A fun fact of this musical is that every character has their own instrument associated with them. Odysseus is backed by electric guitar when he's being intense and acoustic when he's being softer. Try to keep an ear out when new characters are introduced. Also fun fact about the background vocals. If you hear them when a human is speaking they have to exist, they have to be coming from another human. However, when a god is speaking and you hear background vocals, the gods created those. They can literally summon background vocals at will to emphasize points lol. There is also a danger motif to listen out for, sorry for the spam but I love seeing people get into this musical because it is so intricate and beautiful. Can't wait to see what you think about the rest of Act 1!
Not just this but if you hear an insttrument thats attached to a certain character in a different song where they don't appear (ex Odysseus' instrument in a song Eurylochus sings despite never singing) it means they are watching/listening whether anyone notices or not, Keep an ear out you may find strangers listening in despite them never being addressed/noticed by the characters in a song
the way the maker of this animatic has him smile like that when he says polites just kills me bc not only does he sound it but he also just looks SO happy to see him
Lin Manuel Miranda is indeed one of Jorge's influences! Jorge cites Hamilton as one of the primary influences for his first musical ("My Heart Says Go" - the other influence he mentions for that musical is "Into The Woods"); and when he was in college, he played the lead in a production of "In The Heights", another musical of Lin Manuel Miranda's, and said in an article for that production that he's a fan of all of Miranda's work. Like Miranda, he's also from Puerto Rico, and that shared cultural influence may be part of what people are picking up on too! (The primary inspirations for EPIC are video games and anime, aiming to "emulate their addictive sense of progression" in the musical, but obviously he's drawing from a lot of different places musically here.) It's fortunate that you were warned to record the reaction to the Troy Saga in one go. I swear the end of each song just leaves the listener going "but wait! what happens next????" and you just *have* to listen to the next one. I can't imagine having to wait a week like I've seen some reactors do; that kind of self control is admirable. 😅 (...You might want to do the same with the next saga.)
Ah yes, the “were up, were off and away we go!” Is CONSTANTLY on my mind! Cant wait for the next one! Just saw Mortius and Caspers reaction, they mentioned you sent a text saying how great this is 😄
Jorge actually talks a lot about his writing process on social media (mostly tiktok, but youtube also). be careful of spoilers though, even after you catch up with the released part of the musical, there will be snippets of unreleased songs
Underrated song alert! This is the first real/explict mention of two BIG themes of the musical Eurylochus: I say we strike first/ lets raid the place Polites: maybe theyre share some food And Odysseus' fatal wishy-washy middle ground/lack of commitment to eithet view-point Anyways Eurylochus is the voice of the crew. They act as his instrument & typically echo his sentiments as a chorus
You picked up on the call and response of the crew, but fun Fact: as other commenters have written, every character has a musical instrument in the story that signifies their presence in the narrative (even when they are off screen), as well as indicating their emotional states - Odysseus' signature guitar either being acoustic or electric, depending upon when he's showing kindness and mercy vs when he's being ruthless. Eurylochus (the second in command), however, has the crew as his instrument. Being the second in command, he often represents 'the voice of the crew'. As such his words literally echo their thoughts and feeling and vice versa. Just something to hold in mind as the story progresses.
My favorite part was when Odysseus shouts from the crows nest “I am odysseus, you killed my father, prepare to die” and then jumps off into a pile of barrels and sprains his ankle. Fun times. Falling and breaking… you know that reminds me of something forgotten
Btw, that harmony you liked at the end was a complete accident. He was recording vocal melodies and trying to see which one fit. When unmuting the instrumental tracks he accidently unmuted everything and all the vocal melodies he recorded got stacked into that great harmony!
Open arms and warrior of the mind really interesting for there own reasons you get alot of info in W.O.T.M and open arms is just the last purly happy song without "to much tramua".
I was just thinking that @felixhenson9926 LOL BUT… hinting at spoilers for those ignorant innocent who lurk. Perhaps why @Aestheticgamer592 stated it the way they did.
@@J.D.onthego Exactly! When I started the musical I saw alot of spoilers across platforms so I want to allow others to have an uninterupted experiance.
If you listen to earlier drafts of epic you can hear some major lin Manuel Miranda inspiration, originally a lot more rap verses, there was even an entire cut song called ismarus that sounded like it was taken straight out of Hamilton. Jay did eventually find his own sound and there is a lot less rap now, only in select spots
2:00 Oh no... hints of what is to come! I assume at this point someone has pointed out that every named character has an instrument tied to them (I think it was ALL of them) and the Ody's (what we fans tend to call him because Odysseus is sort of long) is a guitar. Eurylochus is partially inspired by the video game character Cloud (Final Fantasy 7)... so ummm... his visual is sometimes disparate from others not really a spoiler just a heads up that he doesn't have greek themes in appearance in some animatics (cuz Jorge said he sees a guy with sparse armor and a big ass sword). Also I always love the interaction between Ody, Polites, and Eury... easy to see they're all "old friends". In Iliad I believe only Ody and Polites were old friends and Eury was "just" Ody's second in command during the war.
I want to dedicate a song for you, no I'm not hitting on you I'm way to old for that but I really think you will enjoy the vocals and music. The song is by R E O Speedwagon and the song is "Can't Fight This Feeling". Hope you enjoy the song as much as I do hearing your songs and reactions.
Girl, you need to put these out SOONER! I await your next reaction impatiently! That said, I personally love this song the most because it's the one that goes FULL Disney and the brat is incredible! Please record every Saga in one sitting! You'll be perpetually cliffhanging if you don't!
Jorge is my inspiration and role model in singing! 🥰 The way he sings both deep and high notes is so amazing and the control he has in it is astounding! I've watched Hamilton and Dear Evan Hansen, and they're really good, but in terms of songs and music Epic is the best-and Jorge is the best singer!
Watched your first 3 reactions. You interrupt too often, right in the middle of lyrics. And because of that you cant really focus fully on the narrative. Mostly on music. Kinda jarring to watch.
Lin-Manuel, Jorge and Armando (Eurylochus) are Puerto Rican. And Jorge and Armando met at the auditions for Hamilton in PR.
Oh damn, I had no idea Armando and Jorge auditioned for Hamilton
it's all connected
No way!
yeah i guess us boriquas are just made for musical theatre lol

"Something bad is gonna happen THERE'S A MINOR KEYYYY" Lmao this kind of stuff is what i love about musicals
Minor keys in a musical is like the mentor character in a novel dreaming about retirement, it does not lead to good things.
Odysseus always sound so happy speaking to Polites 😭
the way the maker of this animatic has him smile like that when he says polites just kills me bc not only does he sound it but he also just looks SO happy to see him

Lin and Jorge need to meet
I had no idea. Thank you for sharing.
I NEED THEM TO MEET EACH OTHER

Remeber nobody say anything about whats going to happen when "Nobody's" crew gets hungry

@@GleamDrawz oh yeah I remember that!
The beat of this song feels a lot like a stroke beat for rowers, didn't notice that before!
If no one else said it, when mortals have backing vocals, those are actual people, only gods have the power to craft voices from the air.
Jorge is actually a fan of Lin, he had a song called Man of the House which was scrapped that was basically similar to a hamilton exposition song.
Fun fact: almost every character has an instrument that they go with, but for Euryloches his “instrument” is the crew and chorus!
