Great instructions Marty, love the mixed media, I love the water soluble graphite and charcoal. Gives us a lot of help cause it can be erased before wet. Thank you!😊
I live in Georgia…Love painting the bark of the pines here. Just HATE the pollen, and it’s about to bust wide open down here. Makes painting outdoors almost impossible. Thanks for the demo!
Many thanks. This was really helpful as I recently got some lovely Viarco water soluble graphite and water soluble soft carbon pencils and was unsure how to proceed. You've given me a lot of instruction and inspiration which I needed to use them in landscapes. I think they may now be very useful en plein air.
@@owingsart Hi Marty, I've just compared all my water soluble graphite pencils - 4 top end brands - and my Viarcos came out best. Smoothest, easiest lay down, best solubility and tonal range of wash. I am most impressed and have made 4 tree studies en route. Do try them.
You just reminded me, I have a spanky nice set of expensive Derwent graphite watercolour pencils. I never knew what to do with them so they live safely tucked away at the bottom of my art supplies box forgotten. Super subtle colours nature colours and stuff? Nice but, I don't tend to reach for subtle. I'm currently thinking I might? I like trees.
Wow, I didn't know you could get watercolour graphite, I use graphite alot, may have to invest in 1, really enjoyed your video and such great explanation 😊
BTW Marty, I just saw your interview with Lindsay and wanted you to know that while your reviews might get more clicks I at least LOVE your art adventures!! You are the reason I have started trying plein air painting!! Watching your motorcycle art trips are great, and although I'm in Ontario I hope to meet you during one sometime!! Keep it up, you do have fans and we really do notice when you don't post for a while!! We miss ya when you do!!
Wow! This means a ton to me Shannon. I really appreciate the kind support. Hoping to do more art adventuring this summer if I can get away from work for a few days. Love Ontario and Canadians. Since I spent a couple years in Montreal as a kid, I have a great affinity for Canadians. I know Quebec is different 😉 Loved meeting some awesome Awesome Canadians when we rode our bikes across the Canadian Shield. I like to tell people that I live in the other Canadian province, “Minnesota”, because we love hockey, saying we’re sorry and the great outdoors. All the best Shannon and thanks for making my day!!!
Aaaaahhh...so that's what to do with graphite pencils! I see them in my art supply place, but I've never known what to do with them. Lucky I've already got the paper and the water pens from another project! 😍
@@owingsart Yes. I received them. I like them, especially how dark they get when wet. They don't seem to move around as much as regular watercolor pencils when wet, but I think they will be good to work with.
Light and dark is something I have always struggled with but your demo was spot on. The sky/clouds tip was amazing as well. I feel like buying some pencils and paper now lol.x
I really enjoyed this video. I have a couple of these pencils and never quite knew what to do with them. Thank you.
Thank you for watching Lynne and for taking the time to leave a comment.
Thanks for this demo: very useful for a fellow Minnesotan!
You betcha!

Great video Marty. I have a small set of those FC pencils & look forward to trying out your exercise. Thanks from Vanessa 🙂

It's getting to be that time of year again. :-)
Eat honey 🍯.
It cured my irritated nose.
Thank you.
You're welcome!

Hi Marty. Very timely video for me. I just recently purchased a set of Graphite Aquerelle pencils and brush and was pondering how to use them. :)
Have you gotten your pencils yet Sally? If so, what do you think of them?

Lovely! You make it look effortless, I’m going to give it a try.
You can do it!
