him in the eye with his ability "fatal strike" (which gives critical hit in weak spot) and pushed Igris against the wall, then he proceeded to use almost ALL of his mana with multiple "Fatal Strike" (cost 70 mana) + his passive ability of "Dagger proficiency" which gives him 33% all stats when using daggers, he got both of those abilities in episode 10 (last ep).
And also, Igris was holding back, it will be explained much more ahead at the end of the anime.
You can call that plot armour but I call that luck and right use of opportunity.
I mean Igris here was literally Elite Knight - Knight Commander Grade(Even Though almost all of his Powers was sealed)so he literally as strong as an S Rank(He was Still Holding and jinwoo said if he didn't get them armor he could have died in 1 punch).

At this point JSW was at least A Rank especially after his many level ups and equipment he picked up after fighting the pawn knights. He was mid tier B rank when he faced that association B ranker Kang Taekshik and had leveled up a decent amount of times to be somewhere around A Class as he was cruising past C Rank Dungeons effortlessly which would require high tier B Rank or A Rank power scaling to accomplish.
Just shows how powerful Igris was even at this time

A1 studios got it!! Animation is just tastyyyy!!! And ma boi Igris !! Such a great way to show its moves. They did it justice. Best animation award should be given to A1 ! Man that felt good!
Perfect. The only thing missing is the explanation on how he caught the sword with his hand. The gloves had an effect in which you don't take physical dmg if you catch/block with your hand or something similar.
This quest was specifically designed by system to determine Jinwoo's class. that's why knife, assassin, mage, archer everyone were fighting him and like you said why igris gives him time in between fight coz Igris was designed to test out Jinwoo's max limits. He would've killed SJW easily if he wanted but he was designed to push Jinwoo beyond his limits.

so spoiler alert but the quest is probably designed to "pretend" to determine his class, the outcome is likely preset to the class (or at least the class tree) he gets since it ties heavily into the story
Fun Fact:Reason why Sung Jin Woo didnt get hurt n caught Igris weapon on his right hand was cause the Hand armor he equipped has Effect:Prevent Hand Injuries,but not the muscles part where it blacken due to igris beating the shit out him

Igris is a tank, so he's basically Jin Woo's natural predator, but i love how Jin makes use of his class' strength, which is to aim for weak spots to deal the most damage

👉👉👉Here is a info that the fans miss or forget .....after finally defeating Igris the Blood Red Commander, Jin Woo is judged on his performance in his Job Change Quest that this entire dungeon was centered around, and even if something weird didn’t happen he would have gotten a good class, but because of an interesting circumstance where Jin Woo actually forgot to do his daily quests that day, he was actually sent to the Penalty Dungeon for a full 24 hours, where he was able to use items, refresh himself and even buy a few weapons that came in handy during the battle. The good thing is, this time that Jin Woo spent inside of the penalty dungeon also counted towards the time that he spent inside of the Job Change Quest, and given that he’s handed extra points and a better job for every minute he stayed inside, it’s no surprise that when it’s time for Sung Jin Woo to unlock his first job, he’s given the highest grade ......i wont say what class he choose 😅 wait for the next episode and the the legendary ARISE scene

easily 9/10 episode, the only thing holding me back to give it higher is because I cant fck with the pacing.. it's a bit off but the rest are great..
I’d only complain about pacing if they rushed it or omitted few things (which they haven’t anything meaningful). Idc if its a bit slow at times or if they add additional details that were not in the manhwa.
I think the only problem in this ep are some weak frames and when the fight cuts to show secundary characters

I’m really confused by this fight. Igris appears as enemy during this quest given by the system. In previous episodes, it becomes clear that the system wants jinwoo to live. If that’s the case, why did the system have jinwoo fight an enemy so much more strong than him? Jinwoo could have died in mere seconds, and frankly shouldn’t have won this fight. Am I missing something? Could jinwoo had have left at anytime?

I hope the word used in place of the English word ARISE be good because it doesn't feel like justice if he said okiro or some other thing

for me fate fights were probably the best fights I've seen(amongst the shows I watched) but I'm not gonna lie, this fight was on the level of 3d heaven's feel movie fights. at least I enjoyed it on that level. if what I've heard is true this show may dethrone fate from the top of my best fights in anime list.

I didn't realize it the first time I watched this episode, but watching your reaction made me realize there is an animation error in this episode. With the helmet showing -20% Physical Damage when you first see its buffs, but when he equipped it it only showed -15% Physical Damage, and even the subtitles say -15%. So the initial 20% is either an animation error, or I am missing something completely.
The 'hair' on a helmet? I believe that is called a 'tassel'
