I bought organic sugar at wal mart. Not much more expensive than regular but comparable to Sugar in the Raw . I find it’s not affecting me like white sugar, am I wrong?. I prefer liquid honey but it’s way expensive and I can’t get it here in North Dakota in a creamed solid state in ice cream bucket size like I did in Saskatchewan. When I heard the stuff about Stevia and seeing how high priced it is I believe it’s a scam.
@thurgoodstubbs9670 HI use monk sugar or use fresh dates. I don't use white sugar, and honey will only be taken for colds or sore throats. You can train your tastebuds not to crave sugar, but it all starts in your mental state of thinking about your beautiful health.
My parents ate dessert every night and both lived to be 95. I think the difference is my mom baked and cooked so most of what they ate was homemade. They also kept busy and moved all day long.
About a year ago I completely eliminated sweetened drinks like soda. I drink 90% water. I also stopped eating chocolate bars. Had a really bad chocolate habit. Reduced sugar and complex carbs in other ways. Also increased animal protein. Reversed my pre-diabetes. My skin rashes cleared up. Prostate gland shrank a bit so I can pee more freely. I strongly encourage reducing sugar and complex carbs in your diet. You will not regret it.
@@omniamericana2172 Up to you, but for me, I had to go cold turkey. Kinda like an alcoholic is better abstaining totally than just having one little drink...
@@TheCushLifeK9 I told myself that a little dark chocolate was supposed to be good for me. But I loved it so much that I took it too far. Like an alcoholic, it was best for me to go cold turkey. And now I wonder which chocolate company founded all those studies that say it is good for you...?
My 82 year old Mum who has Parkinson’s went to a Dietician yesterday as her GP is concerned she is too thin. She eats well and tries to eat lots of fatty meat and high fat dairy. She has been trying to be more ketogenic as it helps with her cognition. Well the dietician says she wants her to add toast, grains, cakes, honey and biscuits to her daily intake. I asked how would a few kilos more on my Mums frame help her health wise. The dietician said extra padding will help Mums joints if she falls. I have seen obese people break bones with a fall so that doesn’t add up. Mum and I just nodded our heads, walked out and will not go back.
Good idea, don’t go back. That’s rediculous. Instead of suggesting weight gain maybe this doc should’ve been commending her and saying as long as she consumes enough calcium she looks great. They ALWAYS feel like they have to find something to recommend. Most are overweight!
Don't despair! It's true that all bets are off once your kids start going on playdates and to school, but that's true of many things that will influence them. I never wanted to nag our 2 kids so I fed them what I made at home and didn't stress about the rest. I cringed when they ate Pringles and gummi bears, but both are adults now and love to cook from scratch. Our son didn't brush properly when he had braces, despite warnings from the orthodontist and us, so his straight teeth aren't especially attractive, but that's on him now. I think they learn best from what we model and what they experience as natural consequences, not what we say. Just my 2 cents. 😊
@@TerriblePerfection thank you, thank you, thank you for this. I definitely fret too much. My parents did all they could to keep me away from processed foods as a kid only for me to go crazy on them my first two years of college. But then I learned my lesson as i became portly according to my brother. I don’t want to do the same to my children so your advice is deeply taken.
Between the tobacco company settlement in 1998 ("7 dwarfs"), to the sugar industry, oil industry and buying-off scientists for pollution, to The Sacklers - America has a sordid history when it comes to your health. Thanks Dr Dhand. 👌
In 2013, Pfizer was fined over 2 billion dollars for........."bribing doctor's and covering up adverse events" I wonder what they are doing now. Tobacco opioids and sugar are nothing compared to experimental mRNA gene therapy.😮
As an undergraduate I smoked 20 a day and continued the habit for nearly a decade, once I decided to give up I succeeded after three attempts within 5 weeks - it took me 5 months to give up sugar and it was much more difficult.
I am 55 years old and sugar and processed food free for 6 months. All I can say is that I feel as I did when I was 25. I feel that I confused the effects of long term sugar and processed food consumption with ageing. 'I'm just getting older and that's why I feel this way'. Not true. It was what I was eating.
I went to the hospital with my wife (she was having a test done) and I was waiting for her near the shop, and I noticed doctors, nurses, and hospital recognition all buying sodas, cookies, bread rolls, sugar snacks, quite a lot of these people where overweight ,some where do fat they where bursting out of there clothes, it is these so called qualified people we take health advice from, if they cannot manage there own health lifestyle habits what hope is there for ordinary people, unless they watch channels like this,
And then people who do care about health and nutrition are scared to say anything because people will just find it annoying or think "why should I listen to random person with no credentials" so they tune you out even if you back up what youre saying.
@@imannews5419And it hardly does any good to cite sources because there is so much misinformation out there on all sides because of monied interests, that people can always find studies that back up their predrawn conclusions.
Sugar is even in things you didn’t think it was including sausage, lunch meats, crackers, nut butters and all breads as you mentioned. I stopped eating anything with sugar added four months ago and feel so much better. And really honey is not much better because when you stop eating sugar even honey tastes way too sweet. The longer you don’t eat sugar, the more you are happy to have quit this addiction.
I used to be insanely addicted to sugar. My health had problems that I never associated with sugar use. Once I cut out sugar from my diet it took my body 4 months before the problems I'd been dealing with for years went away. I tried to eat sugar on special occasions, and I regret it every time. So I just decided to not bother with it.

I completely gave up sugar and processed foods 6 weeks ago and started eating a very low carb ketogenic diet. Although I’m only a little overweight I’ve lost 20 lbs. I have a ton more energy, I feel great, best decision ever.
So true, Dr. Dhand. I read where the average body weight for a female in the US is an astounding 175 lbs. When I attended high school in the 1970s, there were no FAT people to be found.
Where I'm from, the most obese province in Canada, it's rare to see a person who isn't very overweight at the very least, and most are obese clearly. Even the female high school students and younger kids too. The boys tend to get fatter a little later I've noticed, but still, about half the boys and teen males are very fat or obese too.
I have been saying to my grand kids when they eat the junk, "would you like a cigarette with that". They are horrified but I point out to them that more people die from eating sugar then smoking. Shock tactics to get the point across.
@@cincin4515really? both my parents died from throat cancer, get over it. You will find out the experimental mRNA gene therapy injections are much worse than sugar, smoking and fentanyl combined soon, you need to toughen up, buttercup, you ain't in Kansas anymore 😘🤷🤦
Hello Dr. Dhand, you are absolutely right! In Germany we have the same problems as in America, virtually all packaged and highly processed foods are pumped full of sugar in sometimes insane amounts. It is a crime that the industry does the same in children's food. Children can't think about this.
I was a bad type 2diabetic with a Hba1c of 12 my last Hba1c was 5.5 and off all medication. I gave up sugar and keep my carbs to 25 grams or less a day. I have lost 134lbs and off blood pressure medication. My aches and pains have virtually gone. My GP surgery are amazed that I am doing so well. I do get asked frequently how come I lost weight and look so well when I tell them to cut ultra processed food and go low carb they cannot do it. When you cut the carbs (I initially cut to 40grams) it is hard but the benefits are amazing. I had a strong motivation with extreme pain and an increasing catalogue of health issues and it does come down to motivation. Just focussing on losing weight is not a strong enough motive you need 2or 3 reasons. I have my own little saying I can't control what my body does with the food I eat but I can control what I put in my mouth.
Simple, I don't buy highly processed packaged ready/frozen made meals or snacks. Too many chemical words I don't know eg on sausages put it back. I love ice cream but rarely have it. Getting the real stuff is almost impossible.
Growing up we were eating home cooked sweets. But we were so so active as children, playing, running, biking, swimming, climbing trees and mountains so all of us had lean body mass. The situation then is so unlike today. Children or people in general have become couch potatoes and are hooked on social media. Not much physical activities.
It's the activity and being outside Sugar isn't like cigarettes Many who smoke, die in early 60s We used to ride bikes everywhere Even uphill, which is like HIIT exercises Doing those kind, takes your appetite..when hormones leptin kicks in
Veg oil is also very dangerous. Ancel Keys experiments showed replacing animal fat with veg oil increased death rate by 60+% but suppressed the data. Both are heck on the liver and kill mitochondria. Thankfully, fasting can quickly reverse this damage, quickly removing fat from the liver, which has become normal in people today! Some benefits of doing occasional extended fasting: High blood pressure is lowered to normal levels very quickly while fasting. Fibrosis/scarring is reversed over time, including in the heart and lungs. Vitamin D plasma levels are increased as fasting improves metabolic health, and vitamin D in turn increases autophagy. Fasting stimulates phagocytosis, the ingestion of bacteria, plaques and viruses by the immune system. It will also remove any 'foreign material' like spikes that are not supposed to be there. Whether natural or unnatural in origin.. Blood sugar and insulin are lowered when fasting, allowing white blood cells to move more freely throughout the body and do their job. Fasting increases nitric oxide release. Fasting restores NAD+ to healthy levels. Blood clotting is reduced and blood clots and arterial plaque are reabsorbed into the body. Fasts from 36-96 h increase metabolic rate due to norepinephrine release! Telomeres are lengthened and fasting also increases anti-aging Yamanaka factors. After 72 hours or more fasted, your body recycles up to 1/3 of all immune bodies, rejuvenating your entire immune system. This helps prevent the onset of new autoimmune conditions, which develop through a leaky gut and damaged immune system. Fasting can help with MS, Depression, BPD, Autism and seizures. Thymus is regenerated, which suppresses aging and renews the immune system. The thymus also plays a vital role in fighting cancer. Weight loss from daily caloric restriction has 1/4 to 1/3 of the weight lost as lean tissue while many studies show fat loss from 36 h fasts without losing any lean tissue! The obese will lose extra tissue like loose skin while fasting, but the skinny or frail will have increased growth hormone release than the obese, which helps to make more lean tissue and reduce frailness. When you move out of MTOR your body shuts down the building blocks of the cell required for viruses to replicate. What breaks a fast? Anything with protein or carbohydrates in it will break a fast. Most teas and herbs are OK. Most supplements and meds will either break ketosis directly or contain a filler that will. Many meds are dangerous to take while fasting. Does fasting lower testosterone? No, it raises it when the fast is broken by increasing lutenizing hormone. Fasting also increases insulin sensitivity, which helps with muscle building. Fasts of 36-96 will not affect short term female fertility or affect menstrual cycle. They also may increase long term fertility, especially in women with PCOS. Fasting reduces pain and anxiety by stimulating the endocannabinoid system in a similar way to CBD oil. One day of fasting can cut your leptin levels in half and gets your immune system working properly again! This reduces leptin resistance, which impairs immune function. Stomach acid is reduced over time while fasting and can allow for the healing of treatment resistant ulcers. Some patients may need continued acid reduction medication while fasting. Does the body preferentially prefer glucose as a fuel? No. Except for brief periods of very intense exercise, your body mainly burns fats in the form of free fatty acids. Your brain also prefers to burn ketones at a rate of around 2.5 to 1 when they are available in equal quantity to glucose. Fasting stimulates the AMPK complex and activates autophagy. Autophagy (literally self eating) will cause cells to recycle foreign matter such as viruses and kill cancerous and senescent cells Lowering insulin via fasting virtually eliminates chronic inflammation in the body. It increases mitochondrial function and repairs mitichondrial DNA, leading to improved ATP production and oxygen efficiency. Increased mitochondrial function also has the added benefit of increasing your metabolism, fighting infection and cancer prevention! Fasting releases BDNF and NGF in the blood which stimulates new nerve and brain cell growth. This can help a great deal with diseases like MS, peripheral neuropathy and Alzheimers. When not in ketosis, the brain can only burn carbohydrate, which produces a great deal of damaging ROS the brain has to deal with. Fasting also increases telomere length, negating some of the effects of aging at a cellular level. When you fast, this stimulates apoptosis in senescent or genetically damaged cells, destroying them. Senescent cells are responsible for many of the effects of aging and are a root cause of the development of cancer. A fasting mimicking diet for 3-5 days in a row also provides many of the same benefits as water fasting. FMD usually has 200-800 calories, under 18 g of protein and extremely low carbs. Exogenous ketones can aid with fasting, making it easier in healthy people and allowing some people with specific issues to fast in spite of them without worrying as much about hypoglycemia. They also help with dementia and many other issues even if you take them while not fasting! Glycine and trimethylglycine can also be useful supplements while fasting that won't break ketosis and have many benefits. Children, pregnant or nursing women should not fast for periods longer than 16 hours. People with pancreatic tumors or certain forms of hypoglycemia generally cannot fast at all. Type 1 diabetics can also fast but it is more complicated and should be approached with caution as it could lead to ketoacidosis. If you experience extreme symptoms of some kind, especially dizziness or tremors, then simply break the fast and seek advice. I have cut my sugar intake, I finally realized how toxic it is to me. I still have chocolate but try to only have 70%-90% dark chocolate...no Halloween candy. Other treats are only once in a while. I have noticed more these days that nobody wants to make dietary changes, they instead would rather take a pill or shot and keep eating garbage. 🤔
I have emphysema and it's very hard to breathe. But when I cut out nearly all sugar I found I could breathe better. Those with COPD might consider trying this.
I have experienced this too! After reducing sugar massively, I'm breathing better, sleeping better, have fewer allergies and clearer skin. It's amazing how much damage sugar does to our bodies.
This is going to sound against all logic, but i have stage 4 lung cancer and was recently diagnosed with COPD and nicotine actually helps to breathe easier. My doctor recommended the nicotine patches.
@@Acb-q6l Thank You so much, i hope Your doing well too. i am shocked i am still alive honestly. i have opted for no treatment and was recommended to go into Hospice, but i haven’t done that yet. i try to keep a positive attitude and take very, very short walks almost every day. Some days are harder than others. i have been battling pneumonia since January 2023. Lost a lung from necrosis. Just a nightmare. At one point, i couldn’t stand up or walk cause of the COPD. i spent about two months trying to walk and pick up objects like a gallon of milk, i was not able to lift. Again, i try to stay positive and pray all the time and give Thanks to God that i am still here. Hang in there my Friend.
Thank you. I have difficulty breathing after quitting a 48 year cigarette addiction 2 years ago. I will try the sugar free route. I do notice bloat & breathlessness when overeating carbs too
Thank you, Doc, for calling out these harmful substances! I watched the vid where you walked thru supermarkets pointing out the seed oils in everything. I only found ONE peanut butter in my nearest Krogers without it, paid 3x the market price and had to stir it when I got home, but MAN was it worth it. It's delicious and feels good to know I'm just eating peanuts.
the only problem being that peanut oil is not much better than canola or soy. Those big jars of organic peanut butter are hard to mix fully tho, I used to buy the regular sized ones when I ate peanut butter. Quit eating it when I quit bread.
If you have a food processor, it's really easy to make your own peanut butter. Just pop the nuts into the processor and Go! If you need to add a bit of oil, use palm or coconut oil. I normally add a bit of sea salt, as well.
So many people say it’s too expensive to eat healthy. I disagree . When you cut out the unhealthy snack foods and carbs and eat meats and greens and some fruits you eat less and save a bundle not buying junk food . We made the transition- it’s a fact.
Yes, I also agree. I think a lot of people are just lazy and would rather blame the cost as the reason why they order takeout every night. If you buy raw ingredients and cook them, it's pretty cheap actually.
Hello! Dr. Dhand! I totally agree with you! Going on 3 years, no surgar! I used to have it in my coffee. Your body will begin to heal and feel better. Thank you so much for this information. Love you Dr. Dhand! You are definitely a voice for truth! Enjoy your evening. God Bless You!
I just can't help but love and admire you more and more for your genuine heart to educate people. I read every label and try not to eat any sugar. Very sadly, I have personally found that if rat poison tasted good, most people (until standing on the brink of death) would shrug their shoulders, roll their eyes, and ignore you while they continued to chew or drink it. Few care or think twice UNTIL it is too late, and then suffering, they must live with painful regrets. Thanks Dr. For trying to sound the alarm! Everything you said is pure truth. I pray people hear it! (I say this having worked 7 yrs in Hospice, and 9 yrs as an EMT.) LIFE IS MUCH TOO SHORT AND PRECIOUS. Do everything you can to live healthy. That, you will NEVER regret.❤❤❤
@@drsuneeldhand I truly mean it. You are a beautiful human being. Much love & respect from across the pond ✌️❤️🙏 Sadly, most “sugar free” products here contain aspartame. Thankfully, my children prefer fresh products, lots of which I grow - the joy from watching my children eating strawberries we’ve picked & declaring “these are delicious, juicy, crispy & sooo tasty” makes my soul smile 🥰
I remember when doctors, nurses, and patients all smoked in the hospitals. Nurses smoked at the nurse's station while writing up charts, doctors as well, and patients smoked in their hospital beds (sometimes with 02 tanks at their bedside). It was in the mid-70's that some progress was made when the hospitals segregated patients to either smoking or non-smoking rooms, and employees had to smoke outside.
I knew it!!! Thank you for confirming my suspicions about sugar. I also think being fat is deadlier than smoking cigarettes as well. In fact, I suspect we will find out one day that being overweight is the absolute worst thing we can do to our bodies!
My mother had a stroke when she was 77 which left her paralyzed on her left side. She has gained 100 pounds in twelve years she now weighs close to 300 lbs. She gets no exercise at all and is now 90 years old. According to statistics she should be dead. The fact that she is still alive goes against everything we have been taught.
Bread, pasta, rice, oats and potatoes once consumed get turned to glucose, and will spike the insulin just like sugar will so you need to cut down on these as well. Don't snack between meals.
In my son's primary school, the school dinner includes a sugary pudding every day, which kids usually choose instead of fruit. When I discuss this with teachers or parents, they all think it's part of a healthy diet. This on top of the high sugar breakfast and snacks they get every day.
I absolutely agree. My aunt had cancer at 65 and gave up all sugar...ALL. She enjoyed a pleasant, happy old age playing bridge and died in her 90s. Many can say the same. I've had many smokers in my family and none ever had heart trouble or cancer. HOWEVER it can really harm you in a closed car or living room. The answer is open air and windows.
My in-laws are Swedish ancestry, sometimes every dish served at a dinner was both homemade and sweet, not counting dessert! It’s hard to find an unsweetened entrée at many asian restaurants. I grew up only having sweets on Sunday for dessert. Married for 40 years, it is extremely hard to resist the required (by skinny hubby) staples of cookies, candies, soda, sweetened cereals and chips. I am inspired to try again!
Unfortunately, all cultures have added sugar into the recipes that originally didn't have it. Asians such as the Chinese did not traditionally serve desserts but now from the current food influences and demands, everything is made sweeter. Now the SouthEast Asians have the highest rate of diabetes.
My wife who is a biochemist, myself cardiologist... she has told me there is so many chemical triggers in food today that is focused on the brain through sugar dependence. I see patients post op and it amazes me their addiction levels for things like diet cokes and other sodas.
Yes Dr, the sugar in everything in America is astonishing ! I always chuckle when I see the long lines around Dunkin Donuts especially when new drinks like the “Pumpkin Spice” comes out. Just google how much sugar is in that beauty 😂. I’ll save my money! Always check your labels for all foods, along with “added” sugars. Thank you Dr Dhand 🙏🍂🌻
Yep! Read it in 2014 along with Dr. Robert Lustig's lectures. Fructose is po!son. Fruit juice is not equal to the whole fruit and it has a lot to do with the fibre affecting fructose absorption.
Thank you so much Dr Dhand for your courage and your honesty! You are a lighthouse in the darkness. Same problem in France where we are overwhelmed by ultra-processed junk food... By the way, I am shocked that the Olympics organisation (Paris 2024) has once again accepted to be sponsored by Coca-Cola...
0:45 And American TV Shows used to have advertisements from cigarette companies like Kent, Marlboro, Cavalier, and Winston. Many episodes of the panel game show I've Got a Secret can't be rerun anymore for this reason.
There are many reasons I keep tuning in to your videos, Doc, and I am never disappointed that I do. I've been fighting for years a sugar addiction I never even knew I had until fairly recently. Having an addictive nature hasn't helped me in this conflict. Even though I eat well for the most part and rarely consume highly processed "foods", my cravings for sweets are usually and have been irresistible and insatiable. Your compelling candor and arguments against sugar have reinvigorated my motivation to quit the poison. Thanks for your inspiring content. I feel better every time I watch one of your programs.
WoW , remember those good old days when we went to the royal showgrounds in Victoria and we saw the man spinning pink candy floss onto sticks , pure sugar ! I had skin problems as a teenager called pimples and as I grew a bit older I decided to dump sugar altogether , now 50 years later I have not looked back , I hate sugar !
Sugar and nicotene have a lot in common, unhealthy, toxic, addictive. However, in one respect sugar is way worse-it is insiduous it is everywhere. People buy it and consume it without noticing. Nobody smokes a cigarette, still less a pipe unknowingly. If you smoke you choose to smoke. It is a conscious purchase, a conscious action. But with sugar, you may be taking it with the soup you drink, the crisps you eat. It is added and you dont think about it. In fact it costs more to have products with less sugar. For example chocolate and peanut butter with low sugar content is generally quite a lot more expensive than the same with a higher sugar content. Fun fact-when I had covid I found sugary things disgusting. Even now, my sugar tolerance is lower than it was before I had covid. Bizarre but true-so I actually benefitted from having covid.
Dr Dhand mentioned at the end, 50-60 years ago young kids consumed very limited amounts of sugar. Kids were so much active those days as well. Today the sugar intake is like 10 fold, plus tablet screens and phone screens consumes more of there sports and exercise time.
The thing about smoking, alcohol and drug consumption, everyone knows they are bad even if they chose to do it. Much of the available food is full of sugar, processed starches and seed oils but packaged as healthy. The health education is largely corporate led. It frustrates me that people are so poorly informed!
Doing everything I can! It is in everything from spaghetti sauce, ketchup, health food snacks etc. I work in public schools. So much sugar in breakfasts. The school offers Cinnamon Toast Crunch, sweetened yogart, bagels, lowfat milk, sweet breads and apple or orange and juices daily. That is breakfast. Once a week egg on bagel. Yikes!
Some heavy soda drinkers switched from regular sodas to sugar free thinking they are doing their health a favor. No...such thing. Artificial sugars are far worse. But that is also kept hush, hush...as there is a lot of money being made selling this stuff.
I often hear people say they can’t afford organic food. But if you give up all the ultra processed junk, and all the snacks, juices, and sodas then you can. Just eat meat and vegetables.
I stopped eating foods prepared with white sugar years ago, and if I now take a bite of something containing sugar, like commercial ice cream or a piece of candy, it tastes really gross; it leaves a cloying aftertaste which I for one hugely dislike. I don't have this reaction to traditional sweet food, such as a ripe pear or a dried fig. There is something very strange about refined sugar, the way it affects our sense of taste.
Thank yiu Dr , when i was at primary school our teacher smoked , had an ashtray on her desk. We were only allowed sweets on a Friday night , cream soda & ice-cream, coconut ice & fudge , it was a treat. We only drank water or a cup of tea on occasion.
So I just went through 2 years of withdrawal after packing up a 48 year cigarette addiction and it was the bloody sugar all along? Well at least my feet ain't blue anymore.
As ridiculous as it sounds, part of the problem with cigarettes in North America is the sugars left behind from the fast curing/drying process we use here... Iirc, Japan has or had similar smoking rates but lower rates of lung cancer and other associated ailments. Big difference was the slow curing they do to their tobacco where the sugars ferment to alcohol and evaporate.
A parent told me a story that when his offspring were younger, when his spouse was preparing the evening meal or lunch, the offsprings would insist on icecream. He made a suggestion that the offsprings might forget the icecream. "First we shall have the meal mum prepared and if you like, later on, you can have the icecream".If they forgot about the icecream, the parents can always say" We gave you a choice, The freezer is not locked." If the parents gave the icecream first, the offsprings will not eat anything else.
Famous fitness Guru JACK LALANNE said that once he gave up sugar he was able to get into the tremendously great shape he attained and held onto for the rest of his life!!!!!!!
There are studies that suggest seed oils are even more damaging than sugar. Populations consuming quite large amounts of sugar, but little seed oil, do better than others consuming large amounts of seed oils but less sugar.
If you could make a video about the beneficial effects of eliminating (or at least significantly curbing) sugar, both within the first few weeks and long term, I think many of your subscribers would very much appreciate it.
I was shocked at the grocery store the other day. I got some pork sausage directly from the butcher/meat department and one of the ingredients listed on the label (that taped the package) was sugar! Sugar in pork sausage??? Yes, if they put it in pork sausage, it's in EVERYTHING!
It’s never too late to change. At age 60 I lost 40lbs in 6 months by quitting beer soda cakes and biscuits. Now I eat fruit nuts and veg, I’ve got my libido back as well, and I ain’t gonnna die before I’m 70 😀
One of the main reasons “so many people (Americans)” consume processed foods and consume a lot of sugars is that they have no other options when it comes to calorie intake for health (especially in America). Would love to see you do a video with someone in economics comparing the statistics of health and income and how that directly correlates with health issues.
Agreed. I grew up with thrift shops and hand me downs, Dollar Tree holidays (one a piece, Secret Santa style for the family), and learning to compare EVERY purchase to the $.25 off brand mac n cheese boxes. ("You want a candy bar, how many dinners are you stealing from your younger sisters with that selfishness?") When having a soda is a special occasion and a social message of "Look, I fit in too, see, I'm having a Barq's that wasn't on sale!" there needs to be more than just a dietician side to the discussion. There's also the evolutionary role of feeling full, especially after a lifetime of going without. How do you fight that, or turn it into something productive, when having a full belly of lasagna or roast and potatoes means you don't have to worry about tomorrow?
I think most people are just lazy. It's really not that expensive to eat healthy if you buy raw ingredients and cook them into a meal. Maybe some at the lowest end of the income distribution have an issue with the cost, but a lot of people would just rather order doordash 2-3 times a day than spend an hour in the kitchen.
Carnivore Diet. Save money - get healthy. Eating lots of fatty meat makes you healthy. You get all the nutrition you need from meat and fat - The food of our ancestors.
I recently switched some of my soda for Ryl tea. They have a "sweet tea" flavor but it's monkfruit and a little stevia. It doesn't irritate me like other things marked plant based, no dyes or weird stuff and it's made me want less sugar. No weight loss yet, but a good switch! Thanks for your hard work.
I learnt long ago about sugar. I grew up in south Africa where they have huge sugar plantations and back in the 80s the advertising used to have a slogan. Sugar gives you go. I swallowed the hype. When I went to the army and out on patrol I'd take 2 kg of sugar. This was so stupid because I needed 20 litres of water to compensate. The local bush people who we had with us for tracking could go for a day on one litre of water and I was was still thirsty with 4 litres I only really realised this year's later with a lot of research
I remember coughing every day at work at a hospital because smoking was allowed; coworkers said, "doesn't bother me". Then, when all smoking was forbidden, the same coworkers said, "I was so glad when they stopped the smoking!". Oh, well. As for Sugar, it makes more money than cigarettes because it is VERY addictive and so they put it in everything. I just learned our table salt has SUGAR added!
You should see the sugar in Scottish tablet or fudge. World War 2 meant that sugar from India was near impossible, so Scottish kids used spearmint toothpaste like it was sweets. The variations in antibiotics and their side effects seems another worry for humans, if the cure is more detrimental than the cause, when a cheaper brand is given. How they affect the sexes differently. The 3rd world simply accepting antibiotics gratefully, but should they question sometimes?

What is considered as an acceptable amount? 2,3,5 cookies per day/1,2,3 tsp per day? Is there a standard guide to go by?
@@sleepinglioness5754maybe one cookie a week. One dessert a week. In terms of sugar in coffee or tea, maybe one spoon a day is ok.

As an ex type 2 diabetic I can say that no Doctor ever told me I could change my diet and not take meds. My only salvation was youtube videos.

My parents ate dessert every night and both lived to be 95. I think the difference is my mom baked and cooked so most of what they ate was homemade. They also kept busy and moved all day long.
Spot on. Keeping active is probably the best point. So many people sitting on ass all the time is contrary to having a body.
I don't think the problem is having dessert. The problem is Americans are consuming dessert-like foods and beverages all day long.
@@MichaelSaloExactly!!
Thanks...my sugar tanked on pancakes 2 weeks ago and scared me...sugar is in everything. I never want to feel that way again...

Good for you and your Mum! 👍
Don't let her fall. Biggest danger for the elderly.
Good idea, don’t go back. That’s rediculous. Instead of suggesting weight gain maybe this doc should’ve been commending her and saying as long as she consumes enough calcium she looks great. They ALWAYS feel like they have to find something to recommend. Most are overweight!
Vitamin d and K2 to direct calcium into the bone
aerobic water weight classes at a YMCA or other gym would help prevent falling much better than just gaining body fat.
This maddens me as a parent. My kids are constantly giving sugar products when they go to school. And then I’m the bad guy for taking it away.
Don't trust the government. Take your health into your own hands.
As an undergraduate I smoked 20 a day and continued the habit for nearly a decade, once I decided to give up I succeeded after three attempts within 5 weeks - it took me 5 months to give up sugar and it was much more difficult.
I believe you and it is difficult to give up sugar much more than smoking, when you don't have a strong support network.
I went to the hospital with my wife (she was having a test done) and I was waiting for her near the shop, and I noticed doctors, nurses, and hospital recognition all buying sodas, cookies, bread rolls, sugar snacks, quite a lot of these people where overweight ,some where do fat they where bursting out of there clothes, it is these so called qualified people we take health advice from, if they cannot manage there own health lifestyle habits what hope is there for ordinary people, unless they watch channels like this,
It's really bad, most of the nurses on my ward are overweight. The doctors and physios look healthy though.
Only local honey is good for allergies anyway
I used to be insanely addicted to sugar. My health had problems that I never associated with sugar use. Once I cut out sugar from my diet it took my body 4 months before the problems I'd been dealing with for years went away. I tried to eat sugar on special occasions, and I regret it every time. So I just decided to not bother with it.
Do you mind sharing what health problems sugar was causing?
Come back and share the problems, please. Super interested.

So true, Dr. Dhand. I read where the average body weight for a female in the US is an astounding 175 lbs. When I attended high school in the 1970s, there were no FAT people to be found.
Very true. Even in the 1980s and 1990s!
We ate a ton of sugar in the 70s, we moved and exercised and didn't eat those fake sugar substitutes

Ibid. There was actually a section of my high school where students were allowed to smoke cigarettes.

We shouldn't have to be secret agents to scrutinize every label. Criminal.
It's the activity and being outside
Sugar isn't like cigarettes
Many who smoke, die in early 60s
We used to ride bikes everywhere
Even uphill, which is like HIIT exercises
Doing those kind, takes your appetite..when hormones leptin kicks in
Veg oil is also very dangerous.
Autophagy (literally self eating) will cause cells to recycle foreign matter such as viruses and kill cancerous and senescent cells
Lowering insulin via fasting virtually eliminates chronic inflammation in the body.

Seed Oils and Sugars are in everything - They are evil and will kill you.
I believe that sugar is as addictive as cocaine. Since I gave it up, I lost 40lbs and my cravings for junk food have disappeared.
Try Carnivore diet.
Yeah thats my lovely Doc
Keep the peanut butter jar upside down.
Peanuts are high in oxalates. Many plants contain toxic compounds that are harmful. Thats their defense mechanism.
Agree !!! ❤
Hello! Dr. Dhand! I totally agree with you! Going on 3 years, no surgar! I used to have it in my coffee. Your body will begin to heal and feel better. Thank you so much for this information. Love you Dr. Dhand! You are definitely a voice for truth! Enjoy your evening. God Bless You!
I’ve been drinking pop for years!! How did you do it?? I’ve tried but the migraines are off the charts. Congrats on your success 👏💕
Thanks Christene for your comments and kind words. I’ll keep doing my best! Regards, Suneel Dhand
@@drsuneeldhand I truly mean it. Every word of truth you speak on your channel is why I quit health care after 26 years of watching younger and younger people die..now, I try with my writings to help the grieved survivors carry on without their loved ones. You are an absolute jewel. I pray for you every day to be effective in your attempts to save lives
Such a good point, sugar can take you down fast!
You are a beautiful human being. Much love & respect from across the pond ✌️❤️🙏
Sadly, most “sugar free” products here contain aspartame.
You’re absolutely right. Sugar is in everything that is not homemade.
I knew it!!! Thank you for confirming my suspicions about sugar. I also think being fat is deadlier than smoking cigarettes as well. In fact, I suspect we will find out one day that being overweight is the absolute worst thing we can do to our bodies!
Yes, it is a leading risk factor to cancer
My mother had a stroke when she was 77 which left her paralyzed on her left side. She has gained 100 pounds in twelve years she now weighs close to 300 lbs. She gets no exercise at all and is now 90 years old. According to statistics she should be dead. The fact that she is still alive goes against everything we have been taught.
Bread, pasta, rice, oats and potatoes once consumed get turned to glucose, and will spike the insulin just like sugar will so you need to cut down on these as well. Don't snack between meals.
It's everywhere, in everything, even in food it doesn't need to be in. And it's by design.
Very true, and a tragedy
In my son's primary school, the school dinner includes a sugary pudding every day, which kids usually choose instead of fruit. When I discuss this with teachers or parents, they all think it's part of a healthy diet. This on top of the high sugar breakfast and snacks they get every day.
Fruit is nearly as bad
Sweden is still terrible in putting sugar in almost everything. From bread to mayonaise to meat and everything in between... 😢
My wife who is a biochemist, myself cardiologist... she has told me there is so many chemical triggers in food today that is focused on the brain through sugar dependence. I see patients post op and it amazes me their addiction levels for things like diet cokes and other sodas.
Carnivore.
Cut out seed oils, sugars, carbs and processed products. Eat human food.
Diet cokes and sodas have a more addictive substance in them possibly
Both cause the hyperthalamous to produce dopamine. And there's an insulin response as well. Drink water.@@louisejoel
That hip outro music got be poppin n steppin.
Yes, I was shocked. 38 tea spoons! Should have a health warning on it.
@@believeingood 👌😂😂😂
Oh my word!
I can't believe it, that would put some down & out!
@@sandraking9650 ya think 😆
He is so correct. I stopped almost all sugar years ago and am glad I did.
Thanks for this! William Dufty's book, "Sugar Blues," changed my life in 1980.
Yep! Read it in 2014 along with Dr. Robert Lustig's lectures. Fructose is po!son. Fruit juice is not equal to the whole fruit and it has a lot to do with the fibre affecting fructose absorption.
Doctors and nurses still are smoking, you can see them outside hospital and clinics taking their smoke break.
doctors are not about health.. money is more important to them from what I have observed. they write scripts&Shoot up with their p,oisonedNeedle
Thank you so much Dr Dhand for your courage and your honesty! You are a lighthouse in the darkness. Same problem in France where we are overwhelmed by ultra-processed junk food...
By the way, I am shocked that the Olympics organisation (Paris 2024) has once again accepted to be sponsored by Coca-Cola...
after numerous similar examples I'm no longer shocked, money rules many areas of society
Quitting sugar is essential if your over 50. Your health is in serious jeopardy
Phillip Morris moved into processed food industry after they were shamed for promoting smoking.
They also add sugar to the filters.
Not whole sugar like raw honey. It is actually exceptionally good for you.
Sugar is generally the 1st or 2nd ingredient on most food labels.
It should only be for special occasions
Like birthday/anniversarues
Extremely thorough and now mygo to link to share with those who struggle with a sugar addiction
Yikes!
Thanks Dr Dhand, love your videos! ❤
What about the “fake sugar “ . I see this in very many products. …..and that makes me very sick.
I think you’re absolutely right!
We love you and repect you A LOT ❤WE DO APPRECIATE YOUR HUGE EFFORTS FOR PEOPLE ❤ THANK YOU SO MUCH👍👍
Great presentation and every word is true. We are running towards a cliff edge with this one.
Compromise ..... smoke sugar!
I believe high fructose corn syrup is the worst. No sodas! However, I do like high-quality ice cream now and then.
This is why I always check the ingredients to make sure my sweets are 100% refined cane sugar
That's only an American thing. The rest of the world is consuming regular cane sugar and have the same issues.
What's with the sterile echoing room? Did they finally "getcha" ?
Was just about to have dumplings with syrup ……. Couldn’t eat it ….. still nice thinking about it
Big pharmaceutical
Big food
Are the same people!
I found that stopping sugar consumption healed my sense of taste. This means there's no reason for added sugar anymore.
Taught in university biology that SUGAR IS WORSE THAN CRACK/COKE...hasn't changed eh!?!!3:09Pm9/27/2023
Excellent parenting. The blood sugar impact is also far lower if you consume sugar after fiber, protein and fat.
Interesting - links?
In many cases the seed oil is mixed with the sugar - cookies, cakes, etc. Double wammy.
I can’t quit. I smoked 30 years and ate sugar. I am changing my ways.
If you could make a video about the beneficial effects of eliminating (or at least significantly curbing) sugar, both within the first few weeks and long term, I think many of your subscribers would very much appreciate it.
It is right on point There is sugar nearly in everything. Thank you Dr Suneel Dhand 🙏❤️
I stopped drinking pop and juice years ago and dropped a few pounds. So much sugar in juice, don't be fooled into thinking it is healthy.
I spread the news to my friends and family. But it’s a hard sell. Like addition, they have to be ready
Thank you
I was shocked at the grocery store the other day. I got some pork sausage directly from the butcher/meat department and one of the ingredients listed on the label (that taped the package) was sugar! Sugar in pork sausage??? Yes, if they put it in pork sausage, it's in EVERYTHING!
Well, looks like I'm gonna die.
It’s never too late to change. At age 60 I lost 40lbs in 6 months by quitting beer soda cakes and biscuits. Now I eat fruit nuts and veg, I’ve got my libido back as well, and I ain’t gonnna die before I’m 70 😀
What a sweet man‼️‼️‼️‼️❤️❤️❤️❤️😂🤣. But it is the truth.
Maybe they are just lazy.
Excellent. Thank you.
Sure, all true but let’s not forget about the extremely harmful seed oils that are also everywhere in ultra processed foods.
He hasn’t forgotten them. He has videos about them also. This one is about sugar.
Once you give up sugar, you will not like it any more.
The local bush people who we had with us for tracking could go for a day on one litre of water and I was was still thirsty with 4 litres
I only really realised this year's later with a lot of research
sugar tututu, sugar tuttutu, sugar tututu, nature gives us energy, I looOove suuuugar
Do you remember that Hullets add from the 90's?

I remember coughing every day at work at a hospital because smoking was allowed; coworkers said, "doesn't bother me". Then, when all smoking was forbidden, the same coworkers said, "I was so glad when they stopped the smoking!". Oh, well. As for Sugar, it makes more money than cigarettes because it is VERY addictive and so they put it in everything. I just learned our table salt has SUGAR added!
Thanks Suneel, yes indeed, and even this warning is understated IMHO.
We agree with you totally.
Thank you.
Great video thank you so much for caring enough to be so honest Carol
You should see the sugar in Scottish tablet or fudge. World War 2 meant that sugar from India was near impossible, so Scottish kids used spearmint toothpaste like it was sweets.
The variations in antibiotics and their side effects seems another worry for humans, if the cure is more detrimental than the cause, when a cheaper brand is given. How they affect the sexes differently. The 3rd world simply accepting antibiotics gratefully, but should they question sometimes?
It’s more addicting…. At work and social gatherings, everyone offers you sweets..
I remember an oncologist with a portable ashtray in pocket as we rounded
