- Our dearest Scottie boo is growing so fast right before our eyes. Even as his mom and seeing him everyday, I am still at awe on how fast he picks things up. One day, he will have no clue what he is doing and the next, he perfects it like he has known it all his life. It’s quite spectacular to watch actually. A little surprise everyday.
Slater and I have always wanted Scott to grow up with confidence that he can do things by himself. We try our best to encourage independence, especially when it comes to everyday things. On top of me being with him at home all the time, he has 2 yayas. To be honest, we really didn’t plan on this. It’s a bit too much for our small family, and our small budget (lol). We decided to hire our second nanny when our relative no longer could. Because he always has someone looking after him, it was really important for us that he wouldn’t rely on them too much and that he was still capable of doing things by himself. We’ve adopted a sort of Montessori inspired approach to things where we put objects at his level so he can easily have access to them. We also made sure not to make a big deal about messy situations or mistakes he makes while he is discovering his own capabilities. So far, we love how this approach has turned out. Obviously, there is no “best way” to raise your child, but we really lucked out on this one! In case you have the same parenting philosophy as us, hope this can help you in any way 🙂

I admire how they're rearing their child. To think he's only one and a half yr old, he knows so many words already and can hold decent understandable convo. Precocious for his age. You can really see how actual conversations and activities make a child smarter, unlike the typical 'games' most parents today allow their child to play, ie. Via phones. Very fortunate also to have a huge house he can run around. Kudos.

You're both are great parents and very patient to Scottie, I like that you communicate a lot with him and he knows so much words for a 1 y.o he is so adorable eating the M&M's. hope your family will be better soon, even tho isolated the vibes at your house is good.

I have seen a Korean reality show where a mother teach a toddler how to do things by himself at young age. But still, I am amazed how mothers let them teach independence at young age, for some they always depend on their parents. Scottie is finally recovered and I'm blessed you are all safe there.

Just a note, refrain in saying "Good job". instead, state their works. You may say "Thank you scottie for sweeping the floor. Mommy is happy." Ask his feelings about his work, too.

@@silverfamdiaries Hi Mommy, in Montessori Philosophy, we discourage saying GOOD JOB because the child doesn't need validation of their work. Sometimes they might think I have to do GOOD because mommy will say I am good. We let them work because it is their freewill and independence to work. Instead we acknowledge their work "Ohh thank you for ____. Know you know how to help mommy to do the house work"

@@silverfamdiaries Thank you for introducing Montessori inspired lessons. You may do more readings about it. I have been teaching for 17yrs and I am currently taking my Montessori Certification. I am really amazed of the ways Maria Montessori principle works to the child.
