*"I love these 2 kids and I want to see them get away."*
- Bless that man. I NEVER get emotional over movies, but I tear up every time seeing Clarence and Alabama happy
Tony Scott will be missed.😢
I’ve wanted their relationship my entire life. Just rewatched this a couple days ago. One of my favorites of all time
At the end of the day Tarantino cares more about the film than his ego.
That's what makes him great.
I think if your a writer you feel that way naturally don't u?
To see Patricia Arquette in this film and then see her in _Boardwalk Empire_ is actually painful for your eyes. Yes, people get older and less attractive... but good God Almighty she is outright hideous these days!!
And btw does anyone know if Rosanna was also beaten with the ugly-stick in the last couple of decades? *I hope not.* 🤞🤞
He cares more about another filmmakers passion to the craft. And at the end of the day, Quentin has respect for tony. On a side note I’d love to hear tarantinos reaction to Gary oldman as Drexyl
eh he sees the character as himself so kind of ego patting to be satisfied with scott changing the ending because he loves ‘him’
The music makes that ending. It summarized their 'True Romance' tonally perfectly. It's the vibe they were scrapping to escape to.
And for Tarantino to admit that YOU made a better cinematic choice than HE did, you know it’s gotta be good.
It takes a big person to admit that and I think he loves movies more than he does being “right”.
To be fair he's a big Tony Scott fanboy, and it was a different vision (as it goes with the vision of the writer vs. vision of the director) that he could get behind.
I've always taken it to mean that Tarantino thinks Scott's ending is better in Scott's film. But if Tarantino had done the film himself he would have used his original ending.
What??
@@NiceHulkYeah some murderer dies and he thinks it's romantic. You notice it's romantic to him if it's a woman?
My favorite movie since 1993.
I’ve haven’t seen this movie, since 1984

What a film. What a score
yeah man, that little mermaid theme that popped up constantly was fantastic

Easily one of my favorite films of all time. Some of the best performances of powerhouse actors. Brad Pitt as Floyd, Gary Oldman as Drexl?!? Come on bro…
Brad Pitt isn't in it enough to really say he gave a great performance. Gary on the other hand absolutely killed it and stole the movie.
@@brandocalrissian3294 agree! There’s a lot of standout performances but Drexel Spivey?? Fkn amazing.
Now I know I’m pretty…….but I ain’t as pretty as a pair of tiddies
Oldman has played some of most terrifying movie villains ever on screen. True romance - Drexl
The fifth element - Zorg
Dracula - Count Dracula
And Leon' - Norman Stansfield 👏🏻
Also James "Tony Soprano" Gandolfini
I can listen to this song looped all day. It’s perfect.
Amazing soundtrack.
same here !!!
If you want a real treat, listen to Quentin's entire running commentary for this movie.
Best damn movie ever. True Romance is literally a perfect film.
I’ve never seen it and recently have been planning to. So glad to see so many people adore it.
No thanks, listening to Tarantino for more than ten minutes ends up sounding like a squeaking fart, on point about the film however.
Completely agree
One of the best movies of the 90’s!
Top 5 movie of all time
The mark of a true professional is willing to accept input from others and admitting (even if it's years later) that they were right.
Tragedy and chaos is too real.... I love a romantic happy ending 💕
Love the scene with Brad Pitt and the honey bear bong.

I came here looking for this comment. I am not disappointed
😎
The movie was perfect!
Perfect
This is from the DVD Special Feature screenwriter commentary of True Romance. I highly recommend it for Tarantino/ True Romance fans.
I could not hear enough of him explaining the background for this movie... the only time he pauses is just to stop & appreciate the Sicilian Walken/ Hopper scene. He said he hadn't seen it in a while and wanted to see it again.
Awesome... 😂
I love Tony Scott. Man was a cinematic genius. RIP 🙏
I always loved the ending when she says you’re so cool.
With that soundtrack, it would've been too heartbreaking. Best film romance ever.
“Why am I talking to you on a Sunday?”
Of all the movies Tarantino has written, this on is still in my top three of favorites. The other two being Pulp Fiction and Once Upon A Time In Hollywood.
One of my favorite movies since the 90s had to own it on VHS and everything ever since
True Romance is in my top 5 favorite movies of all time, I usually like the darker endings but Tony was right here and it was the perfect ending.
Saw this movie as an 11 year old back in 93 and instantly loved it. Till this day True Romance is one of my favorite movies
QT is awesome to say that, and I also agree with Tony's ending. The most depressing ending isn't always the best and seeing them make it felt right. Revenge was a different vibe; the whole point is both guys wanting to get revenge on each other and they lose it all in the end including the friendship that they once had.
❤love u Tony Scott, wherever you are
Rip Tony Scott
We miss you and your brilliant work. Gone far too soon.
Great movie, all star cast 👏
Tarantino's insight into film and storytelling is something I will never get tired of hearing
This movie was in my top 5 for YEARS....still is up in the 10.
everything about that film is sheer perfection. the ending just makes you want to watch it over and over again.
4 me True Romance is my number 2 movie all time
Please tell us your number 1&3
What's #1?
One of my favorite movies
Probably my favorite movie of all time ❤️
One of the best movies ever made 👌
"You're So Cool".
One of my greatest...period.....fucking bro ...dude....
Love this movie. Just watched it two weeks ago.
Amazing that as the writer it feels like his film
Tony’s reasons for having a happy ending are perfect. RIP
Other thing that was changed was that it's told in chronological order, which suits the movie better because I don't think the audience would get as good attachment to the characters if not starting from the who they are and how they meet and fall in love. Then the intense trajectory of them becoming an odd couple that kinda changes both and they have a huge problem which is the driving force to keep watching. Not doing it chronologically would have spoiled unneccesary things and I don't think helped with the pace.
Unchronological works much better with Tarantino when there is more characters in important roles than these two that are together most of the film. You can play with it in more meaningfull or cool way when there is many characters criss-crossing each other. True Romance is in the end about these two falling in love and being on a run, I don't want it to be shown kinda like Memento with the idea where audience thinks: "How do they get into this situation"? I don't think it would have been neccesary since the tension builds up thru the movie more and more as it is. It would have done the opposite of what it did in Memento or Irreversible kinda deal (even if not totally from back to the start) and deflate a lot of the tension in True Romances case. I think that was an another good call from Tony Scott.
Did not know this. If true, then Quinton must've been either working on pulp fiction or since it didn't happen in this movie he wrote pulp fiction so he could do it. Cause I think he was one of the first to write and direct a movie loke pulp fiction.
Also, did you know that he was a co writer on pulp fiction. Other dude never got too much credit. Other then the award they received for best screenplay. If u go back and watch the acceptance speech, Quinton talks alot longer then he was probably supposed to, which in turn gave other dude less time. I've always wondered if he did that on purpose to gather more fans and also downplay the other guy's contribution to the movie's script
@@waddeazy352 well Quentin has always liked to play with time in differend ways with his scripts, more in some than others. Reservoir Dogs already does it also. He says that it's more so because he writes in novel form. I don't think he per se invented it but studios always tought that it would be too confusing for viewer, he did prove that wrong.
Yeah I know. Roger Avary, he typed out True Romance with typewriter since Quentin writes by hand and the story goes that they both wrote a lot at the time and stuff got mixed up. Then in 90's Tarantino went into campain how Avery got essentially nothing to do with Pulp Fiction and it's most likely because he has encyclopedic knowledge of even very niche movies down to editors and he knows directors second movie defines them most. He wanted the indrusty see him as writer-director so he bashed Roger Avery. Kinda like he bashed Oliver Stone for doing few changes in Natural Born Killer's script to make a stamp about his scripts, but was silent when Tony Scott wanted to change his script and he didn't have Pulp Fiction out yet. So I think it was a lot of ruthless business moves to minimize Avary's contribution to Pulp Fiction's script. Btw, Roger Avary has a movie called Killing Zoe, it's worth a watch.
These days Quentin is ok with Oliver Stone and Roger Avary. It cannot be denied that Quentin does have an ego and is bad at sharing (like first giving the idea of Rick in Once Upon freaking out in the trailer and now have talked in one podcast how it was basically his idea)(there is countless examples). He just thinks Once Upon is his createst work so he doesn't have to be insecure about Pulp Fiction and Avary and also just have solid material in between from the three decades. I think him and Avery have a podcast now, haven't yet checked it out.
Tarantino sold theses scripts (Natural Born Killers as well) in order to gather a funding for reservoir dogs..
@@ppvk2610 yes he did but in the end he got two offers to fund Reservoir Dogs.
Love this movie
Let's not forget the casting director, whoever the hell it is. That's an amazing group of actors. Walken, Hopper, Arquette, Slater, Balki, Sizemore, Penn, Pitt, Soprano, Gary Fucking Oldman, Jackson, and all the other guys.
Tarantino knows when to listen, and he knows when to talk. Scott was a master of commercial cinema and he brought a stylistic, bombastic edge to Hollywood. A perfect match - don't trust anyone that is contrarian about it
R.I.P. Tony Scott
Brilliant film, ineed to watch it again!
My very favorite movie of all time
I hope he writes a massive autobiography one day.
He wrote a book actually, it's technically about film, but he's said it's pretty much an autobiography of sorts
So romantic
Love this film, precisely because of that fairy-tale feel. It stands apart from other romantic thrillers because of it
One of the most underrated movies of all time.
Such a brilliant film…
One of my fav movies of all time. I like the ending. I wanted them to have the money and get away the whole time. They were tough as hell too.
Revenge. What a magnificent film!
Amazing, and amazing movie.
Great movie!
I agree, Quentin.
Hans Zimmer music is incredibly diverse. He’s the goat
I’ve had the score to this movie as my ringtone for years.
I have to say Val Kilmer as Elvis was really surprising and giving me a lot of Tyler Durden vibes. I wonder since Brad Pitt is also in this movie if he took some of that influence. I thought it was Pitt as Elvis until the credits rolled.
I love True Romance, and that ending is absolutely perfect just the way it is
I've only ever seen the director's cut honestly 😅 Tony was right. Patricia and Christian are just so damn cute together and after watching all the hell they go through, they deserve their happy ending. After all, it's a movie. It's not real life and in movies, everyone loves a happy ending.
Quentin just gave away the ending but for those who've never seen 'Revenge' it's fucking heart breaking.
Most movies do end with the girl/guy dying. But the way this movie was shot it would’ve been almost a let down if that both didn’t survive and get away!! And have the happy ending!!! Perfecto!!!
This ending is great
Patricia Arquette What a peach
It really was a perfect ending.
Can't believe Quentin fell for that.
Agreed, this was Clarences story and it was a fairy tale. They both had to live.
The title of the video is misleading. He said it's better for the movie Tony made. But for the script Quentin wrote, he very well may prefer the original ending. The movie and the script it's based on are two different pieces of art.
I agree. This film needed a happy ending especially after how Clarence's dad gets it.
The thing I loved about this film, or at least one of the things, was how the protagonist's spirit guide Elvis....would only ever appear to him in bathrooms. I don't know if that was an intentional joke/reference to the urban legend that Elvis died on the toilet, but I remember noticing it and smiling to myself. I thought that was a funny detail.
I would have been pissed off if they hadn’t made it out. Glad Tarantino let tony do what he wanted. True Ronance is the perfect story.
You know I've never seen this film and I thought I had seen just about all of Tony Scott's films
Genius
Through the whole film, you have keen attention to detail to give this story a modern fairytale theme-- and to go back and then try to make the ending uber-realistic, would have been a betrayal of the story and the path of those two main characters.
This was the only way it could become the truly brilliant movie that it is and be that I still revisit is that it had THIS ending . If she does it’s be ‘what’s the point - the ending sucks’ and I would never have watched it again. Tony is da ma 💪🏽😊
Awesome film imo.
Was a great fuckin movie
Revenge another Tony Scott great movie.
Poor tony.
Respect
One of the best movies ever made first being apocalypse now.
Well, thanks for spoiling REVENGE for me, Quentin!
Tarantino made a lot of great movies but you can see that he has troubles writing a great ending (which is perhaps the hardest thing to do) especially in his early work
The only thing I remember about this movie is the Sicilian scene.
It really is a fairytale type of film too.
Like everybody else says it's a great movie and you need a good ending with such a violent movie
What a movie
Funny I never really believed the ending. I figured it was a happy ever after that never actually happened and was like what the characters wanted to happen.
As far as Quentin Tarantino goes I’ve always had respect for the fact that he had the balls to make his movies violent and he didn’t censor anything. He also made endings as realistic as possible instead of doing the “happy ending for everyone” thing. The sad thing is he’s gotten soft kind of the same way the Howard Stern was always politically incorrect and he didn’t care what people thought and his didn’t kiss a$$ was like that but now his movies have gotten kind of soft and woke and he doesn’t have the balls to treat every character in his movie as fair game like he did in “Pulp Fiction”… I like inglorious be a bastards, but I thought once upon a Time in Hollywood what is exactly what Quentin said he hated about filmmaking. “ cliché happy ending good guys versus bad guys” I like the old Hollywood aspect, but not Margot Robbie popping up with a bunch of day players playing Mama Cass, and other friends Sharon had just kind of dancing around, going to the playboy mansion. It didn’t feel like Sharon’s real life. It felt like a Hollywood BS version of her life with zero depth. But he rejects my hypothesis 😂
with Tony, it always saddens me that Tony took his own life and in such a scary way. It’s easy to romanticize his death saying “ he jumped off the same bridge that he filmed out in one of his movies” but the truth is just sad and shocking.
His one criticism, not enough feet
Best movie ever
Finally I agree with Quentin
I haven’t for a while now
🙄
I wanna see the other ending, where can i find it?!
This is a great example of how a director’s view of a movie can shape how the story should go. In Quinton directed it, his ending would have been better, but he didn’t direct it.
Great fcuking movie!
I’m fine with Tony’s ending. BUT…I still think it should have kept Quentin’s Non-Linear approach. Quentin’s description of how he intended the plot is MILLIONS of times better for the film. The film as is is great…but it slows down after the first act. Quentin’s would have saved it.
This movie is sooooo good and a lot of it does have to do with Tony Scott. You mess up the ending, the whole story isn't satisfying.
Never seen this movie, probably because of the title. Is it any good for someone that's really harsh on movies.
For instance, I like reservoir dogs, pulp fiction, Jackie brown, but hate the kill bills, hateful 8 and once upon a time in Hollywood.
Would it be up my alley?
Christopher Walken and Dennis Hopper scene. That’s all I need to say
Now the Moors.
Absolutely, and that move has so many great memorable moments .....hardcore survival moments, soft endearing moments , small funny moments...it was great
That scene was definitely good, but Alabama and Virgil was to me more relatable and had more impact and tension.
Alabama most certainly was a peach.
The Sicilians did that much fu….
This and the Clarence/Drexl scene are some of the best performances in any film in the history of Hollywood.
Everyone absolutely nailed their roles in every way. Masterful acting.
My favorite film of all time. I've probably seen it 30+ times. RIP Tony Scott.
gotta respect quentin for his loyalty to the film. he always stays true to what the film tells him.
Natural Born Killers is a different story however.
Well, Tarantinos issue was with all of Stones rewrites,I think so not the exact same thing.@@ThomasTHEONEANDONLY
