Great way to start a fire!🔥 I made this incense. It burned so fast & was popping pieces of hot coal here & there. Glad I found the pieces before they burned holes into my table & floor
Does the amount of scent matter? Or the size of the cone? I followed your instructions to the letter, but only a little bit of the oil. I then made them into cones, but they still die after a few minutes. Plus i made my own powderd charcoal by hand.
Hello! I read further down this thread that you, personally, were going to try to use activated charcoal for this formula. I'm wondering if you've tried it yet? Thank you!
Great and informative video! I have a question I was hoping you could help with - I've made some really good joss stick formulations using about 20% joss powder as the wood binder, a pinch of guar powder (to strengthen the sicks), and then botanicals, barks, sages, etc. It burns consistently and doesn't go out - but my problem is, my sticks give off a LOT of smoke. Will sprinkling in like 10-15% charcoal (along with the joss) help reduce some of the smoke? I'm not looking for completely smokeless, just looking to decrease the smoke by like 40%. Any tips? Your channel is the best, thank you for being so helpful and thorough!!!
The charcoal would likely help reduce the smoke, but I would also look at your ingredients to make certain everything is 100% dry. Water in your ingredients, especially resins, will create more smoke. Let me know how your experiments work out. Thank you for watching!
@@IncenseDragon I tried adding activated charcoal to my mixture at around 5% ratio and it cut the smoke by about a 25%. Going to play around with adding a 10% and a 15% ratio and see what happens. Thanks for the tips!
Thank you for this wonderful recipe😊😊 I made these and really liked them.... Also, this is one of the most watched episode on my channel... Thank you so much😊😊 🙏
Hi, and thanks for all your videos. I have a question, I tried that recipe : 2 Tbsp charcoal (mine is activated),1 Tbsp cinnamon, 1/4 tsp xanthan gum, 1 1/3 Tbsp water. The problem is that I can't burn my cones... just try again this afternoon without the xanthan gum, I'll see in a few days... Have you an idea what my cones don't burn? thanks, Lu.
Yes, to both questions, however, the two are used very differently. You can use the charcoal in incense blends, but you wouldn't want to use ash that way. The ash can be sifted and then used to fill your censer.
I didn't see powdered incense on your web site (9 pm EDT), but I love the idea! I have been using Japanese bamboo charcoal to avoid the saltpetre and I like it a lot. Thanks for the info!!!
Is xanthan gum harmful to health? Xanthan gum is safe when up to 15 grams per day are taken. It can cause some side effects such as intestinal gas (flatulence) and bloating. People who are exposed to xanthan gum powder might experience flu-like symptoms, nose and throat irritation, and lung problems.11-Jun-2021
Any chance would you know how to make Paper Incense. (Trying to do deep research before I make any. Going for no scent and low smoke. One video I seen said to use salt peter. But trying to do my research to figure out what to use. Which brought me here.)
So these act like an incense version of pot pourri? I am right? So just place them around a room to create an aroma in a room? How long does the scent last? Tia
hi there! i tried this recipe and it's really easy to make! thanks very much! now this may be my EO blend but I found there was not much scent at all (I used 8 drops). Do you think I can double the amount of EO without compromising the burn factor.
You can do that. I would suggest that you add half the water to your dry mix, add the EO, and then continue adding water as needed. If you add that much oil at the end of the process, the dough might be very difficult to handle and shape. Good luck!!
I can't say. I haven't ever worked with activated charcoal, but I do have some on its way to me so I can experiment. You might try adding a bit more water and see if it improves, but my experience is that charcoal can be very sticky.
Hello! Thanks for your amazing channel! I try 2 times this recipe, I use tragacant- charcoal and 5 drops of ess oil... But it still not sticky... It's like the sand of the beach.. I can't make cones or sticks. Thanks!
I never have, but I don't see why not. The only real difference is that activated charcoal has had additional processing. I'd give it a shot. If you do, please let me know how well it works. Thanks!
I'm so glad I found this video. It worked perfectly. No smoke whatsoever. Thank you!
Hi! I am happy is working! I try to make 2 times but I make some mistake.. I mean it is like sand, I can't make the paste... Any suggests? Thanks!
You probably need more binder.

Yes, activated charcoal worked just fine. I couldn't see any difference with regular charcoal.

Do you light it like regular incense?
@@NF275 yes, I do 🙂... I light it in my kitchen, in my living room and in my washroom... 🙂 so there's only fragrance, no smoke 🙂

Try reducing the binder or increasing the amount of charcoal. Sounds like it's overbound.
I have a wood burning stove - can I use charcoal from that - or even the ash left over?
Yes, to both questions, however, the two are used very differently. You can use the charcoal in incense blends, but you wouldn't want to use ash that way. The ash can be sifted and then used to fill your censer.

Howdy! It's listed on the Supplies page. There isn't a pic of it yet, so it's a little tricky to spot.

I don't recommend eating incense, despite what some monks might tell you.

Yes, you use it just like any other incense.

What about powdered activated charcoal?
Works just fine.

hii. can you make smokeless charcoal with gum binder? if it works for incense, would it work if i make a smokeless charcoal?
You definitely can.
Does the charcoal have to be specifically either mineral or vegetable, or are both choices viable?
I'm not aware of mineral charcoal. Perhaps you mean coal? I don't think you would want to use coal. The charcoal I use is made from wood or bramble.
Thank you so much!
What would the recipe look like if using an herb powder instead of essential oil? I want to try using my homegrown marjoram. Thanks!
I primarily use powdered herbs rather than oil. It works wonderfully, but it won't be smokeless.
Can I use a fragrance oil instead of an essential oil?
Is there an alternative substance instead of makko powder ,sir?
Yes, there are many. Joss powder is very similar but you can use makko mixes as well. You can also use gum binders.
What will be the ratio of the combined essential oils to the others?
Does this effectively turn the incense black?
It absolutely does.

@@IncenseDragon thanks very much! Will try this. I do find that I need more than 1 tbsp of water to get a pliable dough.

Why does my activated charcoal so sticky even before I put in any form of binder? A very small amount of water and it's veeery sticky and tar-like.

Even it is made from woods, using charcoal may be dangeraous for health? did you search about that? thx

Does anyone have experience with Bodha? Is that charcoal?
Which type of binder you used
xanthan gum.....find it in baking area. Bob's Red Mill sells it in stores, too.
I only used water and it held the shape well☺
