Dude! Great job! You made it fast and easy to learn. Thank you for one of the best lessons I've seen on UA-cam.Btw, killer vocal, you nailed it, sounded better than the Boxtops! Please send me a link to subscribe to your site.Deepest respect,Hooch
easy to follow, I can played & sing The Letter after watch This Guitar Lesson !! wonderful!! May I request from The Box Top another famous also 'Crying Like A Baby' Thanks so much
Very good job my brother! You look, talk, and the mannerisim(I hope I spelled it right), is exactly like a good buddy of mine. Hes great too at pickin' and a grinnin'
Your the best teacher i know watch alot of videos but yours are better and you can see your hands good and you have a bad ass voice thank you my friend
Yes with a blues style voice he was ask to use, never sang any better when he dropped it later with BIG STAR. Had a chip on his shoulder his whole life and even when he re-united a few times with other Box Tops would not sing in that ruff blues voice, his later versions of Box Tops songs were weak sounding.
Very nice...short, sweet, to the point...done deal. (I've agonized thru other tutorials that I refer to as 'chordie kindergarden' where they play 'this little piggy went to market' with e v v v v er y finger placement. 'Preeshate you giving viewers credit for knowing the chords!)
@macerockson YW Gotta admit...there are times when I think, if someone doesn't know basic chords, at least in a couple or three positions, they got no business even messin with this song (whatever it may be)...yet. Ya know?
Good stuff, though, you missed the end of the song that makes it really rare since it never has gotten to be finished. For some odd reason the chord sequence is changing and never gets to end the tune as on the original copy it fades out. To me that was the reason I had to learn it way back then coz I was wonderin' what that ending was all about! Great buzz, this song is.
The chords maybe right on the intro but your right hand is incorrect on the Rhythm and the bridge in the middle of the song is also the outro just saying otherwise great lesson thank you
just curious-what mode or modes is this song a fine example of? Also-ending riff is in a new key! -(Eric says Bobby Womack played the intro )ua-cam.com/video/ew6ccWr2ZR4/v-deo.html go to 5 min 10 secs for new key info.
I appreciate your concern about strumming. This was one of my earlier lessons from Free Guitar Mentor and it lacks in that department. My newer Song Mentor program does a much better job. sale.songmentor.com
It was a great lesson...if one cannot understand the strumming pattern by watching the man playing the song for so long he definately will never be able to play the song at all at this stage...maybe you should start from elsewhere rather than trying to master this song!
Great lesson! So many other great Alex Chilton songs that you never see on youtube. Thanks for doing a tutorial of this one. Would love to find a good lesson for September Gurls, done by Big Star and covered by the Bangles. Your vocal is too high on this, it's overpowering the guitar.
So--- this great song, that you are supposed to be doing (The Box tops version" I think you said, then spoil the whole thing, by trying to sing the Joe Cocker version, Come on mate, it has to be one or the other, it didn't fit,,,,,, just saying, and nobody has picked you up about it,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Great song, glad you brought it back to life.

And it was the #2 song of 1967. The #1 song was To Sir With Love by Lulu per the Billboard 100 for 1967.

Nice singing!
For some reason, I read "Guitormentor" and wondered for a second what Gui ever did to you :-p
I'm okay now, though. Excellent lesson, by the way.
Nice vocals too!
I had forgotten about that one. Thanks.. good vocals by the way ..
Many thanks Johnny!
Johnny Bumpous yy
You seems to be a good singer and guitar player !!! Hum hum !!!
Thanks! This bugged me for so long - so simple but I couldn't crack it on my own.
Glad you cracked it and I could help.
I realize I’m way late for the party but I’m trying to suss out the way you’re playing the “F” chord. Great voice by the way 👍
Is the strumming pattern down-up-down? Please help someone!
Nice tutorial, it sound amazing!
perfect...
Sung by the great Alex Chilton who would later front one of the greatest bands of all time, Big Star.
LOVE LOVE LOVE The RICKENBACKER!
Cool , 😊👌
@Albertthegreat2010 Maybe I'll give it a trim ...you are welcome.
At 3:00, the first time you play the opening phrase, you missed the B right before the a minor chord. The second time you played it you got it right.
Not the Box Tops' ending. They go to Db-Ab-Gb-Db-Ab for the outro.
Thanks
Forgot that one thanks.
Nice I like how you show the chords in letters on the screen. no pun intended. lol
Thank you.
Can someone please tell me the strumming patern? I can't work it outtt
@macerockson YW Gotta admit...there are times when I think, if someone doesn't know basic chords, at least in a couple or three positions, they got no business even messin with this song (whatever it may be)...yet. Ya know?
great lesson as usual with you. thanks
Hello great lesson is that you playing Layla ?
Clear m8 thanks...Voice fits.....LOL go on
You deserve to have a real Rick
Nice guitar & lesson. Great song. Minor pick: The Outro is wrong. It moves up 1/2 step to C# G# F# C# etc.
Need your help. Playing this with some guys. They are telling me that the intro lick is on the 1 and. I think it’s in the 1. Can you settle this?
RIP Alex Chilton

Thanks .... I will check that out.
i like naming the chords right up front!
The chords maybe right on the intro but your right hand is incorrect on the Rhythm and the bridge in the middle of the song is also the outro just saying otherwise great lesson thank you
Como se llama la canción de entrada?
Layla!
@@macerockson gracias
I really want that guitar now. My name is dillon 😢
Have a look on Ebay .... always a few although the Rics are rare!
just curious-what mode or modes is this song a fine example of? Also-ending riff is in a new key! -(Eric says Bobby Womack played the intro )ua-cam.com/video/ew6ccWr2ZR4/v-deo.html go to 5 min 10 secs for new key info.
Great job!
what's the name of the song in the intro?
Layla - Derek and The Dominoes
Great lesson but where's the strum pattern?
I appreciate your concern about strumming. This was one of my earlier lessons from Free Guitar Mentor and it lacks in that department. My newer Song Mentor program does a much better job. sale.songmentor.com

What do you mean in the US ,you makes it sound like they're an English band , they are from Memphis Tennessee
No don't! Your moustach is awesome
You missed the very important key change in the outro.
Appreciate that detail. Wanted to teach the basic song not the catchy fade out.
BTO DID A COVER, SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT.
Thanks Johnny. I wasn't aware of that so I had a listen. There's is based around the Joe Cocker version.
it would help to name the key-first thing
I don't often mention key .... you're right. Not sure how helpful with 3 chorders though.
Nice work,,,,,,low E is out of tune a bit )
Start with a demo, then play.
Great lesson! So many other great Alex Chilton songs that you never see on youtube. Thanks for doing a tutorial of this one. Would love to find a good lesson for September Gurls, done by Big Star and covered by the Bangles. Your vocal is too high on this, it's overpowering the guitar.
Alex chilton sang the letter, but he did not write the song.
I think it should be a Dm not Major
No major is correct
Sorry, but it bugs me when they start breaking down the song without demonstrating how it goes!
The voice certainly doesn't match the face
less talkage, more playage....thanks though.
Thanks ...I thinkage!
