      To win the game when you’re a piece up you exchange pieces every chance you get and avoid exchanging pawns because they are potential queens which you need to checkmate the opponent’s king. When your extra piece is the only one left you use it with your king to capture your opponent’s pawns to make way for one of your pawns to reach the eighth rank and become a queen.

    As someone who knows next to nothing about Chess and only started watching UA-cams about it because of the Hans drama last year, I have to say I don't understand why his age would matter. I mean I'm more surprised they have 12 year old champions since the brain doesn't fully develop until the mid-20s and it's not like Chess is an athletic competition where it would be more shocking for a 64 year old to challenge guys in their 30s, but having said that it's funny because I'd think a 64 year old would do better to compete in any physical competition against someone in their 30s than a 12 year old competing against any adult or even older teenager, but Chess is the opposite I guess?

    • @woodahbase
      @woodahbase Рік тому

      @@woodahbase I just can't understand the point. I looked up after I wrote this and see they have grandmasters in the late 80s. My professors, doctors, financial advisors are in their late 60s and I'd trust them over a 12 year old in just about anything. Like I said I find it more crazy that 12 year olds can do well considering how emotionally unstable children are at that age etc.

    • @woodahbase
      @woodahbase Рік тому

      @@jvanek8512 When older GMs play talented kids, they usually try to get them into a winning but grinding endgame, where their experience and patience will give them an advantage. You’re right: a 12 year old may not have the attention span yet for something like that. On the other hand, kids today who love chess (or poker, for example) have the opportunity to play hundreds of games online every day if they want to, which can tool them up much faster than past generations. Anyway, I think experience and relationships matter in the case of your financial advisor, so a slight cognitive slowing won’t make a noticeable difference. In high-level chess, one minor brain fart can cost you the game.
