Thank you very much for this series on the Schaublin, it's been great and you have given me the confidence I need to move ahead with my plans. It seems that nothing is too hard if you maintain a positive attitude and keep moving forward. You are an inspiration in this regard. You also inspired me to buy a couple of those pressurised bottles - I grabbed the original Milwalkee Sure-Shot brand and I'm really please with them. I have a couple of questions, if you have the time to answer them, I'd be very grateful. What year do you think your 51 was built? This mill seems quite unique - Is there another mill of similar size, performance and quality to the Schaublin 51, or is it really one-of-a-kind? (many mills of this era seem to lack the high-speed spindle, for instance) What are you using in the Shure-Shot when you do your final de-greasing process, before applying sealant? (I'm guessing isopropyl, but I'd love to know for sure) Thanks again and keep up the good work.
My Schaublin was built 1955. This milling machine was the first of the Schaublin 5x series. There has been three models, 51, 52 and 53 the 51 being the smallest of them all. They all share the same type of construction. They grow in capacity as the numer grows 53 being the biggest. There is a veryy good article of these in: www.lathes.co.uk/schaublinmiller/page3.html The stuff in my sure-shot is the ordinary brake cleaner, Braklleen by CRC.
If I understand the oil recommendation correctly then it states that viscosity should not pas Viscosité Engler à 50°C. Therefore I believe you should use something like ISO-VG 46. See this link: www.igol.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/tds-sonigliss-32-46-68-100-150-220-2017-06-06-fr-nv.pdf
