Synopsis:
Tư Nhỏ works as a cyclo driver in a poor working-class neighborhood in the town center. One evening, with no customers in sight, he abandons his cyclo out of boredom and watches a group of children hosting a cockfight in the park. Meanwhile, a robbery is taking place at the Minh Trang gold shop. The head robber, Lưu Tứ, and his accomplices are being chased by the police. Some are killed, others are wounded, but Lưu Tứ manages to escape with a bag full of gold. As the police continue their pursuit, Lưu Tứ, out of desperation and fear of being caught, hides the bag of gold in the seat compartment of Tư Nhỏ's cyclo, marked with license plate BL 38.
The robbery at the gold shop causes a great commotion and shakes the entire town due to the robbers' reckless and brutal nature.
Upon discovering the "heaven-sent" gold and learning about its origins, as well as witnessing the tragic circumstances of the gold shop owner's family-where the maid is shot dead by the robbers and the owner is severely injured, forcing him to sell the house-Tư Nhỏ experiences a deep internal conflict. Many times, he contemplates returning the fortune, but faced with poverty, the dire living conditions of his family, and especially his inability to overcome his greed, Tư Nhỏ secretly keeps the gold for himself.
From here, the lives of those involved in this story take entirely different turns. Tư Nhỏ becomes wealthy from the illicit fortune, but with such an unclear origin and an impure conscience, can he achieve legitimate wealth and live happily?
Lưu Tứ's gang, unable to trace the lost gold and feeling robbed, chooses a new path involving smuggling and drugs. How will these two opposing forces, who have never crossed paths before, eventually clash, and in what roles? How will they deal with their circumstances?
Meanwhile, the Minh Trang gold shop family, having lost everything, must find a way to continue their lives. Will they find happiness through hard work, perseverance, and unwavering hearts not corrupted by money?
