Lyrics below: [Verse 1] I'm tired I can't believe that you will die So tired My eyes are closed, you said goodbye [Pre-Chorus] Why couldn't you leave me be? Why couldn't you leave it be? Why couldn't we leave it be? I watched you slowly slip away [Chorus] Why did you leave in the night? Played God so long Played God so long Played God for so long I never wanted to fight Played God so long Been gone for so long Why did you leave in the night? [Verse 2] You were tired Closed the door turned out the light So tired My eyes were closed you said goodnight [Pre-Chorus] Why couldn't you leave me be Why couldn't you leave it be Why couldn't we leave it be I watched you slowly slip away [Chorus] Why did you leave in the night? Played God for so long Played God so long Played God for so long I never wanted to fight Played God so long Been gone for so long Why did you leave in the night? Why did you leave in the night? Played God for so long Played God so long Played God for so long I never wanted to fight Played God so long Been gone for so long Why did you leave in the night?
Had a dream with this song playing in the background. I think it's because I went to sleep with this album on repeat. But i was with James in my dream hugging him. He was consoling me, I suppose, because I could relate to these lyrics. I rarely remember my dreams and the details. Sure there's more to it but I can't remember. But anyhow, since then this song has meant more to me and the lyrics really resonate with me more than ever. Best album yet!
Ha! Rather than that one, it reminded more me of Head Over Heels. I don't know, like the Tinderbox of a Heart, perhaps? But it's a great song nonetheless.
I truly understand both comparisons. Throw a little of the Cure in that mix, as well. tTS is unique, yet an amalgam, in ways, of the great music that pre-dates them. Lovely, only
Omg this is such heartbreaking song. I want to make a cover of this song, but I am far away from my ukulele and I can't find any instrumental version 😢😢😢😢😢
@@LeftenantMalachi that's irrelevant. there are tons of bands that have drummers yet on the studio records they use mostly drum machines or programmed drums. this song obviously feature a 80s style drum machine it's no question about it.

The bass is SOOOO good with this song.
Agreed, man, also that synthesizer pairs so well with the bass. Great underrated band.
So, so good. Bass and guitar tone together 100.
You can hear The Cure’s influence on this one and it is BEAUTIFUL!
Another great song by my favourite band - its a thumbs up from me guys! : ))

Interesting that James was saying the lyrics for this song came from a dream he had
madrugada e twilight sad
Amazing song. No dislikes as of the moment of me writing this comment.
Also, this sounds heavily inspired by The Cure.
I'm not sure if you realize, but this album is the result of Andy and James opening for the Cure last year. Robert left a huge impression on them.
@@mynameisnobody454 I saw Twilight Sad open for The Cure, it was amazing
Debuted in my weekly personal indie chart on January 20, 2019 edition :)
Superb song!
No copies of Cocteau Twins - Garlands album were hurt during the making of this track

what's the drum machine they are using? dmx? lynn drum? love the vintage drum machine sound
No drum machine, they have a drummer in the band.
