Definitely a highlight of this race, earlier that day, we were soaring this slope at the end of the valley, staying far in front, half bar or more to avoid being blown back, looking down and behind at spiky rocks and rough terrain where any collapse could end up, but still consistently going up and above the ridge, feeling it will work.
It ended up with an insane flight, and a beautiful glide over the cloud base in France, and in perfectly smooth air (until we hit the opposite valley wind down below). BUT hanging there, against this wind, I think each of us well understood that we were out of choice and will need to jump behind the ridge willingly or not, regardless what awaits there. Not a moment you appreciate normally. I remember looking at that beautiful, green plain down there and wondering if one can still land there safely...
