There comes a time when a bird has to leave its nest. A hatchling attached to its nest won’t develop into a fully-fledged bird, despite the inherent bird potential the hatchling holds within itself. For most of us, we have the luxury of choosing where to go or what we want to do for a living. The world is your oyster and the possibilities are endless. If you’re just starting out as a functioning member of the workforce, you can only go up from here. But where does that leave the rest of us? What if you were told that your entire world was going to change forever, leaving you with no choice but to abandon the place you call home?
Everything will blow over with the passage of time. The people, the city, the food, the taste of freedom become nothing more than a mush of distant memories. One must move on from the scars of the past in order to be able to reach emotional stability. But no matter where we are in the world, what stage of life we are at, Hong Kong will always be a part of you. There’s no escaping that. While pessimism wanders the minds of the young, we should celebrate our identity as Hong Kongers while we can. We’re all going down, but at the very least we should go down with our heads held up high, holding close to our hearts the moments we’ve shared with the people in this city. We’ve already run out of time, but with a little imagination, a little bit of hope, the past can still live within us and passed down to many more generations to come for as long as humanity is still around. This music video is dedicated to Hong Kongers as a reminder that home will always be with you.
