    I’m starting to teach jiu-jitsu. I’m a brown belt and I teach a few nights a week. It’s really hard work like you said. Can you make a video on like how to teach in a more encouraging and detailed way, and what I should focus on for beginners or maybe more advanced students. Thank you so much. I’m stressed out.

    In jobs I always believed training and training others made the routines stick better, so now I'm looking forward to taking on coaching not only to spread the bjj but also locking in those moves!

    Taught my first class last night and man I had to think of the techniques in quite a bit more detail then I usually would, as I walked around helping people alot of new things popped into my head about the technique which I had missed at first so I can definitely see how it would help you improve

    Another great Video. Thanks Professor Chewy. Just wanted to say that as well as whoever truely thinks teaching kids is underneath them or underneath any anyone is not a good person.

      BJJ JUDO it’s not hard as long as you don’t judge them by the yardstick of an adult.

    Thank you for this video. I've posted a couple times in your vids because I really love em. I'm 43 and have a month in bjj, I joined because my 14 year old son was having so much fun. I was in martial arts from mid teens to late 20's which includes 1st black tae kwon do, yellow belt in aikido and heavy training for 2 years in kick boxing. My goal is to teach one day and hope to finish life training bjj. I love what you say about teaching kids. I've head coached baseball and football the last ten years, tee ball on up and flag football on up all for my son and the younger ages is very tough but loved it. I will continue to sacrifice for it all. I get up every day at 225am, our tues and thurs classes are til 830pm. My professors thank me for the dedication, which I'm the one that is very thankful. Sorry so long but thank you for helping me with my journey!

    I agree with you 100% on the best way to start teaching is to teach the kids class. I started teaching kids (a different style) and at first it was challenging and then when I got more comfortable working with kids and learning how to manage a class, it became so fun and is one of my fondest memories. I still train but not teach as I have a family of my own and needed more income but I still occasionally have parents mention that I was their child's favorite instructor. In fact, one of my own students is now my daughter's instructor!

    Very well said Chewy. Keep doing what you do, love the videos. You’ve talked about seminars and training camps before, how do you choose the best ones to attend? I’ve been training for a bit over a year but I come from a very competitive background in national level gymnastics and diving and love trading jiujitsu now. I am now starting to think it might be fun to go to a tournament but it’s been a bit since I competed in anything I’m a little apprehensive especially since all of my experience competing was based solely on me not how a concurred my opponent. Sorry for the ramble but was just curious on your thoughts.

      I am not Chewy or a Black Belt/Coach like him BUT I have actually trained with a girl who came from a national level gymnastics background! I don't know how long ago that was for you but for her it was quite recent so she was still in very good shape when she started cardio wise and retained great balance and flexability. if this is also the case with you I imagine you are performing well in sparring class (rolling?)
      the biggest questions for me are, do you have confidence that if you are in a bad spot you will be willing to tap? and are you experienced a bit with rolling against larger people? womens divisions of grappling tournaments usually wind up getting kind of mashed together so you might be 110 and you are paired with a girl 160....or they may wind up finding a guy close to your size. it is fairly rare (unless it's a big event) to find a real deep division for the ladies. it's growing tho! so those would be my two big inquiries about if you were ready to compete yet, the other thing of course is you should talk to your coach. none of us can know you like your coach will! can I ask your age? you might actually know my teammate if you were both natl gymnasts at the same time

    • @tamara1880
      @tamara1880 6 років тому

      Big Member thanks for the advice! I am 38 so it’s definitely been a bit since I was in gymnastics but I have retained a lot of my flexibility, I have learned to tap more often due to that. I am hyper mobile so my joints are more flexible than the average person it’s both a blessing and a curse. I am the only female at my gym right now so I’m used to rolling with much bigger people in fact it’s tough when I roll against smaller people now.

      You'll feel like you have no idea what you're doing - just start by picking a couple of very basic moves (a guard pass, shrimp etc) and get really good at them!

    I actually can help a little bit with this! I have some friends from the UK and from what I have heard from them and others the UK market is not at all saturated with BJJ you can teach as a Purple Belt. in a few years who knows. plus that info is second hand based on what I have heard so.

    Chewy, I would like your opinion, what you think about keep food and little snacks under the gi, like granola or protein bars, so I can eat during the class, my friends think its weird.
